Has anyone ever come across a situation where you order something from Amazon and to find the package doesn't have the original factory shrink wrap and the product is missing inside?
For context, I ordered a pair of the Microsoft Surface Earbuds on Amazon.com during Cyber Monday while I was in the US. The shipment arrives, I open it up to find that the original shrink wrap was not present and the entire case and earbuds were missing.
I filed this to Amazon and went through the questions and got a return authorization with no option for them to replace it other than a refund. Curious to see how this panned out for those of you who has dealt with this before. Thanks in advance.
Was it shipped and sold by Amazon, and was it an open box and/or was the Amazon packaging tampered?
It's can be dicey if the item is sold by a 3rd party seller but fulfilled by Amazon. The worst I've seen so far is the seller packing a thank you note inside a box with by a promise that the actual item will be fulfilled soon. It was kind of sketchy but the seller followed through in the end.

I think it's too early to say whether I will get a refund or not. I've dropped off the return to UPS and has yet been received by Amazon. That is a crappy situation regardless.

Glasses as well. I was shopping for Ray Bans with fixed nose bridges and was told they make a version with a larger nose bridge for the Asian market because statistically, their noses are smaller.

I suspect carriers and drivers are going in and grabbing the contents.
While on the subject of Amazon, I ordered a Lisle Battery Carrier. Three attempts before I finally got one. Starts off in Richmond, then shows up in Ontario then Alberta to drop off the face of the planet. I called them and they kept sending one and crediting my account. A month after I received a replacement, the original "returned" and missing one shows up, but not really. They don't have the time to investigate.
BTW, the Lisle battery carrier is awesome. I was trying to get a battery out of a Smart Car. Almost impossible to get out, even with the built in handle. This thing makes it so easy to do. Too bad it showed up a few days late. Busted knuckles, scrapes and scars, and a whole lot of cussing, I did manage to get the darn thing out. I had my doubts about the thing, but it really makes carrying batteries around simple. I have batteries in my trailers for audio systems and whatnot. Need to drag them out for maintenance and replacing. So much easier. Made in USA.

The item I purchased is not an open box item. It was supposed to be brand new, in box, with the factory shrink wrap intact. When I opened up the Amazon box, I found the item I ordered was already opened.

Yes I've had that happen with a motherboard
I've also read that happening with other ppl on Amazon, sounds like they had a string of customer/employee thefts, this was during the beginning of the year or last year
I've also had clearly returned items sent to me as new.
Amazon is pretty liberal with returns though especially if you're a frequent/longterm customer

Go with Sonys WF's even the first gen ones are godly (tho 1st r chunky)
So, had this weather station sitting in the living room, waiting to be put up. I got sick of looking at it, so installed it today. Relying on weather forecast is pretty unreliable. Even when the weather is reported to be whatever, whatever, it never is accurate for all locations in your municipality. I mean Burnaby is pretty large.
A few weeks ago, I had damage to the balcony/patio due to high winds. Even during the high winds, it was reported as 35 kmph with wind gusts up to 50. Bullshit, it was at least 65 outside with gusts in the 70's to 80's. If I had known it was going to be that windy, I would have battened down the hatches and rolled up the shades on the sides of the patio.
This weather station reports, in real time, the wind, the temperature, and the humidity remotely. I can see the info on my phone.
https://www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop/garden/weather-measurement/weather-stations/110533-wi-fi-weather-station-with-wind?item=KD352&utm_source=free_google_shopping&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=shopping_feed&gclid=EAIaIQobChMItKum0O_y-wIVCQ2tBh1oiQ2GEAQYASABEgLVLvD_BwE
Now that I know how these things work, I should have bought the more complicated/expensive models (wind direction, rain gauge, barometric, etc.). I can add or upgrade sensors at any time, so I guess the initial cost was good to get me into it.

