It's $175 more expensive if I buy it online with delivery, so I'd rather just go to Costco myself.

Thanks guys. I've put my buddy on notice, but if a spanish speaking hobz can do it himself, I feel like I should give it a shot. I can't imagine doing a king size by yourself though, that's actually impressive.
It's just faster and easier if I can do it myself.

My V6 is still holding on so that's what I've been using for cordless.
If I were to change, I would look at the Shark Stratos since I keep reading how unreliable the newer Dysons are.

I'm using a Dyson V8. I've had it for the last 5 years and it's pretty good. I have all hardwood floors so it doesn't use that much power - one charge gets me the entire main floor and my room (~ 1500 sqft?).
I got a Tineco Floor One S5 from a coworker for pretty cheap in 2024. If I had to buy one device all over again, it would be this. It's a wet-dry vacuum. Self propels so my folks like it. It vacuums and mops pretty decently - again hardwood floors so pretty straightforward. It has a lot more suck than the Dyson tho.

I don't recommend lending / borrowing someone else's Costco card, but in the last few months when I'm at Costco, nobody has ever compared my ugly mug to the low quality photo on the card. Not at the front entrance where I need to beep my card, and not at the (self) checkout where I may or may not be assisted by a Costco staff.

Dyson.
We are on our second one. Our V7 Animal was still working after 6 years, but the battery was not holding a lot of charge and cannot run max power at all. I gave it to a friend when we bought the V15 so he could mod it to run on Dewalt batteries
The laser brush that came with the V15 ultimate or whatever the fuck it was called is amazing.
Bought it last Christmas when we were talking about the whole rakuten rebate thing. I think it came to under $700 after tax.

The brush head has a green laser on it to shine on the ground. It basically tells you how dirty your floor is. The V15 also tracks the different sized particles that it has sucked up which kind of gamifies it a little.

I honestly don't get it, just order the shit you want online. I've rarely set foot inside a Costco and will my visit last weekend just re-confirmed it. Every time it's a shit show. Call it post-pandemic hangover but every time I go there's way to many fucking people with their giant carts weaving in and out like a game of frogger. Immigrants bringing their entire extended families to shop, C-lais clogging up the aisles yapping with their c-lai friends, newlywed white couples going on "costco dates" cuz they're too broke to do anything else ffs.
A good shopping experience to me is getting in and out of a place in 30 mins flat. Costco guarantees none of that.
p.s. Just realized this isn't even the Costco thread. Now we got two of these going now? ffs!
Don't @ me Hobz :nerd:

^or as underscore says, just go when the immigrants arent there. Or better yet, go to a location where there is little to no immigrants.
You want a huge migraine and fight people in a parking lot? richmond costco's the best for that
Go to downtown costco if you want a more hassle free experience as most china fucks are too cheap to pay the 2 dollar parking. Although they have a way more limited selection. Pus side is they have costco sushi!!! and i was able to pickup a tiramisu scoop cake today (they had like 10 of them).

One of my friends exclusively goes in on a Saturday afternoon to join the height of the chaos in Richmond - he then proceeds to navigate past every single aisle like it's mandatory. He enjoys it but I think it's lunacy.
I usually go on a weekday evening and can get in and out of Costco warehouse within 30 minutes shopping for myself - I know what I need from there and don't browse the aisles. Most of the time I just bring a tote bag if I can't carry everything by hand. I'm usually cheap for parking but don't mind paying $2 for downtown costco for covered parking and wider spaces.
I also just tried Costco same day via instacart and will likely keep using the service if I need a non-perishable somewhat urgent. It was just nice to order what I need online and have it delivered same-day to my doorstep.

True this, mostly. I've been to both the Still Creek store and the Richmond store on the weekends in the past few months at different times, and my conclusion is -- the Richmond customers are lazy bastards that sleep in. If you get there before 10am, esp on a Sunday, it is likely there'll still be parking in the on-site lots. Still Creek has normal people for customers, and the parking lot starts filling up by 9:30am.
I don't even want to go to either Costco stores after 11am on the weekend.

