im just setting up a new desk in one of my rooms and also planning to buy the mac mini.
since they switched away from intel chips, is having windows on it as well not as good as it used to be? i'd only use windows when i have to bring my work home with me which is once in a blue moon.

i havent had a desktop in ages. i've been using a 12" surface and 14" laptop for over a decade at home, so it should be quite nice. at work i use dual 24" monitors but i just want a more minimal setup at home.

Yes, Windows got worse because...

1) It can no longer bootcamp into windows, have to rely on virtualization
2) Runs ARM version of windows, need to make sure all ur apps support that OR run well enough on emulation

Personally, I use my M1 Pro on parallels; with 6 GPU/12G ram TEams will max it out. I only use Windows to use the work auth to remote into my work devbox/desktop PC

So far the full time Mac usage has been fine. I did an entire work day (it’s 1pm right now) with teams playing / excel and outlook running side by side. Seems to be pretty damn efficient.

No complaints other than I had to change the copy and paste command to simulate windows and disable some of apples lame ass innovation like natural scrolling which is a total abomination.

2 of the undercard fights were very good, making it mostly worthwhile to watch. I heard a lot of people had issues with the streaming, but it was mostly good for me. A couple hiccups throughout 4 hours was fine. My wife was watching Netflix in another room too, so we really tested it lol

He still has pretty good head movement and defense, but the legs are long gone, he can't/doesn't want to close the distance anymore.

Tyson is one of my favorite boxers, but he gave up on boxing a long time ago and stopped caring about any type of legacy. This whole thing was a big farce from the get go, I'm glad he made some money.

I have a 2024 Golf GTI for a few days and I really want to like it but man do these things have a lot of strange quirks that I'm not sure I could live with.

Yah you can customize all the gauges. I believe the left one can show coolant temps or gear indicator.

The right one can be adjusted for music

Center one can only show speed or boost…

It’s a bit gimmicky but you get used to it.

The overall driving experience is good. Just the shift from 1-2 is rubbery and not very engaging. But the chassis is stiff and well dampened and handling is fine. It’s the little shit that’s annoying and the overall build quality is shit vs vWs of old.

Given how popular these are I assume someone makes or is working on a way to hack into the screen to allow more customization. Mechanically I really like it, as you said the chassis feels great, the engine feels really nice and has plenty of power for my needs, even the auto trans is pretty good. But all the little UI stuff is annoying like the mushy buttons and everything living on the stupid touchscreen. The seat only having 1 of the 3 adjustments powered seemed like an interesting choice too.

aye its sad to say, but its probably the best relatively affordable hatch back that still has that old school hot hatch feel. Both the GR and CTR are wayyy too much money for the price. Closest would be the GR86. But it doesnt have the same suite of techno crap that the GTI has, and monthly it seems to be more money even on the base model. Heck, even the civic SI is more money per month and its wayy less dynamic than the GTI.

If i had to do it all again, id probably still pick the GTI and still pick it with a stick as anything past 2024 will be DSG only. The stick isnt great, but you can potentially make it a lot better with the various shift kits thats on the market.

You get used to the crappy UI. It automatically pairs to apple carplay or android auto and it makes the whole thing pretty easy for navigation. The only hiccup for me are the heated seats which you gotta press on the screen and its sometimes a bit laggy to respond. So you have to listen for the bops. Press the button, hear the bop, then you know its on. When you wanna turn it off, you gotta press it 3 times and listen for the bop each time as visually there is a bit of a lag.

Climate i just leave it on auto and forget it. Its set to 21'C and it sorts it out just fine.

I remain sorta surprised that the SI (and the Integra) don't come with the 252hp 2.0T engine - there's a big hole in the pricing line up right now between the current SI and the CTR (37k vs 55k) so there's gotta be some room in the middle, maybe closer to a loaded GTI (43k)? I hated the UI in my 2022 GLI, it's balls.

You'll also notice the weirdest gremlins when it comes to Apple Car Play, it's a daily adventure of whether or not it'll work properly, or if you'll need to reset the system completely.

I usually have to reset the entire car system (holding down the volume button) at least twice a week to get things working again.