There are way better systems out there made by other manufacturers, but for the average home owner, this is good enough. And the price point is good.

who's good at this. I see a piece of camera equipment at KEH(web purchase) and it's listed there at $1000 US. I think they are physically located in Georgia state, if that matters.
what's this $1000 going to grow to once its at my door? obviously I know there's the dollar conversion, but after that it gets grey to me. taxes on both sides? duties, import fees? holy hell no idea.
If you ship to Blaine and bring it across yourself, you'd save the brokerage fees and courier cost. Declare it yourself and pay all duties and taxes. If the item is made in Mexico or the US, it's duty free. You just pay normal PST/GST taxes. If the company charges you state tax, then you have to pay for that, as well. Every state is different. There are shipping methods that include all fees. Costs more, but less hassles and will save you from doing all the extras. Have the company send you import/export papers. Yeah, it depends on the item. Whatever you do, don't say it is for a business. Personal use. I'm just spewing stuff out. Just to give you a broad idea as to what to expect. I kind of recall camera equipment as being not so bad as far as duties.............
I've purchased stuff from B&H Photo. Those guys are good. They know a lot about sending stuff to Canada for the least amount of money. I believe they have an agreement with some of the well known courier services. Quicker/cheaper ways of getting equipment into the hands of Canadians.

Expect to pay taxes and duties, if it doesn't happen, then bonus for you. Depending on the carrier, you may get hit with ridiculously expensive brokerage fees by companies like purolator, FedEx, UPS. Not sure if USPS/Canada post charge brokerage fees.
If you can, go with USPS/Canada Post. You just have to pay duties and taxes. No brokerage fees. Most companies avoid Postal Services.

I know you said forget about it, but I figured I'd provide some useful information for next time.
A good rule of thumb from my experience is to expect at a bare minimum, a 12% tax. You can then throw in your item into the CBSA calculator below to confirm.
https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel-voyage/dte-acl/est-cal-eng.html
I'm not sure how accurate the duties section is. I've brought back some automotive stuff three times in the past year that were made in non-CUSMA countries via the Point Roberts crossing and I never got charged duties and only taxes. The website says I should've been charged a 8.5% duties fee.
If buying anything internationally, always go for USPS/CanadaPost as there are no bullshit brokerage fees on top like UPS. If a website allows you to prepay for duties/taxes like B&H and Amazon Intl, then it wouldn't matter too much what the shipping option is.

My uncle is 60 years old now, has about $100K in RRSP. He retired, so $0 reported income. So if he withdrew $30,000 a year, which means $15,000 is taxable income (capital gains)? I don't have knowledge of taxes for investment income, but trying to get some knowledge of the basics what tax implications on the withdrawals. Like he doesn't want to withdraw money and get dinged heavily with taxes (ideally zero to minimal taxes).

$30K per year on a $100K RRSP nest egg? Does he plan to live for 3.5 yrs?
I'm no financial planner but not sure if that's good financial planning. Maybe take out $5000 per yr just as top up to CPP, OAS, company pension? Prob 0 or close to 0 taxes on that small amount of withdrawal.

Chapelle was always touted as the guy who walked away from his show and a big fat contract based on principle, now we see he's just the same type of clout-chasing social climber like any IG Influencer.
It's gross to watch.
It's also odd watching a nerd like Elon try so hard to be a part of this whole LA edge-lord comedy scene, dude wants to be in that celebrity world so badly. It's bizarre because this man is running a bunch of different companies, you'd think that would take precedence in his life.

Withdrawals from an RRSP plan normally have taxes withheld for taxes. His bank person would know enough to advise him to withdraw in smaller amounts (under $5k per withdrawal) to reduce the percentage of taxes withheld. But if he doesn't have much reported income, then they should mostly get refunded when your uncle files his next tax return.
He would get issued a T4RSP from that withdrawal and would get taxed on the full amount. No 50% capital gain since it's held in a tax sheltered account.
Your uncle would probably do best to minimize his taxable income to around ~$20k per year if he wants to get the maximum GIS.

