You can buy those single use pourovers; some good roasters will put out their own. Obviously this won't be the freshest, but by far the most convenient and best use of space if you're backpacking. Otherwise I'd go with a plastic V60 if space isn't that much of an issue

Instant it is!
Joking aside, I’ll need to do some research on single use since it’s not super popular here in the GTA, but I know some good instant coffees do exist from some roasters.
Another challenge I want to overcome is to avoid using disposable fuel canisters, but I’m afraid this may be the most convenient option outside of lugging around a refillable propane tank.

This is what they look like (https://coffeeroasters.com.hk/pages/drip-bags) (this is a pretty good roaster here)
If you can get Japanese groceries, UCC makes them as well, but then you have grocery store coffee (which IMO can be fine). Note that they are dosed for like 180g of water or less! You'll need to use two lol

Depends on how much you want to spend - a Jetboil with a wind guard is the lightest, best option, but a hotpot stove with a cardboard wind guard is way cheaper and works as well, using a butane cartridge that costs less.

I was looking at that, and there are some cost effective options from AliExpress that look exactly the same. I may consider one.

If you are camping for a track day, I feel like getting good rest is more important.
If by facilities, do you mean hotels etc? If yes, they do exist, and are typically 30 - 45 minutes away. One night will typically cost at least 200'ish, sometimes up to $375 to $450 depending on the season.
If you meant on-site facilities like an on-site hotel, CTMP is not that fancy, and the garages are leased by private companies or individuals (aka rich people) so access to them is limited, if nonexistent. You can't even charge your phone if you needed to, which is a big bummer for what they consider themselves a "world-class" track.
People who show up with an RV and require power plug-in pay the facility by the hour.
Track weekends with PCA UCR are always back-to-back Saturday and Sunday. I have my camp setup with an air mattress, so all that's left is the cooking part.

Funny you mention that - Wilwood (of all companies) once sold a trailer hitch for the Boxster. It was so well engineered, it was discontinued because they never had any failures or returns. Despite the Spec Boxster series, a lot of guys pay big money for this trailer hitch, but Wilwood said enough is enough, we're not making this anymore. One is up for sale from a guy I know in Montreal. I don't know how much more weight I can tow on a Boxster aside from a tire trailer. :suspicious:

28" computer gaming monitor

I can tell you that a hotpot stove + cardboard wind guard worked well at -15c in Cache Creek, made hot water for tea/coffee (I brought a hand grinder, an Aeropress & gooseneck kettle) and instant noodles. Biggest problem was the water in the gallon jugs freezing on me.

We always brought a hotpot stove, but it's really only good for solo or maybe two ppl use. Once you are outside the effectiveness drops significantly.
Costco has a coleman camping stove for 109.99 right now. Saw it in Richmond today, that would work better as it has a built deflector to prevent wind from blowing your heat away. And it'll be dual burner instead of single.
When I said facilities I mean more like food and hot water from say a cafe while you camp on site. It'll be a lot more efficient, mentally relaxing, and less cleanup required. If you are considering camping I already assumed hotel was more hassle than the convenience it provides.
When I was thinking about rest I was thinking more along the lines of rest. Again costco comes in. They have a 4in insulated single self-inflating foam mattress at the Richmond location today. $99.99. I'm using a 3/4" one from MEC and it's quite good already. We have a queen size 5" mattress that's similar the costco one and it's almost like sleeping in a regular bed. Well worth the investment.
EDIT: They have it online for $10 more (shipping)

Anyone have experience selling something in the USA?
Is it as simple as declaring it when I cross into the US, paying some fee and filling out a form and then the same thing again when I come back to Canada?
Someone from Seattle wants to buy some network gear off me, but is asking if I could meet them in Bellingham or Blaine. He cited visa issues, but it's probably to dodge the duties and taxes.
68style
04-07-2025, 06:07 AM
Unless you plan on hiding it and not telling the truth about why you’re going down, you have to use the commercial lane and pay a $10 fee to fill out a commercial declaration form and then they will decide if you pay duties and taxes on top.
Tell the buyer to fuck off lol…
RabidRat

I mean, it legitimately is a common occurrence that folks on work visas can't leave the US or they can't come back in, for whatever reason. E.g. on an TN temporary work status but applying for a green card which signals immigration-intent.
Still doesn't change the answer that yeah, fuck that guy though lol.

Yeah, was just curious what the process was.
I've been down to Point Roberts to mail some stuff as a return, but wasn't entirely sure since most resources I found online were regarding people selling a shit ton of stuff (e.g. 250 Chromebooks, lmao).
I was leaning towards not doing it myself since it'd be a hassle on my end. I think I'd probably get taxed/tariffed since the network gear is worth 1.5K. Not a huge amount, but not small either.