My biggest peeve about the Dyson is that it doesn't have an "ON" button. You have to hold the trigger. You can't beat their suction though. If I had carpet, Dyson for sure. If it's hard flooring, I'd buy a tineco wet/dry with two batteries.

The associate standing behind the scanner gets to see an enlarged version of your picture and check if the card belongs to you or not.
Also, supposed to flag people who's cards have expired. Most likely let you in, but a nice reminder to update membership. Do it twice or more and they'll probably cancel your account.

Sad but also funny story.
I went by Osoyoos Produce on Victoria/41st today (https://www.yelp.ca/biz/osoyoos-produce-vancouver) - it's the classic small Chinese grocery store. By the till there's a wall of photos of people who have shoplifted from them printed out in colour on letter size paper. It's kinda hilarious - there's like 15-20 people on the wall.
The sad part is that every single one of them were elderly seniors - the kind that pull the basket carts with them, the kind that pick through your recycling for pop cans. I doubt they are shoplifting because their buddies dared them to steal something or that they think they're entitled to steal (or saying F U to Trudeau for food prices) but it's because they don't have enough money for food.

Well their parking lot is pretty big.
Also it's minutes from my house it might be the first RS meat I might consider attending...
Their poke is a good deal relative to actual poke places. Also I've gotten their fresh oysters to Schuck at home it's way cheaper.

I don't know a ton about brakes but the initial bite under hard braking from my current setup is really bad. Are any of these options for front pads decent? It's just a street car but none of them will be any better I'd rather not waste money on these calipers and put it towards Boxster 4 pots.

The Dynamic Friction Track Pads are actually pretty decent from the guys that track lightweight cars. But as you mention, you're looking for more of a street/sport set up? What's your dust tolerance?
If you don't care much for dust, go with a semi-metallic option. All the ceramics have pretty lackluster brake feel.

If I was living in Vancouver I would be seriously looking at this. I wonder if the makerspace could get a property tax exemption because it's a not for profit. I should not be hard to get the rest of the space rented.
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1432571764813202
Details - 5400 sq ft, currently ~65% occupancy, fully built out. 30 lockable spaces, 24/7 access system installed! Makers would be interested in continuing to operate and use the upper office floor (900 sq ft) at a rate of $3000/m
Rent $12,421.66
Revenue
Current Tenants $11,075.00
Empty Spaces $4,800.00
Makers Office Space $3,000.00
100% occupancy revenue $18,875.00
I spent about 3 months of my time this year building the space out and around $40k in materials and support, so I would love it if someone could continue this on and provide a space for those currently renting with us so it doesn't go to waste.
Please give me a shout if you want to jump on a call or visit the space. We have given our notice to our landlord for Feb 28th, and have to pay a penalty to break the lease, so in a perfect world someone could take it over so we don't have to pay it!
I wonder if you can fit a hoist.
after insurance, cleaning and maintenance, is there really enough profit in that? that margin is not that lucrative

It's a 3200lb+ street car so I don't want something noisy or that needs heat to work or whatever. Dust I'm not really worried about since the car is always filthy anyways. Semi-metallic my options are Raybestos, AC Delco or Quality Built, which isn't a very reassuring sounding brand name lol.

I'm really happy with the EBC red stuff pads I just put on. Bite isn't quite as good as my ferodo ds2500s but probably 85-90% as good with 85-90% less dust and noise is a very good trade off.