It may have been experience talking.. the server had probably been asked for chopsticks before by Asians who she knew weren’t locals/regulars and perhaps thought it might be a nice touch? Probably should have asked though.. but you’re in Ft St John so that thoughtful level of service may simply not exist :lol
I’m a white guy and prefer using chopsticks for my calamari. I’ll go out of my way to ask for them when I order it.. Asian utensils for a greek dish makes perfect sense to me! BrokeBack
The pasta on the other hand.. if it was spaghetti that might raise an eyebrow. Penne, fusilli, sure. Anything you can pick at, why not? I like myself some chopsticks.
That said, pho noodles are lengthy and I’d never dip a fork in that delicious broth.
Interesting topic to discuss indeed.

Oh man. Our favourite local Chinese restaurant down at crescent beach is called Fong’s and they have a bunch of spicy options on the menu. Whenever we ask them to kick it up a notch, they’re hesitant to do so and it’s never quite spicy enough but still delicious. I’ve always thought they didn’t want to overdo it and risk a bad review but it remains as our go to. Still an awesome place though and I do highly recommend checking them out if anyone is in the area. Since covid hit they’ve shut down the seating area and only offer pickup or delivery as an FYI so grab a spot on the beach and enjoy.
We also have a local Thai restaurant where we’ll order Som Tum and they offer 5 different spice levels on the menu. After crushing level 5 we learned they also have “Thai spicy” which is off menu. The last time we ordered it our server said the kitchen staff were in tears while preparing it and they were thoroughly impressed when we finished.
Since then I’ve found a local grocer to grab our own green papaya and we test our limits by making it at home. No joke I have serranos, habaneros and birds eye/Thai chilies in my fridge at all times. Have some ghosts in there as well at the moment SeemsGood
What's worse is an Asian who doesn't use chopsticks properly. I'm left-handed. That is like a holy sin amongst asians. Not only that. I don't hold them correctly. I get strange, almost hostile, looks from other asians in a restaurant. Having said that, I'm really good at using the chopsticks. I mentioned this in another thread. At the church picnics, they would hold contests that involved moving soy beans from one bowl to another. I always won. Beat out those old ladies who thought a lefty was a devil's child. Since most Asian’s are racist as fuck, im sure it’s not easy being a white guy/gal in an Asian restaurant. When I take my work peeps out to dim sum, most of servers automatically bring out the forks / ice waters and have this very patronizing tone.
The look on the servers face when all these ghost faces are able to eat fried rice, in a bowl, with chopsticks is great. Kinda sad that this happens in 2022…I don’t get that wack ass look when I go to the keg and start using their barbaric fork and knife combo. Heathens!!!

I generally have a simple practice to go by ... chopsticks with bowls, fork/knives with plates. It is difficult to use chopsticks with plates. Part of the chopstick experience is the slurping out of the bowl.

What restaurant did you go to? I thought most of Vancouver knows pretty damn well that all white ppl in town can do chopsticks lol.

Keep in mind there are tiers of chopsticks.
Koreans generally use thin, metal chopsticks at home, and those are monumentally harder than wooden ones.
I took colleagues out to a Korean restaurant once, 2 of them asked for wooden takeout chopsticks and one went straight to a fork, lol.

For a guy who doesnt know jack shit about cameras or how to use one, what is a good starting point? costco used to sell DSLR packages but not anymore. It seems theres lot of these "mirrorless" cameras popping up everywhere and the Sony Alpha line looks pretty good.
For a complete dumbshit who wants to take some photos of his ratrolla and dogs, what is a good camera to get? i dont feel like blowing 10k on camera equipment either. if it can take pictures better than my iphone XR / 13 mini, id be pretty pleased.

I think you're better off with your cellphone camera for photos - the fancy cameras usually require a bit of post-processing to get the look that you want (lightroom / photoshop).
As a stopgap, maybe try an iPhone camera app with manual controls like Halide / ProCam? It'll be much cheaper than buying equipment and you might squeeze out better quality than the default iPhone app. And perhaps a polarizing filter to cut down on glare.

