Flat rate, and no pay if unrecoverable.

Yeah that's one of the top ~3 from Google.

Problem is I'm not sure if I need logical or physical recovery yet. If only the former, there are some places that's only $99-150. While with 1st Data Recovery, it's basically price of the latter / clean room recovery.

Anyone see a police chase in East Vancouver last night around 8pm?

Was driving home from dinner eastbound on 33rd past Knight Street and noticed there were several undercover Chargers in the area with some diving into side streets.

I live a block in from 33rd and Victoria, and right after I parked, and luckily before we had time to even open the car doors, a late-model white Mercedes coupe or sedan with passenger side damage darts around the corner and guns it down my block, with a undercover Charger on its tail. It turned right on Victoria Dr. heading northbound. A whole bunch of police cars with sirens blaring followed in that direction shortly after.

Too bad I didn't get home like 10 seconds later... otherwise I might have sat in the middle of our small street and blocked the getaway.

It's a small street, and only wide enough for one vehicle to pass with parked cars on both sides. So all I would have to do is sit my ass in the middle of the street. No need to turn the car sideways.

I've seen more than my fair share of World's Wildest Police Videos. Car chases that escalate to shots fired or a hostage situation is extremely low.

Okay, maybe not with the wife and kid in the car, but if it was just me in the SUV, I'd do it.

You should take it in and get them to look at it, or at least give them a call.

Also, take it from my experience, the longer you wait or try DIY remedies found online, the more you decrease your chances of getting anything back.

If it's worth enough to you to even consider recovery, get it done properly is my opinion.

I mean, you asked her out. I think it's common courtesy. Maybe on dates beyond the first, splitting the bill would be in the conversation. Vancouver driver found partly to blame for collision with cyclist who went through stop sign | Metro (http://metronews.ca/news/vancouver/1356370/vancouver-driver-found-partly-to-blame-for-collision-with-cyclist-who-went-through-stop-sign/)

A Vancouver driver has been found 35 percent to blame for an accident involving a cyclist who went through a stop sign.

The cyclist, Rachel Matkin, was not wearing reflective clothing, a helmet and did not have a light on her bike when it collided with the vehicle at 8:45 p.m., just as it was getting dark on Sept. 2, 2011.

Peter Hogg, who was driving a Volkswagen Jetta, started to make a left-hand turn at the intersection of Blanca and Drummond Drive in Vancouver when his vehicle hit Matkin, then 17, who came from behind and veered left to avoid running into the back of Hogg’s vehicle.

“Ms. Matkin’s conduct was careless and perhaps even reckless,” the judge found. “She should have noticed and obeyed the stop sign. She should have in any event slowed down and paid better attention to the Hogg vehicle once she saw it. She should have had an illuminated headlight on her bicycle and it would also have been prudent for her to wear reflective clothing. Had she done even just some of these steps she would have been seen by Mr. Hogg, she would not have entered the intersection beside him, and the accident would not have occurred.”

Matkin recalled she was coming down the hill and saw the car slowly pull onto the road in front of her and then stop. She felt if she jammed her brakes she would be thrown over the handlebars, so decided to veer left to avoid running into the car.

She claimed Hogg hit her front wheel as his car turned left, launching her into air and onto the ground. She said she never saw the stop sign because she was focused on trying to avoid hitting the car.

At the time, Matkin was riding home from Wreck Beach, where she admitted consuming a “few sips” of alcohol and a couple of “tokes” with a friend but denied she was impaired.

Hogg recalled the accident happened at “advanced dusk.” He had just finished going for a run and getting into his car. He could not remember whether he activated his left-hand turn signal at the stop sign before he began making a U-turn.

After the accident, he recalled getting out of his car, giving Matkin some water and making sure she was okay. Matkin had a cyclist friend with her. After a few minutes, Hogg asked her if it was okay for him to leave.

Matkin granted permission, adding “I am not going to sue you.” Hogg then went on his way, thinking the accident was the fault of Matkin, who later filed a civil lawsuit, claiming she suffered a brain injury.