I'd look at it as 1000% not worth my time and would rather sell to anyone locally instead (even at a loss). The time and resources involved as well as the risk factors (hassle at border, potentially shady buyer, etc) are more than enough for me to completely ignore such a deal.

He sold network devices containing security encryption that was under sanction from the US gov't. I'll leave it there.

My dad passed away recently, and sister, mom and I had to deal with the arrangements. Fortunately, my dad was a boomer that liked good bargains and in '97, he bought plots for mom and himself when a family friend convinced him to get a plot while the price was low. He told his friends to buy too, but they didn't think the price would go up much for when they needed it.
Since this was all setup, it made arrangements a lot easier. I was expecting an all-day thing, but we were done in under 3 hours. During the process, my mom asked about what a current plot costs today. Dad had paid $2,000 per plot. Current plot prices are $22,000 each! My dad got his awesome deal even in death.
As we get older, we can't ignore the strong possibility that we'll die someday. Making sure everything is ready to receive your death will help with the stress of an already difficult time. My mom invited my wife and I to share their plots as the ones they purchased can be dug deeper to accommodate 2 coffins per plot.
I told them I'd take it.

Sorry for your loss man. 2024 was the first year in my life where my circle of friends (and their families) shrunk rather than grew - there were more deaths (all parents) than there were births and it was certainly a year where I thought more about the end than I did about the beginning. Just last week my aunt (who's only 5 years older than me) nearly died from an aortic dissection (the wall of her heart broke open) - 11 hours of surgery later she's alive and recovering (fortunately).
re: plots. My in-laws are shopping for plots right now and experiencing sticker shock for sure (my parents bought in the 90s).

No disrespect but it’s such a weird thing to pay a private company 10’s of thousands of dollars to bury your body like that’s some sort of virtuous way to go out. At least from a non-religious perspective.
We buried my wife’s grandma who was 97 this past summer at the cemetery behind Central Park in Burnaby and I was absolutely disgusted/appalled at the “extras” a funeral service could charge. Literally everything was an extra including the ability to play your own music at the wake after.
Then, when the funeral home was suppose to arrange this “all-inclusive” service, the fucking priest from the church the service was held at (the same church my wife’s family probably donated 10’s of thousands of dollars over their lifetime) called my wife and said he “didn’t receive his ‘tip’”
Everything about the experience was -terrible-

There's no shopping around for better deals once you're arranging things. You could easily spend 6-figures (excluding plot) on the service. We could hear that someone spent money on an operatic singer. He was belting out a tune for a service when we arrived for our appointment.
My dad is private person and the funeral is only going to be immediate family. Even minimally, it cost $10k. The majority of the cost was the casket ($2,700) and the transport which includes paul bearers ($5,000).

One of the things I took away from this movie is that death is not just about what the person who died wants. There is a grieving process for family and loved ones, the funeral is just as much about the dead guy as it is for the remaining family and friends who need a healthy way to grieve. Everything in Western culture is about me, me, and me ... what I want. In other cultures, the most important pronoun is us and the relationship between me and you.
There is one line that I remember:

Wait, which plot is your wife going to share, your moms or dads?
My recommendation is that your mom should share your dads plot, and when you make your dads headstone, leave a space for your mom on it, that way they can just add her name to the headstone. As far as I know, you're only allowed one headstone on each burial plot.
And you and your wife can take the other plot and use it for yourself.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/translink-funding-increases-1.7507285
TransLink and the B.C. government have announced a combination of tax increases, fare increases and new funding that will end the systemic deficit that has plagued Metro Vancouver's transit authority since the pandemic — at least for the next three years.
News releases issued by the government and TransLink outlined the details, which will have to be approved by the Mayors' Council and TransLink board on April 30.
The agreement includes:
A 0.5 per cent property tax increase across Metro Vancouver, adding approximately $20 to the median household;
A 5 cent increase in transit fares beginning in July 2026;
A $1.50 increase in the YVR AddFare for trips from Vancouver International Airport beginning in July 2026;
An increase in off-street parking taxes from 24 per cent to 29 per cent;
$312 million in operating income from the provincial government over the next three years.
According to TransLink, the deal will keep them fiscally sustainable until the end of 2027. It will also allow them to increase service on up to 50 bus routes, add 40 new or additional routes, and extend the North Short RapidBus to Metrotown by 2027.
I can't believe that all the hand wringing over maintaining transit services only comes out to this tiny amount of money per household. What would it take so we can increase transit service by 20% so we can get more cars off the road? Like $100 per household? Let's do that!

Kill the bird, fuck the natives, and stop pussyfooting around. That’s over 3000+ jobs and economic trickle effect is huge from a new port !!! Just look at what one port did to prince rupert.

