I thought there was a BBQ thread, but hey this works too.

I just "cleaned up" my BBQ for the season. Wife is pretty adamant that we are to be done with BBQ this year.

The BBQ was a little crusty from the leftover bits, so I cleaned it all off and fired it up one more time to burn off any other leftover grease. A week later I opened it to check it out and found that there's surface rust where there wasn't before. What do I need to do to prevent that? Oil it? It sits in a covered patio so it doesn't get rained on.

Starting to think I should have left the grease one and cleaned it in the spring instead.

Is avocado oil neutral enough? Almost want to scrub the rust off and just take the grill racks inside and just leave the shell outside.

Avocado oil is good, after you apply it heat the grills up a bit, That will polymerize the oil onto the grills.

Yeah, I bought 4 Vewlix clone arcades off of Alibaba. I've attached a post detailing my experience.

Most sellers on Alibaba will not sell a single unit as they have a minimum requirement. Depending on what the item you are buying is and if it's common, there might be some sellers that would be willing to ship you just one or two of the items. If you can find it on Aliexpress or Taobao, I'd recommend you get the item there.

If you do decide to go with Alibaba, you probably want something like DDP where the seller will be responsible for the entire process to get the item to your door. Mine was EXW, so the seller made the goods available at the factory and I coordinated with PCB to get the items to Canada.

https://www.meadowswye.com/resources/incoterms.htm

Just wanted to post about my experience importing a Chewlix into Vancouver since I've had some people ask about how I imported mine.

I spent about a week talking to various Alibaba suppliers until I found one that made the "good" clone of the Vewlix with the rotatable screen - Guangzhou Funzone Electronic Co. Ltd.

This is the link to the cabinet - https://www.alibaba.com/.../32-inch-HD-coin-operated... on their Alibaba website.

After speaking to an English rep (Monica) for a good week or so finalizing all the details of the build (body and trim colours, joystick and button colours, screen type, etc.) I sent the initial payment via Alibaba Trade Assurance on March 17, 2022.

I paid with a credit card, so I got hit with an extra 2% fee from the seller as well as a 3% foreign transaction fee (my credit card didn't have this benefit anymore - RIP the old Amazon credit card that they had in Canada). I did a credit card payment knowing the fees since I've never made an order on Alibaba before and I figured it would be easier to do a chargeback if the machines were defective, something went wrong, etc. It seemed like a small price to pay for the "insurance".

Once payment was sent, I just waited for the next month or so until Monica informed me the goods were packing on April 19, 2022 - relatively fast given Chinese cities were going under lockdown. Between the payment and packing dates, I kept in touch with Monica on a weekly basis as she confirmed things with me.

While this was going on, I had to find a logistics company to help me organize bringing in the cabinets to Vancouver. I settled on using PCB Freight as a few friends recommended them to me. They had a local office and I kept in touch with them throughout the process and informed them when the cabinets were ready to be picked up.

On April 25, 2022, the cabinets were picked up by Everokgroup International Forwarding. The cabinets were then picked up and stored at one of their warehouses until it was loaded onto a ship that departed China on May 10, 2022. On June 1, 2022, the ship arrived in Vancouver.

The next part was customs clearing. I opted to clear customs myself since PCB charged $250 CAD for the service. On June 7, 2022, I took the proper documents to my local CBSA office where I was charged only 12% taxes on the value of the cabinets. Note that this can only be done once the cabinets are unloaded from the container, loaded into the warehouse, and the logistics company (CTC Logistics in my case) sends the necessary information to CBSA.

With customs all handled, I sent the forms to PCB, and the cabinets were delivered to my house the following day on June 8, 2022. Note that I could've saved $150 USD if I picked up the cabinets myself from the warehouse, but I ended up deciding to save myself a headache (I didn't necessary want to rent a box truck and drive one) and had them deliver the cabinets to my home.

I bought four cabinets and all arrived in safe condition. I did four because it seemed like a reasonable amount for the inventory risk vs. cost savings. From initial calculations, shipping for one would've been around $1400 CAD, but I paid about $2810 CAD for four making it about $700 each - half the price if I ordered just one. I was pretty confident that I'd be able to sell the other three at the time of ordering and I've since sold two with one still up on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace (both of the cabinets were sold via a post I made last week in this group).

Attached to this post is an image of all costs I had to pay broken down by payment receiver and the associated line item as well as a picture of the cabinet in its new spot running SFV off a PC.

Long post, but if you've read this I hope that it helps you or someone else in here get your Chew on.

has anyone bought anything off Alibaba before? My understanding is it's mostly for bulk purchases but some stuff is listed way cheaper on there than anywhere else.

I have bought t shirts, electric lighters, car wrap and metal posters

Reviewed below, all companies had the 7 year or more age, with whatever their "approved" company ratings are as per Alibaba.