I agree with the guys recommending using a cell phone and using software to edit your photos.
I used to travel with a dSLR and my micro 4:3 Olympus but it just ended up taking too much space plus adding the opportunity of being robbed on travels. When and where I want to take more serious photos, I'll bring out the camera but since COVID, I barely touched it and it's just collecting dust. I would go further and say that the process of transferring files, editing them, uploading somewhere, storage, etc. takes up a lot of time, which is not something I personally have the patience for anymore.
If you want to just play around, then go for it. Otherwise, for travels etc. most modern phones like an iPhone XR or iPhone 13/14 will do the job.

On the other hand - a super compact mirrorless like the Fuji X-T series is kinda fun, and takes great pictures out of the camera (JPEG) and minimal post-processing. The Fuji cameras I find gives a certain "look" approximating their film (not that I ever shot film lmao).
The retro look is also a fun thing for travel/walking around town, and it looks very unassuming as well.

RAWs come out shit unless you edit them. If you have no experience using things like Lightroom on your desktop, just take pictures on your phone with Apple ProRaw enabled and then edit them afterwards with Afterlight, Snapseed, etc. It's pretty retard free and you'll get the best quality.
If you plan on making prints, taking for example my iPhone 12 Pro that is 12MP, it'll be around 250DPI~ for a 12x16 print. If you need to upscale for larger prints, I've had extremely good experiences using software like Topaz Gigapixel. If printing smaller, then not really a concern.

i wanted to buy a DSLR for a long long time but I'm just not that skilled in taking photos. I always wanted it to be a hobby, but im really lousy at it. Plus you gents are right, its bulky, annoying to carry around, and 99% of the time it'll just collect dust in the house. The only few times ill want to use it, i probably wont have it readily available.
I have an old S90 Canon sitting around, not DSLR but one of the better compact cameras that has manual control. Ill try messing around with that first.
I bought the iphone14 pro on launch day this year and after shooting a couple in raw, it didn't turn out very good (especially at night, when its not able to run at full 48mb and limited to 12mb). Still needed a ton of processing on the back end to make half decent results. I ended up returning the phone after 10 days.

For the night time issue, that's a physical limitation of the camera's sensor size. It'll always suffer more in low light vs. a DSLR because there is less light hitting the camera.
The reason iPhone shoots night mode at 12MP is because it does what is called pixel binning. It takes four pixels and combines it into one to present a cleaner looking image with less noise.
Most images taken at night will generally need more post-processing to bring it up to snuff. But without seeing your night pictures, I imagine that depending on the lighting available that even DSLRs might have issues without a proper setup. I've taken some pretty good shots at night with my old iPhone X - and that was before all the "neural network" and night mode settings were made available.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that a better camera will help, but it won't necessarily solve your issues.

Somehow I find it easier to frame a picture when taking it using a viewfinder rather than a phone screen. All the newer DSLRs are wifi-enabled too, so you can kind of transfer photos to your phone almost immediately.
The bigger DSLRs are for sure more annoying - but I've been shooting/messing around with the Fuji X-T series and the Canon RP and with the right lens (pancakes, primes) they are fairly unobtrusive and discreet.

Update: Amazon gave me a full refund for the return.

Signing somone up for 4 services with home phone and security even if they never use those services, for the same cost of retaining you as a customer with 2 of those services looks way worse on paper. As for being 'not allowed' to play Superman anymore, James Gunn is basically rebuilding the DC Universe from scratch and is writing a script for a younger Superman movie so it's not a role that's made for him.

