Could anyone recommend a hard drive destruction/shredding service and cost?
I'm looking to recycle some computers and want to/prefer to have the data properly destroyed. Thanks!
Legit drove a screwdriver through the disc. If it's shattered you aren't getting anything off.
Take cover off the hard drive and put some shit or jizz on the disc(s) and let it sit for a while.............
Seriously, hard drives are hermetically sealed. Expose the disc to the elements should do the trick. If not sure, just scratch the shit out of all the surfaces. Multiple discs, get em all. Hell, run a huge magnet over the surfaces. Bury that shit in your cat's litter box, lol. Sandpaper, wire brush, whatever.

Anyone have any suggestions on the best place to buy a shotgun at a decent price?
Cabela's, Reliable Gun, etc.?
I'm out the loop on this stuff, are trade shows any good in Canada for used firearms?
Il also add on to CGN forum as noted above, lots of selection, people are honest on there, Ive bought and sold lots of stuff on there.
Reliable is great, awesome staff, the used rack might be up your alley
Stay away from lever arms, bunch of degens over there

CGN you need to have a certain number of posts etc. to get into the classifieds I believe
What type of shotgun? Cabellas etc. always has very limited selection, occasionally online you can find some over/unders etc. that other places don’t really carry.
I don’t recommend Italian sporting goods, swear the guys working there are fucking knobs. I go in there occasionally to buy my hunting licence and tags and since I’m only buying those I almost always get this attitude like “oh…this is all you’re here for?!?”

I would scotchbright them after cleaning, then clean them off again. If you search: ISF brake painting, a lot of guys have done it the same way I mentioned. I just resprayed mine the same way and they turned out fine.
BTW, shameless plug: FS - '11 ISF complete front and rear brakes - $1500. Repainted calipers, new pads, freshly machined rotors.

Distance between the glass on the left and the door. If it's too close or too far it will affect the motion of the door.

Yeah, that was being shared like crazy through Whatsapp today. I feel like that dude is a vegetable at best after that. I'm surprised he didn't die right then and there based on the weight of the screen, the fall distance, and how it looked like it hit him square in the head.

If you are up early enough on a weekend, you can roll the dice and just drive in, I would suggest showing up at 7am, by 730 / 8am, you risk the lot being full.
If you want a table, they are very limited, suggest showing up pre 7am
There is no reservations for weekdays, I could not find reservations for weekends either
If you go on weekdays, you can get in by 9am, and parking will still be available

Terrible safety regulations in the entire entertainment industry in Hong Kong.
Ever wonder why they have to pray to the gods before starting a job?
Because there is no one but the god watching them when they start working.
Talked to people who gigs in the live event industry in Hong Kong. Zero safety mindset, zero regulation and codes to follow
The dancers on this mirror show complainted of dangerous working condition and there were several equipment-related incidents in the previous days leading up to this devastating incident.

I don't think it's the cost of material that is preventing safety standards from being standardized. Rather labor cost. Specific to this incident and industry. Hong kong still employs people to fix issues/make changes on the fly in the air during an event, rather than spent the extra money to make sure everything is double prep during setup.
Hong Kong labor-related industry tends to still think throwing more bodies at the problem is the solution. It's always been a problem.
Can't see this improving now with China as el capitan. Interestingly this incident happened to a Hong Kong band know known to not be ccp friendly.

If you want a bin straight from an actual disposal company, there's only like 2 now. Waste Connections is buying everyone, I think GFL is the only other one in the LM. But you'll likely need an account, and unless you already have an established relationship (ie. you've spent money there) you'll be waiting for a long time to get one.

BC Ferries is fucking stupid, and I hate how they have their lanes system.
Stupidity 1: At the gates, there are 2 open kiosks with huge lines. Then suddenly they open 4 more randomly, and everyone who lined up behind me is now suddenly in front of me. This is even more annoying when you have reservation tickets but are juust about to make the cutoff.
Stupidity 2: They usually have dedicated lanes for reservations, and then the 'general queue' lines, two for upper deck and two for lower deck. But these aren't organized in any way. I've had cars that I know 100% paid after me, get on the boat before me.
Stupidity 3: How they load the boats is so inconsistent. Sometimes there's like 2 feet between cars and they say nothing. Last time I went some F150 parked so close to the back of my car I couldn't open the trunk.