B.C. Supreme Court Justice Nigel Kent recently ruled that Matkin was 65 per cent at fault for the accident and Hogg was 35 per cent to blame for being carelessness in not seeing Matkin in his mirrors before the collision and not activating his left-hand turn signal.

The judge noted that Hogg’s liability could be further reduced, because of Matkin’s failure to wear a helmet, when the trial moves into the second phase to determine damages for Matkin’s injuries.

Hogg is a Vancouver novelist and a criminal prosecutor who previously worked in Ottawa in the 1990s for the War Crimes Unit.

Coles note:
Impaired cyclist driving behind car. Car stopped at stop sign, then proceeded to make left turn (without signalling). Cyclist ran through stop sign, passed car on left. Car hits cyclists. Judge rule car 35% at fault

I wonder how different will the judgement be if the bike was a car rather than bike.

I know it seems stupid, but you are suppose to check your left mirror and shoulder check before taking a left turn just incase you might hit a cyclist.

You will get marked demerits on your drivers test and it says so in the ICBC book.

Is that recent?

At a controlled intersection with lights, yeah definitely shoulder check and look for speeding cyclists trying to beat the timer.

But at residential stop sign, that's crazy man.

I think the Judge does have a point though. The guy should have signaled, because any impaired person would see that signal and not pass.

Gotta love cyclists and their fucked up logic. If "bicycle" was replaced with "car", not only would the driver of the Jetta be at near-zero fault, but the "cyclist" would also be charged with a DUI. Really getting tired of cyclists (I live on a bike route) acting like they're above the traffic law because they're so caught up in the eco-smugness of feeling like they're making a difference.

You always check your shoulder and the fact that a car has the force of 1000 bikes... the driver is at fault.
If the street was dark and it was raining, there maybe an excuse... but it shouldnt take this long for the system to run the cars black box to further put the driver at fault for not signaling which I think is what happened.

85% fault at the driver and 15% for the biker for not slowing down to the stalled car and stop sign in the intersection.

I was skimming through the first time around.. I missed the part about it being a left turn... this changes everything... I think its all the bikers fault... they should always keep to the right of the road where should checks are expected.

What gun are you using? And what were the specs of your old compressor?

How big of a compressor are you looking for 10 gallon 20, 60?
Price range?
What do you want to do with it?

Automotive tools like an air impact or air ratchet use a lot of air continuously. Usually you want a larger high CFM compressor for this work

Construction tools like a Brad Nailer. Do not use air continuously so you can use a small portable air compressor.

I use a Milwaukee cordless impact gun. 1100 ft lbs of torque. All my air tools have been replaced with cordless tools. Can't go wrong with Speedaire compressors and KMS backing them up, IMO.

Stay away from oil-less compressors too btw.

Most of my air tools are Chicago Pneumatic. I treat them like shit and don't oil them nearly as much as I should but they still work great. Right now I'm just using a 20gal, 4.5hp, CH compressor and it works fine except using tools that use a high volume of air.

Snap-On absolutely does produce good compressors, BUT the compressor in question alongside the plethora of other Snap-On products sold at Costco are not produced by them or to their standards, rather they are licensing their name to other companies that produce 'consumer grade' products. I believe the compressor in question is produced by Campbell Hausfield.

We use Speedair compressors and they've served us well. I've used Ingersol Rand a lot too and they were great. Snap-On, Mac, Ingersol Rand, and Chicago Pneumatic are all excellent brands of air tools.

I also have the Milwaukee cordless impact gun and it is amazing. It sits alongside a number of other Milwaukee cordless tools that I have that are also amazing, and I plan on buying the Milwaukee cordless ratchet at some point. Electric tools have advanced by leaps and bounds over recent years and I tend to think they would serve you better than air at this point.

Any recommendations on where to purchase Speedair compressors? I always find I need a compressor so I may just get another 20gal. I do have a large amount of corded and cordless impact guns. But something inside me says I want another compressor again.

I don't blame you, I'd want another compressor too. Acklands-Grainger sells Speedair. I would watch CL, though, you can score something nice for a fraction of the new price. Compressors are generally pretty reliable so buying used wouldn't be a concern for me.