Right it's just one side of the story, but I thought it was interesting to share. Saying that he left the show because it's not faithful to the Video Games, and to be Superman full time (when he was on a a per appearance deal) is obviously also one sided... He's made comments about women that he's had to apologize for, so it wouldn't be totally out of character.
Obviously the Superman rerereboot wasn't planned when they had him shooting cameos for Black Adam and Flash. So now he lost two big roles in a row, but he's getting a chance at redemption with his Warhammer stuff

It does read as very one sided, especially when there were lots of reports that he's a fan of the source content and wanted to stay true to it while the showrunners heavily disliked it and wanted to change everything. Which is naturally going to cause lots of conflict.
I'm definitely not going to start hating on someone because of a tweet of a partial screenshot of a podcast of an interview with an unnamed person.

I agree it's definitely one-sided there.
I love The Witcher and the showrunner turned the show into another girl-boss travesty. The last season barely had Geralt even in it. No, I don't want to watch a full season of Yennifer running around with no powers.
I sound redpill but something has to be said about these female directors coming in and wrecking established characters, it's a problem in multiple franchises.

Costco had full stock of dayquil/nyquil about 4 days ago, so try there.

This year is brutal for colds and flus.
The talk is that since we've pivoted off masks everyone hasn't been able to build up their immunity to the cold bugs running around this year, thus allowing the bug to spread itself easier, creating some pretty nasty respiratory issues this season.
I can attest to that, I never get colds and I've gotten two in the span of a month here, very bizarre.

Any tax accountants on RS?
Can I claim/submit a donation to a non-Canadian/US-based charitable organization against my tax return and be eligible for some kind of refund? Edit: Donation is made in US dollars. Can one convert the claim/submission to Canadian dollars?
Can provide more context if required. Thanks in advance!

Charitable organization does not have a Canadian address or office as it is US-based. I haven't made the donation yet as I am trying to get as much information as possible before I move forward (or not!) with the donation.

^ only exception or provision is if you make US income, then you can and get tax relief by donating to US charity. I assumed yours was a simple situation and that wasn't the case.
bcrdukes
12-28-2022, 09:15 AM
Unfortunately, no. No US income in this situation.
Backstory/context to this is I am looking to enroll into a course that is offered by a US charitable organization and the only way to do this is to make a donation in return for membership which then allows enrollment/access to their educational programs.
Given that we have only a few more days before the end of 2022, I'm looking to see how to maximize this opportunity (if at all possible) to claim the donation against my tax return for 2022. So far it doesn't seem feasible which is okay.

Ah, perfect. Thanks for this.
Based on the link and the information shared, it appears my donation (if you will) does not qualify as it is a US-based charitable organization with no ties to Canada or an address in Canada, nor do I earn US-based income.
For anyone curious, the charity in question is the Horological Society of New York. They offer educational classes on watchmaking at a highly subsidized rate for members. Members get priority access to their classes throughout the year and often have traveling courses offered by their partners. This is purely a hobby of mine and nothing more.
Their membership (aka donation) tiers start at $100 USD, $500 USD, and $1000, each coming with their own range of benefits and goodies. My intention was to donate as much as I could to take advantage of any tax refunds in 2022 while having the ability to register for their classes, and reap any benefit of goodies they offer.

Since unused donation credits gets carried forward, you can buy some dividend paying U.S. stocks so you can apply that U.S. donation credit in a future tax return.

If you don't care about the perfect finish, just clean the metal area with rubbing alcohol and then put touch up paint on it. As long as bare metal isn't exposed, it won't rust. I personally never use the clear coat.

Anyone deal with tenant insurance before?
Tenant's shower is leaking into unit below in a condo. Unit below is owned by an individual who noticed water damage on ceiling and walls. Owner of unit above is contacted to cover expenses to fix leak and damage to lower unit. Strata said they won't get involved because it is between the two units to sort it out.
Reason for leak is unknown but likely seeping to unit below via shower base (possibly via old/cracked caulking or grout). Part of the damaged ceiling of the unit below was cut out (has to be cut out anyways to get repaired) and looking in the ceiling cavity to see if the cause was a pipe leak, but the source of the water was not located (after multiple attempts of running water and waiting over the course of a few days). Who covers the cost if going through insurance and whos insurance is it (the owner of the unit above or the tenant of the unit above)?