It's a small complaint, but I hate how they run the ferry from Saltspring Island to Swartz Bay. They have the stupid thing scheduled to arrive just a bit too close to the next departure to Tsawwassen so you have to scramble off as quick as you can, drive way down the road to turn around because for some stupid fucking reason they can't just let you loop around at the terminal, and then have the person at the booth tell me I'm late and I really need to get there earlier next time. It's not their fault so I'm always polite but in my head I'm thinking motherfucker I got here as quickly as your stupid company would let me without having to take the earlier ferry and sit at this stupid terminal for an hour for no reason.

Look at bagster it's a large bag that can hold 3300 pounds. You buy it from Lowe's or home Depot fill it up and then call the number and a waste company will pick it up. It's $40 for the bag and $280 to take it away.

This has driven me nuts for years. I just about lost it one Christmas Eve morning when I missed the reservation cutoff by 2 minutes because they didn't open up any booths dedicated to reservations. I was in booth lineup at 9:58 and got through the booth at 10:32 (for the 11:00am sailing) and the woman was like "Sorry, you missed the cutoff" so they put me in general standby. There was an RCMP car in the terminal, and I said to my wife "If we don't make it on this ferry, I'm probably going to leave in that thing"
Stupidity 2: They usually have dedicated lanes for reservations, and then the 'general queue' lines, two for upper deck and two for lower deck. But these aren't organized in any way. I've had cars that I know 100% paid after me, get on the boat before me.
They know how many lanes are assured to get on, so in general standby they don't load in order of "arrival" or order of "payment", until they get down to the last lane. This one's not a big deal to me, you're getting on either way, this way just lets them load faster.
Stupidity 3: How they load the boats is so inconsistent. Sometimes there's like 2 feet between cars and they say nothing. Last time I went some F150 parked so close to the back of my car I couldn't open the trunk.
I notice that they'll only have loading staff helping people and checking parking distances when the sailings are crazy busy. And when they do, they'll really pack them in like sardines.

It doesn't help she's always asking to go on some long weekend too. We never end up going and often but not always I'll see a thing on the news that weekend saying what a fucking shit show it was even for people who reserved. I havent been to Victoria since 2010 and i dont recall this new "fare saver" program they've implemented. how does this work? you book an off time "fare saver" rate, you pay in full, and then you show up to the ferry at your set time with a reservation? or is it not reserved?
Seems to be quite a bit cheaper with the fare saver. Like almost 50% off.
Great68
08-02-2022, 12:48 PM
It's essentially reduced fare plus free reservation on certain off-peak sailings, on the condition that you pay in full up front.
You get no refunds on day of sailing if you miss your sailing. Useful if you are 100% sure of your travel plans. Risky if you're travelling from elsewhere and reliant on getting through traffic etc.
Miss your ferry and not only are you out your pre-paid fees for that sailing, but you're also on the hook for the full fees of the next ferry you end up catching.

So when you go to the terminal, do you go the reservation line? should i arrive like 1h early and sit there?
You have to arrive between 60-30minutes prior to your sailing.
I've been too early before on reservation (somewhere around 1.5-2 hours early) and they said I could either sit in standby for the next sailing (which no guarantee I'd get on) or come back in an hour. I took the latter, just chilled out over in the arrivals lot, had a Japadog, and then got back in line.

Same experience as Great68 for reservations.
I used to do a lot of work over on Vancouver Island extensively where I planned my schedule by arriving 30 - 60 minutes prior to my preferred sailing. If in the event it was too early (usually due to my own volition) they told me to get lost so I often took a nap in the car or did some work, or went into the terminal to grab a quick bite or washroom break and head back.
You sometimes have to make a judgement call especially on the more popular sailing times as to buck up and simply wait or leave and come back. I often stayed as opposed to leave and come back so I could make it back in time for Stock and Noob meets (no joke.) Get off the ferry, take the highway back in to Richmond and host the meet. Good times.