Chinese leaders urge English on Richmond signs (http://www.theprovince.com/news/Chinese+leaders+urge+English+Richmond+signs/11052681/story.html)

really like this line of logic, instead of wasting tax payers money to regulate something thats not serious they're trying to get the businesses to voluntarily change

Calling their effort “The Signs of Harmony Project,” the business, real estate and community representatives are promising to send someone to each business using such signs to persuade them to voluntarily include English in their signs.

The group, which includes four residents of Richmond and three from other regions of Metro Vancouver, is adamantly opposed to Richmond city regulating the language used in signs.

“When you regulate, you penalize. It is not business-friendly. It does not build harmony,” said Kenneth Tung, a former chair of the immigrant society SUCCESS who is president of an information technology company in Richmond.

Music, Blues, Legend B.B. King passed away @ 89

BB King, the King of Blues, dies at 89 - BBC News (http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-32747861)

The "King of the Blues", guitarist and singer BB King, has died aged 89.

King, known for his hits My Lucille, Sweet Little Angel and Rock Me Baby, died in his sleep in Las Vegas.

Born in Mississippi, King began performing in the 1940s, going on to influence a generation of musicians, and working with Eric Clapton and U2.

Once ranked as the third greatest guitarist of all time, he had been suffering ill health in recent months.

He was recently taken to hospital with a diabetes-related illness.

Fellow musicians paid tribute to King, including Lenny Kravitz who tweeted: "BB, anyone could play a thousand notes and never say what you said in one."

Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora added: "My friend and legend BB King passed. I'm so so sad, he was so great to me. We've lost the King. My love and prayers to his family."

Former Beatle Ringo Starr tweeted: "God bless BB King, peace and love to his family."

Actor Hugh Laurie said: "Oh God. BB King. Let the sad times roll."

And singer Will Young added: "BB King- the most wonderful blues singer and guitarist. I suggest everyone gets one of his records to hear true soul and spirit."

A former farmhand, King was awarded his 15th Grammy award in 2009 for his album One Kind Favor.

He was also inducted into both the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Rolling Stone magazine placed him behind only Jimi Hendrix and Duane Allman in its list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time.

Until recently, King performed in at least 100 concerts a year.

'Heartfelt vocals'

He fused together both jazz and blues on his beloved guitar, a Gibson ES-355 he lovingly dubbed "Lucille".

In the early part of his career, he played to exclusively black audiences, but his heartfelt vocals and undeniable talent saw him embraced by a much broader fanbase as time went on - touring Europe and topping the charts.

Younger musicians such as Clapton and Steve Miller, who admired his work, introduced him to a new generation of fans in the late '60s with hits like The Thrill is Gone.

Albums such as Live at County Cook Jail and BB King in London followed.

His career was reignited in the late 1980s when he duetted with U2 on When Love Comes To Town.

At the turn of the millennium, aged 75, he once again achieved major commercial success with the Eric Clapton collaboration Riding With the King.

"King's is now the name most synonymous with the blues, much as Louis Armstrong's once was with jazz," critic Francis Davis wrote in his 1995 book The History of the Blues.
"You don't have to be a blues fan to have heard of King."

bottle rockets, paintball gun, 2 dogs trying to climb up the base of the willow tree at it wouldnt deter it. Hit it second shot with the pellet gun and it flew away, never saw it again

His story seemed a little too elaborate to be legit but he was wearing clean clothes, a new pair of Jordan's and his phone had reception. Gave him my change on the way out from the North Road Mcdonalds. Came home just now and Google'd his rap group Pharsyde and sure enough it's him and his story checks out...

Depends on the value of the car, coverage, discount level, volume, and what % if any, you negotiate with the brokerage (the last one is way after you've established your competency and client list).

Also, you have to average it out with the services that make little or no money (reg, permits, address change, coverage change, storage, cancellation, new plates, etc).

To start, you'll probably make a menial wage (by the hour).

A proposal for 1,000 secure bike parking spaces is to go through Vancouver City Council next week.

Councillor George Affleck, who’s presenting the proposal, says the parking spaces would likely go in buildings owned by the city that have open spots and in traditional bike rack situations.

“The number is 1,000 and it’s based on growth that we’ve been seeing per year for daily commutes by bike and future potential growth,” he says.