Just like what BAWS asked, what's your tolerance on dust?
I believe C-TEK is same as Stoptech/Centric. So the C-TEK pads MIGHT be worth a try.
If it comes to looking at brand name stuff, I liked how StopTech Sport pads worked on the front with my MS3. But it's got a HUGE sweep on 320 rotors
On my M3 right now I'm using EBC Bluestuff. They are semi track pads that work even when cold. They bite well, but is only ok at track. Pretty quiet otherwise. But I also have a HUGE sweep area on 380 rotors.
Experience may vary on a Celica

I'm not bothered by dust, noise is the only thing I don't want.
The rotors are about 275mm and I'm limited to those so I can fit under 15s. I have Hawk HPS rear pads that seem to work well but they only support the very base model Celica now for some reason. The one thing I can do is wait until the budget can cover putting 4 pot 2.7 Boxster calipers onto the same size rotor. I'd just rather put good pads into my stock calipers *if* I can find something that will actually be good.
It sounds like making the jump to something more expensive from EBC might be the best bet.

Stoptech pads used to be CHEAP. I don't know about right now. The C-TEK semi metallic front says $14. I'd say give them a try IF they have the right fitment for your GT4. Too many times more obscure cars like yours can be very hard to find parts for.

Yeah she's a sturdy gal. The base trim ST you could order down to about 2500lbs but the turbo and AWD systems plus a glass hatch and a lot of extra bracing add up. I've shaved probably 100lbs off mine, other people have gotten theirs down to about 2800 by stripping as much as they can. You can get carbon replacements for almost the entire body now but that's $$$$.
Fortunately they used the same front brakes on all but the base trim level, but not a lot of brands support Celicas to begin with. EBC lists part numbers for the Celica but they don't seem to be in stock anywhere, which isn't promising.

Which pads and rotors are you running now? Could be a cheap option to get the rotors resurfaced and the pad material re-bedded.
Is your GT4 a daily driver or strictly for rally?
Re: StopTech - *Edit - Correction*. They used to be cheap until they were bought out and sold to Centric. They used to have an amazing product for the enthusiast/auto sport market, but their products and prices suck now.
Re: Dynamic Friction - Some times their pads are hit and miss but it highly depends on your application. A few guys with the local PCA run them in their 986/987 and 996/997 street cars for track days and they all agree it's not bad for the price. The braking consistency fades after probably three or four track days in with heavy braking. Keep in mind, CTMP/Mosport is not a brake-heavy track like say for example, Mission Raceway, so keep that in mind.
I have a set that I bought but never installed them. I'm still using my factory pads and I'm super slow. :D

Right now they're stock-spec mystery rotors that came with the car that I had resurfaced. Pads are Beck Arnley ceramics. Both have been on the car since I think 2018? and have maybe 12k on them.
It's technically my main car but I WFH and hardly go anywhere so it only does like 3k/year. Maybe I should look up how to re-bed the current pads and see if it helps them at all. Sitting outside and not driving much probably isn't great for them.

Probably not gonna get much from bedding ceramic pads imo. You'll just end up smearing them across the rotors.

I worked in Lake City 5 years ago in a rat infested building and even then I found out the long term plans as our landlord were constantly approached by developers regarding the future.
We moved out in 2020.
Basically, the long term plan (Covid changed timelines) is to turn that stretch of Lake City and possibly more into a Universal Studios style mega complex. Given Vancouver's film tax credit system as well as currently shitty dollar, this would mean tons of momentum in the film scene here and the need for more facilities. Not to mention small studios are consistently being bought up by mega-conglomerates.

Vancouver is a few years behind culinary, but in NY and LA there is a growing trend of going back to basics with the burger, that I hope in a few years we'll start seeing it pop up here.
Back to basics meaning smaller patties (1.5oz-2oz) cooked with good technique (hard sear, plenty of maillard), basic ingredients like onions, processed "american" cheese, and a ultra refined soft pillowy bun.

I had the Gastown Double Burger at Pourhouse recently and it pretty much hits this exact description, and was fucking great (but tbh I could do without the bacon)
"brisket & chuck, american cheese, bacon, caramelized onions, pickles, shredduce, secret sauce, potato bun, hand-cut fries"
It's $25 with fries or $17 without.
Tbh if they got rid of the bacon and did it with raw thinly sliced onions instead of caramelized, and used basic chuck instead of the more expensive brisket blend, they could probably get it even cheaper and still be amazing.