What a waste those are 2 wetsound amps. They are worth over 2k new. But these models are designed for Malibu boats. They use custom conectors and use custom software to program the dsp in the amps. The conectors are hard to get and you can't get the software to program the amps. So unless you own a malibu boat that has the speakers but no amps these are useless. That's why they are selling for $100.

You can look up the entire 25% list here (https://www.canada.ca/en/department-finance/news/2025/03/list-of-products-from-the-united-states-subject-to-25-per-cent-tariffs-effective-march-13-2025.html). Japanese cars won't be on there, since they're made in Japan and not America. American cars aren't on there either as far as I can see, so you're double safe

Great show was following since before it came out, barely survived 2 seasons then got axed and due to a strong but small following came back from the dead for a season 3 before HBO booted it from Crave. Netflix picked it up and while it had a decent beginning it didn't get enough viewers to go for a 4th season.
For anyone who watched Banshee on Cinemax it's the same show runner. Good H2H combat and some decent Asian action names on the show, Joe Taslim Mark Dacascos (though small role), and Dustin Nguyen for you OGs who was born in the 80s like me. Don't take the plot, acting and such too serious just come for the action and a rare instance of an Asian dominated cast on a western platform.

Baking soda is good to pull out oil from the seat, but if it happened earlier it's probably solidifed by now.. probably blot/wipe off as much oil out as possible, then douse with warm water and dish soap, scrub, vacuum it out and repeat a few times.

Session 1: One car had a 2-off on 1st lap out and on 2nd lap out another car went 4 off. I smoked Ebisu cone. Almost lost it in two parts of the track twice LOL.
Session 2: 2 cars broke down, one at the end of a small straight away (before final complex), another on exit line of an uphill blind corner (left hander after ebisu) axle broke lol. I got black flagged 3x lol (oops didn't see it mb)
Session 4(?): I didn't go out for this, but per driver's meeting. Car spun after Ebisu and was stuck. Red flag ignored, cars kept racing by.
And then there's my car.. that drifts VIMC.. but it's fwd. Anyway, my day was done after the first session. I made a conscious decision from attempting more hot laps. This set up is genuinely the dumbest thing I've ever done. And it's a pretty long list. That said, the people that have the skill and balls to drive? The fast crazy people? They love my car. So by the time I got out to the car today, the meat juice had already seeped so far down it glitched out the seat occupancy sensor.
The i3 kept bonging at me, telling me the passenger needs to put their seatbelt on.
I skipped the steam cleaner for Round 1, and just went straight to town with soapy water and shop vac.
Minor win: the staining seems to be mostly gone, just some outlines left behind near the ends where I can totally get it next time.

CRA isnt showing up at anyones door. They are over swamped.
My tax guy told me that CRA decided to take it onto themselves to implement the cap gain/deem disposition changes, that were implemented last/this year, but never signed into law.
Then the new prime minister said they would cancel/ move the date into the future for those changes.
So anyone who fell under this category was essentially over taxed, and their tax dates are now moved to June or July instead of Apr 31.
https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/news/newsroom/tax-tips/tax-tips-2025/update-cra-administration-proposed-capital-gains-taxation-changes.html

Thoughts on oil changes for my situation?
I only insure and drive my 128i in the summer. The last oil change was in June last year, and I've insured it already this year. Since that last oil change, I've driven it only around 2000km, which is just a mix of city driving and weekend cruises on the sea to sky. No really hard driving like tracks or anything. It seems silly to change the oil after such little use, but it's also been almost a year. Should I just change it once a year simply for age? If I don't spend time on stuff like that I can instead use the time to maybe do my diff oil instead, which I don't know what the current state is.
Maybe I change it to avoid the bong bong bongs.

How could taking a flight be faster than the Shinkansen? You have to lug yourself to the airport, check-in 2 hours before, then find your way from the other airport etc. Total time wasted is 5 + hours. You can get from Tokyo to Osaka in 2.5 hours flat by Train.

How could taking a flight be faster than the Shinkansen? You have to lug yourself to the airport, check-in 2 hours before, then find your way from the other airport etc. Total time wasted is 5 + hours. You can get from Tokyo to Osaka in 2.5 hours flat by Train.
I thought the same thing! But domestic travel by plane in Japan was insanely efficient. Haneda airport wasn't that far from where we stayed and I definitely did not check-in 2 hrs before the flight... The flight was just 1 hr and cost about the same as taking the bullet train for the 4 of us.
I think your 2.5 hr estimate is optimistic... I stayed at Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku in Tokyo and Holiday Inn in Osaka Namba. Google maps says the journey would take 3.5 hrs by train.
Side note, my sister said her kids experienced motion sickness on the bullet train.