Something nice to know is that your arrival time is when you’re in line and on camera. Don’t need to stress about long lineups if you’re not at the booth 30 mins prior.
I was that stressed out person one day that chose the wrong lineup.

Just an FYI as a lot of people don't know this, most name brand athletics (ie. Nike, Adidas), have a 2 or 3 year warranty, and it's pretty generous. As long as it doesn't have signs of obvious abuse/neglect (ie. burn marks), as long as it falls apart within the warranty period they'll replace or refund.
I bought a pair of Nike's online 15 months ago and they started to squeak like the sole is delaminating, just need to send it in for an inspection and full refund. The wife did something similar with a pair of Adidas that fell apart after ~1.5 years, took it to SportChek and they gave her store credit for full amount.
You will need receipt in all cases though.

Yeah, if you ask anyone at /r/personalfinance they'd suggest 20/4/10 rule, 2000 beige corolla.
The reason I ask is because a car forum would value it differently. It isn't a regular commuter for the average person here. So I guess the question re-phrased would be when would you guys specifically deem it's reasonable for yourself? I know the answers could vary between having 2x to 5x salary of the cars value or even just affording the payments paycheque to paycheque.
I've been so ingrained to not spend any money on cars to the point where I would only pick up a car if it's a steal and I know their value would hold. For the longest time I thought I'd never spend more than $20K on a car.

Just curious, when would you guys consider being able to afford a $80 - 100K+ car?
Real life example. I bought my F80 M3 in 2018, ~90k negotiated price, just before 100k out the door. Lease payments of $1299/m. Judge it on your own circumstances.
Ordered it in Feb when I couldn't realistically afford it making 72k, yolo I'll find a new job :fuckthatshit:
Laid off in Mar 23 cause office closed with a decent payout :derp:
Found a new job started April 16th making 81k + bonus.
Euro delivery on M3 in Sept. Raise to $86-7k + bonus I think when I came back from the vacation.
Couple of groundwork stuff.
I was married and in a DINK household ~150-160k a year.
We had a mortgage that was 1100/m that we bumped and pay 1800/m. Total costs for our home was about 2500/m including strata, insurance, utilities, taxes.
I had no car costs as I had a paid off MS3 that I sold. Then I bought a NC to dick around in, which then I sold.
That was really it for costs as wife had a Mini Cooper, but work paid for it.
Asterisks to think about, nowadays with the rates being the way they are there's no way you are getting a $1300/m lease payment on a 100k car. I was curious and poked at the A91 Supra because pricing is out. 72k price, 84k with taxes out the door. Finance at 7.49% I think with payments around $1600/m for 60m finance. My M3 was right around $1600/m on 60m finance as well but it's 16k more expensive out the door.
Also consider the fact that we were DINKs. There's no way I can throw down a 0 downpay 100k car right now with a 2nd kid on the way.

I'm close to making a decision to get one in this range (after taxes) and I haven't bought a new car since 1999... always just drive fully owned <$10k used cars all the time and been totally fine even as a car enthusiast.
I think it's more complicated than affording though... like I seen a lot of people die around me the last couple years... couple friends the same age as me, couple older relatives and recently a close family relative last week.
I decided that even though my annual income does not in any way justify that sort of purchase, and I get sick to my stomach imagining signing paperwork on it, I have relatively little mortgage left and I can sell a few other cars that have appreciated notably in the 10+ years I've owned them and just want to live a bit for a change. I've never had a brand new powerful car and want to.
I wouldn't say I'm going like YOLO or anything... but definitely any financial advisor would say that it's not a good idea for me. A life advisor might disagree.

That is gold. No pun intended
I had an 07 Corvette years ago, roll up to 711 in Coquitlam, go inside, grab some shit, standing in line, this woman in her 30s gets in line behind me
"iisss thhattt youurrr corvveetteeeee"
Me "Haha yes"
" Oooooooooo my kind of mannnn"
I laugh it off, pay for my shit, go outside
As soon as I'm about to open the door to the car, this 16 year old kid across the parking lot shouts "sweet car man!"
Me "Thank you!"
As I'm about to get in the car, the cougar comes out of 711, kid shouts again "mom did you see the cool car!?!"
Cougar "oooo yyeeeaa honey"
Keep in mind I was 23 at the time :drunk:

This is the sexiest thing about owning a truck.
My wife was a hard no on red. I was set on leadfoot grey but could only find 2.7Ls in that colour when I was in the market. Never thought I’d buy silver but couldn’t be picky with limited inventory and it has grown on me a lot since.
Plus I opened the door and loved the blue interior.