I'm no burger expert but I quite like the Royale with Cheese at Bells & Whistle - it's two smashed patties with melty American cheese, a secret sauce and pickles. I liken it to what a Big Mac could be if it was actually good. The cheese is pretty rich so it stands out in each bite and the pickles have a nice briny sweetness to it. TBH I don't know where else is great anymore. I always liked the pourhouse burger years ago when I went often ish, hawksworth had a great burger, but that unfortunately came with being in hawksworth and alibi room had a really good, not great burger, but the beer list that came with it bumped it up into great category.

Do you have Shake Shack there? Those are the best fast food burgers I can get here. Slightly better than 5 Guys although I prefer 5 Guys fries
For some reason I prefer takeout, as the cheese has a chance to thicken up a bit and the bun is extra squishy. It's nasty stuff but so good
The closest Shake Shack we have is in Kirkland, WA. There's also one at UVillage in Seattle. I love shake shack, but it must also be because I love how fake American cheese tastes. It just hits diff.

Romer's was pretty bad when I went many years ago, I have not had the desire to go back.
My first experience there (River District), a spider literally crawled down from the ceiling and walked all over my plate. When we told the server, she asked me "do you want to change tables?". Well fucking duh. I was surprised they didn't offer me anything as an apology (could have been as simple as a free coke or whatever). Hell, they didn't even really apologize for the incident at all now that I think about it.

To some degree no, but they could have at least said sorry and moved us right away lol. I got neither!
But anyways, I remember my friend saying that I'll LOVE their burgers and they use the BEST ingredients. After one bite, I thought to myself "this isn't anything special". I didn't really have the heart to tell her the truth.

It's my current favourite local burger.

Yesterday out for a walk so fucking typical..
Buddy guy TFW (the driver looked fresh off the boat) didn’t know if their truck would fit under this tunnel that does under HWY 1 here:
https://i.imgur.com/3NfYJCa.jpeg
https://i.imgur.com/J2wRsXJ.jpeg
So although the height is clearly posted, they stopped 20 feet outside the tunnel with hazards on while other cars passed, the passenger then got out and guided the truck in until he could determine whether they could fit or not, and he walked half the tunnel until hopping the rail and getting back in…
Fucking clowns, if you’re driving a vehicle like this and don’t know the height/routes, you probably shouldn’t be driving such a vehicle. Not like this has already happened 30 other times..

I concur with this, The Gull is my personal favorite burger/fries combo in Vancouver, they have it down perfect. A good basic burger, and fantastic Kennebec style fries.
Pourhouse is good, but their burger has too much going on, I don't need a bunch of extra shit on my burger.
I enjoy Between2Buns too because the owner is cool, but their burger is way too expensive for a basic smashy, bloody $14 for a double cheeseburger, and that's for the burger only.

That said, the reason for my PSA is Picanha was only $12.99/lb and the clerk said nobody buys it in the Winter so they're just selling at cost where as those few who know generally buy in the Summer. Damn, I was at the Brentwood upper parking lot. Just got out of London Drugs, when across the driveway was this Dodge muscle car. Just parked in the handicap parking. Out steps this granny. Cane and all. She must have been in her 80's. I roll down the window and yell out, "Nice Car!!!" She's like, "Thank you........" I had a short convo with her. I bet that thing goes pretty fast. She replies, "It goes fast when I want it to." She even said, "Right on," like something to of an episode of the Mod Squad. She must have been a hot rod chick back in the day. Anyway, I hope when I'm her age, I'd be driving a TT Supra for shits and giggles.

Rumour was they didn't pay their bills for a long time and the suppliers either stopped or would only do COD. When you can no longer get product, a retailer will fail pretty quickly.
Also something about over expanding too quickly.
I do wonder what happened to Anitec though, they just suddenly and quietly went away. Though NCIX did eat their lunch.