Likely to be the owner, unless there's proof the tenant was negligent.

Couldn't one perceive that the tenant was indeed negligent since testing was done and the source of the leak couldn't be found; therefore, the tenant was negligent in whatever they were doing to cause water to reach the lower unit. Potential negligent acts could be those mentioned by donk

Turo sucks balls, hate that company. Rented from them quite a few times in LA and it's gotten so misleading just like AirBnB has (saying you have the "entire place" when you don't, etc.)
Last time in April this year, the car provider told me they can't pick up from LAX anymore like before (this is true) but they told me the car was a free bus ride away from the airport... it was NOT... I had to take a cab for like $25 to an empty industrial park with a technical college in it and I could see the car in the parking lot but couldn't find the renter... didn't want to activate my data because it would burn a day... but eventually had to and she was messaging me wondering where I was and had decided to go eat dinner with her boyfriend because she couldn't get a hold of me.
Well no shit I was late, my flight was delayed and I couldn't get to the place where the car was by bus like she claimed unless I dragged my suitcases 1.5 miles.
At least she was a super hot russian girl who could have been a professional model though... and she felt bad when I returned the car and drove me to the terminal for my departing flight. She told me her and her bf lease like 15 cars now and rent them on Turo and pay the college to park them in their empty parking lot and operate out of there. So shady.

I hate articles that leave out details. Like so did this guy make it to Whistler with the car in the end? Like I believe that the car ran like shit, but if it still got you to where you needed to go, fishing for "compensation" is a bit rich.
The big car rental places are no different with shit like this. I once rented a car from Enterprise and after driving a bit had smoke pouring out of the hood. Just booked a Maserati Levante via Turo for a LA trip. $600 for 5 days. The host I rented from is called LA Auto Spot and they have over 140 cars in LA. They had good revies on Reddit. They have a parking garage about 10 min from the airport. LAX will not allow Turo hosts to bring cars to the airport so we will have to Uber it to the Garage.
LA Auto Spot also have locations in 2 other cities including Houston. Turo has gone from peole just renting out an extra car they have to companies renting cars via Turo.

Any of my friends that are fans of Andrew Tate all have the same through line -- Generally unhappy with life, financially unstable, lack of women and/or solid girlfriends/relationships.
These guys tend to not be successful whatsoever with getting women so they blame "woke" culture and feminism as a result of that. No fuck head, it's because you're a loser and lack the charisma to talk your way out of a wet paper bag. As for finances, you're not broke or lacking a good job because women are in the employment market, it's because you suck.
Fuck Andrew Tate and these loser fucking incel dudes that subscribe to these grifter assholes.
The irony of the whole thing is that many of these people are QAnon folks, I thought they cared about "groomers" and sex trafficking? I guess it's only important if the person has Clinton or Biden in their last name? :lol

Usually when I go to Canucks games I always park in the same lot at Beatty and pender. 10 years ago it used to be $15 on game days, last year it was $22 or $25 or somthing
Went to the game tonight.. $33 fucking dollars till 6am, $55 for 24 hours
Fucj you impark you gross fucks.. it’s now 100% cheaper for me to Uber to and from the game than park there.
Was listening to Nat and Drew on Move this morning. They were chuckling about Celine Dion not being on the Rolling Stones' 200 All Time Greatest Singers List. LOL, Celine screams, not sing. That's what a music educator friend of mine once said. I replied with, "At least it's controlled screaming," gulolol.

Artists I've never heard of and some I genuinely always wanted to know more about. I just get Siri to play some of their music on the Home Pod Mini. Totally designed to get you interested or pissed off, gulolol................
I just wish they had a simple list of names. Is Anne Murray on that list?