Does anyone have recommendations for places to eat in Vegas that are good, but aren't stupid expensive?
A buddy recommended Nobu, but I looked at their menu and it's like $40+ USD for an appy. That one meal alone would probably cost us over $300 USD.
I recently went to the Mackenzie room and AnnaLena and we spent $250 and $350 respectively, while the food was good, I don't think food is worth that much no matter how good it is.
I'm just looking for a solid meal. For lunch we're doing Gordan Ramsay Burger one day, but we have two dinner nights available and I'm looking for ideas, thanks!

Just curious, when would you guys consider being able to afford a $80 - 100K+ car?
Are you sure "when" is the right question? There are so many variables to the equation there is no right or wrong answer. All it takes its to become one of your 1% friends and they can buy as many $80K - $100K+ cars day and night like nobody's business. Throw in your 99% friends and they may never be able to buy one. Here on Revscene, everyone drives an $80K+ car given how baller we are in this make believe metaverse we live in.

That's a really interesting article.
Thought about this randomly in the past as well. Everyone is living longer, "achievements" take more innovation to become recognized, and getting good at hobbies or sports have become exponentially harder than ever before. There's so much information out there for everything that the playing field has been the most level than ever before.
That article also makes me think about how much longer it takes for everyone to financially "make it" before they consider settling down. Everything mentioned in the article probably helps contribute to that.

I worked with a handful of brokers in Vancouver and tried a few in Toronto but eventually landed with a guy in Vancouver.
For context, every one of the referred brokers I worked with in Vancouver were excellent and the only reason why I didn't end up working with them was because they could not guarantee the specific requirement I had (it was a specific ring design and they couldn't source the diamond parameters I wanted and at a price I was comfortable with.) Will send PM shortly as I don't want to post the info here as the guy doesn't like to be advertised.

Little Jumbo (Bistro-y as well, good cocktail bar)
The Palms - Hotel Rialto (Casual food, my favourite cocktail bar)
10 Acres (Bistro-y, Farm to table)
Chorizo & Co (Kind of Spanish Tapa Style, good cocktails)
Il Covo (Homestyle italian)

If you have time, def recommend doing the Pacific Marine Circle Route https://vancouverisland.travel/itineraries/pacific-marine-circle-route/
Can be done in a day with stops for lunch and sightseeing.
Amazing stretches of twisty roads and great views.
Although if you have a very lowered car, watch out for a few areas with really hard, unmarked, bumps particularly on the west-coast stretch.
Also ensure you have gas and tell somebody where you are going, as cell reception is spotty for significant stretches.

I'd recommend to plan Butchart to be it's own day (or at least half a day).
The Beach Drive loop is nice (but can be slow). If you're going to do that, I recommend turning left at Sayward Rd from the highway, and then across Fowler onto Cordova bay rd. And then just follow along the coast (Cordova Bay Rd, Ash Rd, Arbutus Rd, and then onto Beach)
After Hatley Castle, another fun little loop is go across Esquimalt Lagoon, get onto Metchosin Rd south, and then connect up to Kangaroo Rd (Very twisty fun road). It will connect up with Sooke Hwy 14, and then just truck back on that.

Honestly, what I would do is hit up Butchart right off the ferry. Spend as much time as you need there (It'll cost you $76 for two people, so you want to get your money's worth), and then spend the first evening around downtown. Then plan to hit up Hatley, and the other spots you need to drive to on your second day.
If you're short on time, I'd drop Craigdarroch. It's not really much more than a big old house.