When I started my hardware site I worked with them to borrow hardware to review in exchange for a banner on my site. One of the first things I tested was a really expensive double GPU video card from ATI that unfortunately sucked and I had to say so. After that I had to stick to coolers for a while (I was one of the first to review the Golden Orb which was a huge hit if you guys remember)
Being an honest, small sized hardware site was not a great business strategy as it turns out, but I was able to make it work for like 15 years. The real way to make money was to work in favor of the hardware companies, not the readers. Oh well.

Think they moved to Yaohan. Last time I walked by, it looked empty/closed though.

HardCoreWare!
I knew a lot of the local webmasters in Vancouver and around the world. They were much better businessmen than I ever was. I am kind of an engineer at heart, and I just wanted to learn and write about the hardware.
Looking back, I probably would have been much better off just working for one of those guys instead of doing my own thing.

I used to deliver computer cases from a warehouse in Richmond to a LOT of these places you guys mentioned lol. It was a minimum wage job but I had fun drifting in the delivery van with bald wheels and falling asleep in the warehouse when there was buttfuck nothing to do. The owner was some salty wet Taiwanese(?) guy and I found his stash of porn hidden on a shared company drive :lol
Eventually got laid off but oh well, started collecting EI instead. Ha!

Remember when Acuras could hold their own against the best Germany had to offer?
The 330ci cost more than 20% more and won the comparison against the CL Type S by only 1 point.

God. A good friend of mine passed away after two years of painful cancer treatment. He left behind a wife and a 3 year old kid. Incredibly thoughtful and generous guy. Heck of a father and husband, really cared for his family, and just everyone around him in general. Drove an ND, rode a GS - we used to ride in the mountains out in the Bay Area (met him through the work A Capella Club).
I didn't find out until I texted him to check in yesterday. Since he had relocated to LA and I had relocated to Toronto, we haven't seen each other in person for a while. His wife replied just now, and said he passed away last week. The end had come so quickly that he didn't have time to give her a list of people to contact.
It's like it's always the people who least deserve it, are the ones who have to go?
Sucks.

You're so right, that's exactly how it was.
First and only time I went there, I got yelled at for not being 100% efficient putting in my order, paying, getting the F out. Other people got yelled at for being too slow / too ignorant, and were openly mocked. It was terrible lol.

I never went to ATIC because of that. Their prices weren't so great that the shitty service should be rewarded. Pay a few dollars more for proper service (and you'd often need it back then if something went wrong)

In the 90's a friend of mine went to ATIC to buy a CPU. He walked out when they brought one out from the back and placed it pins down on the counter. No packaging or antistatic bag. He just turned around and walked out.

Bit of a dumb question for you electricians.
If I'm reading 10 amps combined across a few banks of a PDU, and the input is 208 volt triple phase power, is this calculation correct to get the wattage?
Triple phase x 10 amps x 208 volts
1.732 * 10 * 208 = 3602.56 watts
Since I don't want to use more than 80% on the circuit, I'd need at least 4320 watts of power to the PDU - not including the calculations for devices drawing more at peak usage.
Anything that I'm missing? I'm trying to calculate power needs for a datacenter renewal.

2024 was the first year hearing about 2 acquaintances pass away from illness/accident. In these early death cases, is it because largely due to poor health choices or mostly RnG? The friends that died were healthy and active but it appears early deaths are mostly luck based. Darts, alcohol, not exercising and drugs seem to only affect the 50+yo timeline. Makes me wanna buy the P-Car and not wait.

We only have a handful of Michelin starred restaurants in Vancouver. Half of them are boring ass sushi joints. So try the ones that are not
If you say it’s too expensive then just take a hibachi, a dungeon crab you caught from cates park and make her a meal in the forest somewhere (afterwards make sure to….finish her !!!!)

My back deck is 40" off the ground. Right where the stairs connect to the deck, I suspect the wood is rotting and it's just a matter of time before the stairs will collapse. Can I just find someone to help repair this via Home Depot's Home Services feature?