I'm not a fan of impark either but its the land owner that sets the prices. Parking management services like Impark and Diamond may suggest prices and program the meters but the owner of the lot ultimately has the final say on pricing

I think Impark and other places like WestPark aren’t enforcing parking anymore like they used to. My downtown building used to have this troll that comes by and hands out tickets. Since I’m too lazy to put up the tag on my Camry, he would occasionally give me a ticket and then I just email them with my tenant code and force them to waive it.
Ever since the pandemic that dude is nowhere to be seen. I think they aren’t hiring those positions anymore or basically downgraded them so much they only a few select lots have enforcement. I’m always curious as to how many people would even pay those tickets as even if it goes to collections people wouldn’t pay.

^I thought most private parking lots are patrolled by guys in cars that have licence plate readers now. They just drive in and out of lots and scan the plates and then hand out tickets if there are any discrepencies.

It's typically the hot spots with the most traffic they will target. Like they ain't gonna really spend time patrolling a small lot with a few cars as it's not lucrative for the patroller. Eg. Can go to downtown Costco lot, can make a killing with tickets in one go LOL.
It's cheaper to change your plates than pay these tickets.

FWIW, my work uses Indigo parking.
I started at this current job about 2 months ago and while the receptionist gave me the approval to use the parking lot. I realized I never actually gave her my plates yet.
I've been parking at the lot everyday for work just to see if I'm going to get a ticket. (I know I'll get reimbursed anyway if it happens)). But so far... no tickets yet.

Also last month, I paid at Impark, and they still gave me a ticket. I was able to dispute it easily, but I guess the system has technical glitches?

question for you electricians or home reno guys
i have 3 small appliances i want to put in the same place. my coffee grinder, espresso machine, and kettle.
grinder is only 260w, espresso machine 1000w, and kettle 1500w.
i won't be using them at the same time, but just wondering how to best plug these in that would not cause any problems?
to add complexity to it, i want to put the espresso machine on a wifi plug.
so i'd probably put the kettle into one receptacle on its own, then consider maybe putting a 3 plug multi plug into the other receptacle and plugging both the wifi plug and the grinder into that.
will i die? y/n

If it's the big parkade at Beatty and Pender, that's Easypark. The land and building is owned by city of vancouver, so they set the price and enforce the tickets.
The parking companies have lost so much revenue from having no big events for a year or more, plus way less daytime office workers, they are probably attempting to make up the difference now by charging a lot more during evening events in order to stay solvent.
Almost 20 years ago I worked in RE and we owned and leased a building and gave one f the parking lot contracts to Impark.
A few days later some guy from Impark shows up and gives the execs a VIP card that allowed them to park at any Impark lot in North America for free. There were lots of exemptions attached to that card I am sure, but this day I am still jealous they got those.

Kitchen counter plugs should be on their own circuit so a grinder and espresso on 1 and the kettle on another should be fine
As long as they aren’t all going at the exact same time should be fine even on the same outlet I’d think

Make sure the Wifi plug is rated for the current draw/wattage.
I bought some wifi plugs a while back and found out the hard way they were only rated for 900w. I used one on my space heater in the greenhouse, and it turns out they were internally fused for 900w. The fuse was not serviceable, and so the thing was basically trash.
Make sure your multi-tap power cord is at least 14awg or better.
I have my 970W toaster, 1500W kettle and 1075W drip coffee machine on a short 3 plug 14awg power bar. (My kitchen receptacle is 20A). They're never all on at the same time either so it's never been an issue. Even when I have run the toaster and kettle at the same time, the toaster isn't on long enough to cook the power bar or trip the breaker.

So, I've seen these latest news reports about the shitty conditions at the SRO's. They always show this pictures of the gross washroom conditions like this:

And pointing at the landlords like it's their fault it's that way.
Like I understand if plumbing's not working that should be the landlord's responsibility to fix, but if toilets, sinks and bathtubs looking like biohazard zones seem to be the result of junkies not cleaning after themselves and caring for their living area.
Or is it the landlord's responsibility to clean the washrooms for them?