The City of Vancouver currently has $50 million in the parking endowment fund, mostly from revenue through Easy Park, and Affleck would like to draw from those funds to build the spots.

They would largely be focused in the downtown core, although Affleck says there aren’t any specific areas chosen yet, and the secure mechanism will require consultation from city engineers.

“Bikes get stolen and disappear and hopefully this will be a way to provide security for those bikes.”

The Vancouver Police Department says around 2,000 bikes are stolen each year, and only a fraction of those are returned to their owners.

Affleck adds he’d like to see shower and change room facilities added in with the bike parking spots.

Fuck, I hate Mastercard right now. I was looking at my Mastercard statement before paying it and saw this $5.00 charge - some kind of fee. I phoned to ask what it was for. About a month ago, I purchased lottery tickets using my Mastercard. According to them, using their money for gambling allows them to charge me 5 bucks. It's in the agreement. "Don't you read your agreement, sir?" Yeah, I really like spending my time reading 50 pages of small print for shits and giggles...............

Anyway, I've been buying lottery tickets for as long as I can remember. I always pay with cash. This was the first time I used the credit card. So I ask the lady on the phone if the 5 bucks is going to some organization that addresses gambling addiction. Nope, it's another reason to take your money. She told me "We are lending you money and if it goes towards gambling, we charge you." Fucking loan sharks............ hee hee. She told me some people buy two dollar tickets to find out later that they get dinged 5 bucks. Wow.

Anyway, live and learn.

BTW, I have never had to pay interest on a credit card. I always pay the full amount, so this is the first and only five bucks those fokkers are getting from me.

Weird how almost no other breed of dogs are involved in these accidents..

I don't mind pit bulls, I've met nice dogs I really liked before, however there are so many bad owners owning an already aggressive breed that it doesn't make sense for most people to own them or have them around other dogs.

Don't really care about how "good" of a dog your friend has, we've had huskies in the past who were pretty aggressive and overall quite temperamental dogs, who never once had a problem with others. Pitbulls however seem to act "out of character" all the time.

Dogs are generally a product of their upbringing, however the physical characteristics of some breeds will cause a lot more damage should they bite/attack something. A poorly trained pitbull and a poorly trained chihuahua are both more likely to bite you than well trained dogs, but I know which one I'd rather be bitten by.

Don't blame the dog, blame the owner. Shitty owners will always impact a dog more than a "bad" breed.

It's like hating on lifted bro-dozer "coal rolling" trucks because of what they are. Nobody hates them for being trucks. But because they are primarily driven by certain types of people, often aggressively and with no respect for road users, this is why the average motorist hates them.

Ironically, they probably are the same type of people who own pitbulls and train them to be aggressive....

Shove the wire into the edge of the headliner then down the A-pillar trim then into the dash out the center of the dash and into your cig outlet.

-H has a battery where as -C has a capacitor, if you hard-wire it and run it constantly then -C is better as it runs cooler and no battery to worry about. People usually get the -C regardless just to be on the safe side but I've had the battery version and had no issues with it during the summer in direct sunlight (though I don't run it in parking mode).

i'll probably order the C from blackboxmycar.
i had a cam a couple of years ago but it was shit quality and the wires werent long enough to run it around.
Do you just pry the A pillar cover off and shove the wires through the dash from there?
do you keep it in the car or remove it everytime?

If there's enough space just try to tuck it in there, or pry it wide slightly and slip it in. If you wanna be thorough just pull it off and put it back on.

I used to remove the cam and keep it in the glovebox out of sight, but got lazy and just leave it up when I park.

Yes I also did what was suggested previously and wired it to the fusebox via add-a-circuit and a cig lighter and just hooked it up inside the dash. Be sure you hook it to a switched 12v circuit and not a constant if you don't have a power meter.

Our wonderful justice system at work:

On February 20, 2015 we reported police were searching for the suspect in a high-speed police chase that led RCMP after a motorcyclist through the streets of Surrey and right into Guildford Town Centre. Then, less than a month later, a video of the motorcyclist riding through mall and evading police surfaced online.