Red Fish Blue Fish is a big no from me.
I only managed to try it once, it was several years after it opened we were in the area and the line was somewhat reasonable.
So first they fucked up my order (gave part of my order to someone else) thereby making wait for another 15-20minutes while they cooked up a replacement (and gave me some weird eye roll when I asked them about it).
But then I had a massive hair in my fish, just about gagged while eating. And I could tell the dirty hipster in the kitchen it came from.
And otherwise the flavour did not live up to the hype. It's just fish and chips.
Never again.

People who used eBay as a business caught CRAs attention a few years back. Government went to court to get records from eBay of users that made over $1k a month. So now eBay collects taxes.

USA eBay has been doing it for years state to state…
Canada forced eBay to do it starting July 1… they sent an email out beforehand to all users announcing it.
It’s truly despicable that there’s no accounting for goods being used or not.
Just wait, FB Markeplace will be next… government HATES that so many goods are changing hands online.

But damn ... there are decent used stuff online and then there are those who do business ... isn't there a way to tax those who do over $X per month vs. the little guy.
back in the day, sellers used to charge taxes of their own accord when they were honest and reported to the CRA, they would post their GST # in the posting IIRC.
that's b/c some ppl would charge taxes and pocket it and didn't have a GST # :lol
but some ppl would only charge you taxes if you were in the same province as them.
i wonder if my seller is in china - are taxes still applied on ebay.ca?

08-14-2022, 07:26 PM
It’s not even charged if your seller’s ship from location is American… it’s up to customs when it comes in shipment wise
Some China sellers drop-ship from local warehouses though, so have to be conscious of where the “item location” is I think.

Have we talked about this? Automatic tip suggestion on machines. Really hating to have to tip 15% to just grab a coffee and a pastry and go. I mean there are like 3 extra steps in order to tip 10% ... how about putting 10% as a suggestion? Oh ... and the % is always the total which includes the GST/PST.

Why the fuck is their a tip function at liquor stores?

I'm probably what some would consider a soft-hearted person in general and it bothers me a LOT to have to push buttons and select No Tip options on payment terminals, especially at pretty much every fast food/take out place.
It adds so much negativity to the experience. I actually feel a sense of relief when a cashier turns the machine out toward me and it's just the food total and I have to tap.
The culture needs to change somehow.
Also when I was at Coachella the last 2 times it was held, they use Square terminals there and the No Tip option was a tiny button in the bottom corner AFTER tapping the "Custom Amount" button while the 10/15/20%+ options were these giant blocks... try figuring that shit out when you're wasted... literally stand in the drinks lineup watching everyone sway on their feet trying to poke something on a screen but just hitting a 15 or 20% button instead... and you're already paying $38usd for a vodka redbull or $14usd for a cup of beer. Yah they put so much care into pressing your cup into a tap lever for 5 seconds.
Just a way for businesses to make it appear like it’s cheaper, while subsidizing their offensively low wages through politeness or pity.

I have to admit, I tipped a clerk at a liquor store a few weeks back... was buying a 6 pack of Modelo and had an interesting conversation with him about Mexico and some stuff he was doing with underprivileged kids, felt like contributing in some small way to his endeavour
i wonder how tips work/get distributed at a BCLB store though

I still tip at the liquor store sometimes if the person helps me find something or is exceptionally polite. I just don't like the idea of it. I'd rather pay $22 for the 4 pack, and the guy behind me pays $22 for the same 4 pack meaning a reasonable business plan that pays it's employees.
Rather than I pay $22 and the guy behind me pays $20 for the same product.

68Style ... you described exactly the psychological manipulation behind this strategy. I wonder if it is the credit card company, the retail business, or the company that does the transaction that sets those preset %. Can a coffee shop say to VISA/MC, I like to have 10%, 12%, 15%, No Tip as options on my machines?
And don't get me started on Ubereats, DoorDash, etc. on their tipping options ... it feels like the suggested tip to driver start at like 20% on top of all the other admin, delivery, bullshit fees already added to your order. :flamemad:

We have decided on a no door dash/skip/uber eats policy in our household. I hope all these delivery apps fail miserably and bankrupt their investors in the process. They are just gouging small business and collecting money on the backs of labour that they don't even pay for.
Those machines can be custom set to anything you want. This pizza place I went to a couple times in North van had their tip options start at 20% and go up to 35. Fuckin idiots. It was already $35 for a large pizza.