My 2024 Mazda 3 Turbo AWD hasn't had a single UI issue in comparison.

Android Auto works about the same as everything else and I guess if you just leave everything in Auto and ignore the heated stuff and wheel controls you basically avoid the weird interface and the stupid noise it makes every time I change the volume lol.

The GRC is 50k starting for the base, add 10K for premium model for the nice goodies so 60K. Add 2.5K (iirc) for automatic. The Golf R is 50K (52K with DSG) fully loaded. So you save ~10K, plus you skip all the bullshit Toyota dealer games that they are still playing.

The GTI/Golf R has way more rear seat and trunk space than the GRC. I say that as someone who's had to ride in the back of both. The trunk space of the GTI/Golf hatches are unmatched now that Honda has done weird slopey things to the back of the Civic Type R.

The GRC has laughably little space for a hatch, which is true of the base Corolla hatch that it is based on, and even worse for the GRC since it has a high rear floor thanks to the location of the rear diff/driveshaft etc.

GRC and (last gen) Type R are a lot more track focused than the GTI. I wouldn't even put the GTI in the same class as the GRC/Type R. GTI is a daily that you could track. Type R (last gen) is a track car that you coulddaily.

Having driven Hobz' GTI.. the comfort is much much nicer. Everything is a lot softer and while the car is significantly slower, it's not made for speed. It's quick but it's not fast.

You're not losing your marbles, don't worry. The regular corolla hatch has a significantly larger amount of trunk space over the GRC. At one point, it was available with a manual transmission in a NA config which was fabulous. Great shifter feel, you could rev the piss out of it and not break the speed limit. My friend who's our track day photographer had one. It was able to carry all his equipment whereas the GRC is not. I didn't actually know how slow the car is until I drove it. He always seemed to keep up with the CTRs around town / hwy (eventually). Turns out he had to floor it in 1-2-3-4 to keep up when we're barely accelerating LOL.

The FK8 CTR has quite a bit of trunk space. I'm not sure about the FL5 CTR, but the DE5 ITS definitely had it's trunk shrunk and the opening is much smaller.

You're not losing your marbles, don't worry. The regular corolla hatch has a significantly larger amount of trunk space over the GRC.

I know the GRC loses a lot of trunk height over the base Corolla (you can get a lot back by taking the foam out) but I think this GTI is closer to the GRC side of things. I'll try to remember to snap a picture tomorrow but it's tighter than that shot you have.

I would like to try a manual base Corolla if I can ever find one to test drive. Not breaking the speed limit very easily is a plus for me lol. At least here in Cali the GTI picks up speed on the highway very easily. In auto mode I was accidentally picking up 20+mph without noticing.

They used to gate the heated steering wheel into the premium package before. Plus, the bigger screen (wtf 8 inch in this day and age Toyota), nicer sound system, dual zone climate etc are still within the premium package. Yes, the rest is cosmetic.

What you're looking at is a large traffic cone being dragged under that RDX. This was around Metrotown and there isn't any traffic cones within a few blocks of Metrotown so that driver has been dragging that cone under their car for many blocks.

I just looked we're at normal levels for EUR/CAD ~1.45ish. I've gone to Europe at 1.6 years ago and it sucked. 1.25 a couple years ago was awesome.

It’ll take 1.5 days of travel to reach Edmonton but I think that’s perfect amount of time to enjoy the sceneries in the Rockies.

When it costs $65 to send a paper back book Vancouver to Toronto and $5 to send a letter for a hydro bill to a senior, things will change. Whether that’s privatization or a complete overhaul of the system, I GUARANTEE you Canada post will look completely different than it does now in a decade. Even completely incompetent govts like we have in Canada will eventually realize there’s no value in this model.

I’m sure there are competent countries in this world that doesn’t require disabled seniors to sit next to their front door waiting for a physical cheque to arrive..

Just putting it out there. Don't believe everything your hear on the news about Canada Post's $3B loss. That was actually money they spent. CP built a brand new big sorting facility in Scarborough, hundreds of new EVs and implementing as new sorting and delivery system that doesn't work and is one of the key points the union is fighting against