Yea that’s how I felt when I saw the news story today.
The guy who lived there giving the interview was walking down the halls and every utility door is double padlocked, the electrical panel had a huge pad lock on it, there’s garbage on the floor in the hallway, and then he goes to the bathroom where the tank of the Toilet had obviously been smashed/stolen, bags of garbage in the bathroom etc.
You guys with free downtown accommodations need a bathroom attendant now?

Extensions are not recommended because people buy the dollar store ones with thin wires. Thin wires + "high" amp pull + long extension = possible fire.
We do ghetto shit at work that's way under code, but that's for like temporary tool power, never had a fire. Think 300ft of 14/2 and a 15A tool lol....

News outlets pumping out garbage, because they know 75% of the population will sob and feel bad to get clicks and views
I do repairs in the meth unions, including snaking the shitters and or sewer mains
95% of the issues, are dirty panties, needles and who knows what dumped down the drain.
Stolen "components" for their "gadgets" is very common, toilet mechanics, valve handles, mirrors, literally anything they can rip off.
You should see the kind of art they draw on the walls..... Racism, sexism, kkk stuff, bestiality, I got pics on my phone but that's for internal group chats only lol
If you took that photo, and renod the bathroom to a decent condition, it would be "destroyed" within 48hrs
This applies for many common washrooms, with that being said, some areas are worse and some are actually in great condition
Then there's the topic of in suite washrooms..... Again, it's dependant on who is living there. Some are kept clean, and some are...... Well.... Absolutely disgusting, I'm talking fruit flies, mold, pile of expired food, walls are yellow from smoking? shower used a a recycler for beer cans, literally anything you can think of
This is not a landlord issue, it's a user issue
Icing on the cherry is that some of these SROs are in False Creek / Mt Pleasant area, you can't even tell it's an SRO from driving by
I feel for the people that got unlucky, disabled, or time and place did not work out for them. They are truly trying to move up in life and this is their stepping stone.
But for the other half smoking meth, breaking into cars, multi ambulance call outs for the same person in 8hrs, and draining society, I could care less

Modular housing is not bad. What I think this illustrates is that some of the individuals who live in tents don't have the capacity/etiquette/life skills to live independently even if you give them decent housing.

That should work fine, my only issue with those things is when you plug in 3 heavy power cords the only thing supporting it all is the tension of the wall receptacle on the splitter's plug prongs, and they can get a little loosey goosey which can lead to bad/arcing connection (especially if the wall receptacle is a little worn out).
I like these ones a little better because they screw into the receptacle and are way more secure:
https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/715M+rE7C9L._AC_SX679_.jpg
https://www.amazon.ca/GE-54946-6-Grounded-Outlet-Adapter/dp/B000R0G390/ref=sr_1_5?crid=6N5HLRF858ZX&keywords=ge%2Boutlet%2Bsplitter&qid=1673021477&sprefix=ge%2Boutlet%2Bsplitter%2Caps%2C127&sr=8-5&th=1
if i put all 3 appliances into that then would it work so the top 3 are connected to the top receptacle and the bottom 3 on the bottom one? since like honda said, kitchen plugs are usually on separate circuits, would the kettle on one row and the smartplug and grinder on the other row be the way to do it?
Hondaracer
01-06-2023, 07:42 AM
*each separate outlet should be on a separate circuit, so like the one double wall plug is on its own, not the top/bottom of the same outlet
That’s also presuming it’s up to that standard
Great68

IF your receptacles are in fact wired for split-circuit, then yes that's correct.
The electrical code changed in 2018 and it's now more common that kitchen counter receptacles are fed from a single 20A circuit (You can tell this if your receptacle is a T-slot style)
Either way you'll be fine.

Per code you can have up to two kitchen outlets on one 20A Single pole breaker, or one 15A 2-pole breaker (Split circuit)