I’ve also never ever used a food delivery app. I hate the concept / extra costs. My building is just a mess of takeout bags on a Friday or Saturday night… who the fuck orders a Five Guys milkshake for delivery and thinks that’s going to be any good when they get it?

sometimes these food delivery apps have a 30% promo and its actually cheaper to get delivery than to drive out yourself. Also when you sign up for uber eats premium, you get a lot of these 50% off coupons (i think like 5-7 of them?) and then you just cancel before the end of the month
But i agree, fuck these apps. Just abuse them when you can.

Yeah, I only use the apps for delivery for big corporate chain restaurants, and avoid them for independent places, as the discounts get passed down to the restaurant. When profit margins are so slim for restaurants, I can't imagine how they can eat 30% regularly from Uber Eats orders.

I'm firmly on the no-app train. I only order delivery from restaurants with their own delivery staff (the traditional places, like pizza and chinese).
I don't think many of types of food that you see on those app services really travels well anyways.

Nevermind the drivers, not all of them obviously but quite a few... I am often waiting at places and they just barge up to the front with their bag open yelling out their order number and the staff always have to gravitate toward them.
I also have the experience quite often of trying to order something and the terminal for an order app starts dinging away and their attention is drawn away from me to check what's on that and then back to me again.
Do the delivery apps still make you decide the tip% before the food even arrives? That's some serious intimidation if it's still the case (I believe it was with some of them).

I've only used Uber Eats once. Mainly because they gave me $30 off any order and I couldn't leave to pick-up as we were moving a bunch of stuff.
I had to tip when I ordered the food. And the tip was on the original amount, not the discounted. So I paid a $4 service fee, increased price for the food, and $7 tip at 10%. I barely came out ahead, even with the $30 promotional discount.
Never again.

My cc is supposed to give me a years free uber eats delivery fee, but whenever I try to activate it it doesn't work, I've contacted uber eats several times over it, but they're no help, so I don't use em
In the past I've used uber eats in Australia several times and the drivers often steal my food, they drove the opposite direction of where I am (probably drove home) and then marked my order "undeliverable"

Is there an option to pay at the door rather than up front?
That's another big reason I prefer the old fashioned way, if I don't get my food or my food is wrong then I won't pay.

Not that I could recall no, this was around the end of 2018 into 2019
iirc you only had the option to tip afterwards, but they had their free dinner so I guess they wouldn't care about a tip.
What pissed me off was the waste of time and the fact the places I ordered from were closed by the time everything was sorted out

Interesting to see so many negative opinions of food delivery apps. The market size for the food delivery industry is way too large to disappear now. Projected revenue for online delivery in 2022 is like +60b USD in US alone.
About margins... if restaurants operated their own delivery system, wouldn't that also cut into their margins similar to if they had went on a delivery app? They'd have to schedule and pay for their own drivers, gas, car mileage, insurance, etc. Also, doesn't food delivery apps increase the price of menu items on their platform so that when they take a slice, it isn't 100% on the restaurants? For example, a $10 item at a restaurant is priced $12 on UberEats so that 30% commission would be mean there is $9.1 for the restaurant (and not $7) which doesn't seem that terrible. I don't know how the math actually works out so maybe someone can clarify.
Ultimately, if the platforms weren't a fair deal for the industry overall, why is there such an overwhelming adoption by the restaurants voluntarily? For example, there is a small joint that I used to frequent and after they went on UberEats, their demand grew to the point they stopped picking up the phone during weekend evenings to solely focus on deliver app orders. I guess they figured its much more efficient for them; Putting other customers on hold, trying to decipher what customers are trying to order, answering questions, double-checking the order etc.. all requires so much more time than an app system. You'd never hear a peep from restaurants like above that are gaining net profit from the apps because why complain about a system that's working in your favor.

When I'm downtown, I usually use Ritual since there are no price markups (if there are you can report the error and be reimbursed). Mind you its just for pickup/takeout orders which saves time on my lunch break since I can order the food before walking to the restaurant. Not too sure what the cut/fees are for the restaurants using Ritual though.