Now, the owner of that motorcycle – not the driver seen in this high speed chase – has been fined over $10,000 in tickets.
motorcycle
SEE ALSO: Police chase motorcyclist through Guildford Town Centre (VIDEO)

A provision of the Motor Vehicle Act allows police to charge owners of vehicles with penalties, even though that owner may not have been present or in control of the vehicle at the time of the infractions.

Because of this law, the motorcycle owner is facing $13,500 in fines for 58 infractions, including excessive speed, failing to stop for police, running red lights and driving without insurance.

Police were never able to locate the suspect riding the motorcycle.

Sauce: http://www.vancitybuzz.com/2015/06/motorcyle-owner-fined-guildford-mall/

tl;dr:
-Motorcycle in high speed chase
-Drives through Guildford Mall
-Evades police and gets away
-Motorcyclist IS NOT OWNER of motorcycle
-Police charge motorcycle owner because they could no apprehend suspect

How the fuck is this even legal? They know the rider wasn't the owner, yet they're charging the owner with $13,500 in fines anyway.. :fulloffuck:

Easy, if you lend your vehicle to an idiot who breaks a pile of laws, but refuse to say who was using it when the laws were broken, then you get to pay the fines. I'm gonna guess the rider will be repaying the owner under the table but they're doing it this way so the rider will only be paying for the fines they can redirect to the owner.

Toyotas new Head of PR has created some major buzz, and not for the fact that she's the highest ranking female exec ever at the company but rather she's making headlines for posting drugs to herself and has been arrested for smuggling! (oxy's) Her offices at the Toyota HQ have been raided

Police raid Toyota headquarters after Julie Hamp arrest - BBC News (http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-33250822)

Police have raided the headquarters of Toyota Motor in Toyota City, as well as its office in Tokyo.

It comes after the arrest of senior American executive Julie Hamp on suspicion of importing a controlled substance into Japan.

Toyota President Akio Toyoda said last week that he believes she did not intend to violate the law.

It is unclear what authorities were looking for in the raid, which is common after an arrest.

Toyota spokesman Ryo Sakai told Reuters news agency that the company would not comment because an investigation is ongoing.

Ms Hamp is Toyota's newly appointed head of public relations, the highest ranking female executive in Toyota's history.

She was arrested on 18 June on suspicion of importing oxycodone, a narcotic pain killer, into Japan. The substance is tightly controlled in the country.

Police said the drugs were in a parcel that Ms Hamp had posted to herself.

She told police she brought the drugs into Japan to help with pain in her knees, Kyodo News reported.

A simple search would have informed her that all forms of narcotics are illegal to be imported into japan, even if you had a prescription/doctors note, and im assuming she knew that which is why she mailed them to herself.

but yeah what I found most amusing is her position at Toyota and this being her first PR case :D

This might be a stupid question, but if I have three 12V batteries, and I want to hook them to a 24V circuit, can I hook two batteries in parallel and then put that in series with the last battery to make 24V? Or will that cause problems with charging and such?

Unscrupulous meat traders discovered selling 40-year-old beef, pork and chicken wings | National Post (http://news.nationalpost.com/news/world/unscrupulous-meat-traders-discovered-selling-40-year-old-beef-pork-and-chicken-wings)

Holy shit

I don't get the 40yrs meat. I mean, it probably cost more to freeze meat that long than raising one from scratch. Sure you could re freeze however many times, but to preserve the look enough to be sold later to some dumbass, the amount of energy consumed would be staggering.

It's most likely a stunt to gather attention. I can get 40mth. But 40 fucking years?

My mom told me about that story thought it was some exaggerated or faux news site... :lol
Maybe some of the meat stuck in the back of the freezer was just really old, I doubt they specialize in aging the meat that long ;)

Or maybe it was just a really old cow :D

I don't know about shooting anyone, but those guns are very much loaded, they're some of the only loaded guns in the UK IIRC.

In weather like this, check your vehicle's coolant levels.

If it's low, make sure to fill with the right stuff.

Happy Birthday, CANADA!!!!!!!

Such an awesome place to live in. Not perfect, but a helluva lot better than most.

My family has been in this country for four generations. Can't think of any other country I'd rather be.