90% of this food is garbage by the time it’s delivered.
If you think it’s favourable for the majority of businesses or workers, you haven’t really looked into any of the conversations or articles that have been put together about it over the last two years.
The systems were adopted because restaurants weren’t allowed to operate at full capacity, or at all in some circumstances.
Sit down with just about any restaurant decision maker that’s been stuck with dealing with delivery apps is that they are just handcuffed to them because people are so fucking lazy and want everything to just appear at their door. I don’t know why people are so in love with paying extra money for their food to be shittier just so they don’t have to put pants on and go 3 blocks away. Maybe because half the population has agoraphobia after the last 2 years?

Covid has definitely sped things up in North America, but food delivery systems were already widely adopted across Asia like a decade ago long before Covid. It was only a matter of time before it became mainstream here.

I think you have to respect the market for what it is. Consumers want what is the most convenient for them. Like if I'm busy doing something in the middle of the day and I want some food, its nice to be able to order something from a wide selection on the app. If I have to put on pants and take 30+ min to put an order in over the phone and then make the round-trip with my car, then forget it... I'll probably just make myself a quick sandwich. So in that sense, the app system is creating demand that's never existed before. This is also assuming you have a car; A lot of single and small families living the city don't even have a car. Am I expecting michelin star quality food? No...

The demand for takeout goes up, the demand for in person dining goes down, and with that, drink and na beverage sales drop, tips drop, and profitability drops.
It’s not just the cost percentages taken by a delivery app, take out containers, cutlery, etc all costs money, and if it’s not costing a lot of it, you can be sure it’s costing a lot environmentally.

Yes Ritual is awesome that way. You also get points pretty fast and I get $5 off a meal like every couple weeks.
Unfortunately looks like a lot of places are dropping off the App now as it doesn't seem to be as prolific.

Is it voluntary? There were issues a while back where restaurants were showing up on these platforms without their knowledge or consent.
Either way they're all exploitative as fuck. Same deal with Uber, AirBNB, etc. Creative ways for us poor people to screw over other poor people so some company can get rich with almost zero effort or risk.

People always slam Uber but I’ve honestly never had a driver who didn’t enjoy doing it. Or at the very least lied about it.
I’d say being able to set your own hours etc. is a pretty sweet gig for anyone in that line of work. Probably why so many cab drivers moved over

Let me breakdown the commission fees for these delivery apps, which may not include any app promotions that take away from the overall amount that gets deposited.
Note that the fee names may not be entirely accurate. For accounting purposes, a fee is a fee, I don't actually care all that much what kind of fee it is - at the end of the day it's a ___ App fee. Some of these apps charge a flat fee, others have a variable fee depending on number of orders, driver wait time etc.
Also the BC government now requires PST to be charged for delivery apps, which is another further cost for consumers lol.
DoorDash
Commission Fee - 24% of Pre Tax Sales
Delivery Fee - 11% of Pre Tax Sales
UberEats
Promotions - 18.1% of Pre Tax Sales
Service Fee - 14.7% of Pre Tax Sales
Delivery Fee - 7.1% of Pre Tax Sales
SkipTheDishes
Network Access Contribution - 25% of total sales
Payment Processing - $0.99/order (In Q2 - 3.68%, not bad but not great. Most merchants charge anywhere between 2.4% - 4%)
Fantuan
Commission - 20% of total sales
Creating an online ordering app
Startup cost is anywhere between 20K to 50K for a decent one
Commission fees are typically 10% flat or variable rate (this highly depends on which agency and your relationship with your account manager)

So what's the takeaway here?
Eating a recommended American diet, you are likely deficient in several vitamins and minerals, and supplementation is 'worth it'. Especially vitamin D, especially for people with dark skin in northern climates.
A high quality multi is probably worth taking for most people, since it's cheap and convenient. One that just has a good amount in high quality forms of the basics - ACE. A multi mineral would be worth taking at night, especially Mn (it really helps you sleep) and Zn. To be as uncomplicated as possible you can probably find it all in one. Probably will cost about $30-50 a year for a decent one.