T shirts, with custom logo, ordered 1 sample from three different companies, complex logo. Each shirt was like 20$ plus the shipping. (Higher cost due to only one being made)
The three samples I would say were 2/10, 6/10, 8/10.
One shirt showed up with these white mini fibers all over it, as if some dude picked it out of his overstock, slapped on a logo, and shipped it out. I ended up giving the company a 1 star rating, for the 2/10 t shirt quality.
The sales rep messaged me instantly, begging to change my rating or she would lose her job, and that they could offer a refund if I increase my rating. Why the fuck would I let anyone else waste their money on this company, and why the fuck did you not check the t shirt prior to sending it out.
Ended up ordering 50 t shirts from one of the other companies, got dinged with hefty duty fees locally

The electric lighters with custom logo, i ordered a single sample from one company, cost me like 60$ or so (single print fee)
I ended up ordering another 200 units.
They were quality stuff.

The 24x36 metal prints that I ordered were from three different companies.
Garbage. Absolute garbage.
One of them, the print literally missed a small corner, and they just glued on a color to match.
Cheap metal, thin and flimsy.

Ordered a single roll of carbon fiber wrap, this was good quality, lasted me 3 years on my car.

What I learned:
Yes you can get singles.
I would highly suggest always getting samples.
Most of the stuff is garbage.
You get what you pay for.
Communication is good, shipping is easy.
Don't use a normal email, Alibaba companies trade emails with each other like spit in a swingers party.
The prices you see, are generally for MASSIVE orders, to get you click on their listing, then the truth comes out. It's all clickbait.
Duty fees take away all your "savings" vs buying locally, always use USPS if possible

Thanks.

I was not expecting much. But it's actually very well done.

One sentence struck me hard "I compare harm reduction to this, let's do a drunk driving program, and if we are gonna do proper harm reduction, we have to teach people how to drive drunk".

Shows how ridiculous many liberal ideologies are. What they are proposing is not compassion or care for those people. But simply a fucked up way of saying "oh... yes, we are doing something".

I've said it many times before... when we do something so superficial just to satisfy our illusion that we are actually helping those in need... we aren't making things better.

Thanks guys, I'm looking at a snorkel for my Jeep and they're $40 US + shipping each on Alibaba or $170+ CAD delivered everywhere else. I found one seller that allows quantities as small as 2 (with a price drop for 10+) which works well since I have a buddy who wants one too. I'm just not sure if it'll be a huge hassle or full of hidden costs that end up making it not worth it.

i use aliexpress not alibaba

-things can take a very long time, 3months+
-you need to keep an eye out on your insurance time, i think it's like 45 days to file a complaint? i tend not to listen to the sellers that just say please wait and do no action as i think they just want the time to run out, some will extend the time based on delivery, those are the ones that actually sent something
-quality is what it is, i've bought mostly clothes and 'lego' and small electriconics/knick knacks. it's basically night market with long lead time.

Hi everyone,

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but wanted to get some outside perspectives from those more knowledgable than me about automobiles/motors.

TLDR: Local shop says our Grand Vitara needs a head gasket @ $2200 labor + parts/machining (tbd tomorrow). Any recommended shops near Port Moody/Coquitlam who I can get a second quote from? Other things to check or consider before replacing?

Longer: We have a 2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara, 2.4l 4 cyl, owned for 6 years, has 170k. 9 months ago, we had a shop near us diagnose a coolant leak. They found the radiator had given up and we had them replace it.

On Thursday, as I parked at work, white smoke started coming out from under the hood. Turned the car off. Noticed some residual coolant on top of the rad, but couldn't tell where it had come from. Coolant was down to the low mark.

Had the car towed to the same shop as I thought it could be related to the radiator they put in. They said on the phone it would be $150-200 to diagnose, and if it was a problem with the rad, a replacement would be covered, but we'd have to pay labour.

After the long weekend, they called and said they think they found the problem(s): thermostat, rad cap, and rad cap adapter. They said along with a coolant flush we should be good. $750 including the diagnosis. Probably a bit high, but I'm limited on time/transportation options so we go ahead.

Today, they call back to say they completed everything, but discovered coolant in the spark plug wells, thus pointing to the need for a head gasket. (There was one other thing here that made them think the parts they replaced didn't fix the problem, but I can't recall exactly what that was. Something during the coolant flush I believe.)

They said labour alone will be about $2200, plus parts, plus fluids, plus anything else they find along the way, plus machining. And that there is a risk they find the head is cracked once they get inside. He mentioned replacing the motor as an option at a ballpark of $6200 - which is approaching value of the car anyways.

Just looking to get some perspectives on the quote, other considerations we should be making, or suggestions for a shop to get a 2nd quote from in the tri-cities.

Thank you!

what shop is this? do they even have good reviews? Im just shaking my head at everything theyve done. Doesnt sound proferssional to me, sounds like they are ripping u off. Im so glad i work on my own cars myself.

If the radiator they put in is defective. They will replace it but u have to pay for labour? does that even make sense. Theres a reason why shops only use parts theyve bought or approve of so they dont do the job twice if the part is faulty.

Thermostat, Rad Cap(isnt that like 2 seconds to replace), and Rad Cap adapter for $750?

Now they are saying its ur headgasket? i would say fuck it and cut ur losses. Get ur car back, drive it and see if any problems persist

Yeah, IMO their diagnosis should have been a bit more thorough. They shouldn't have done all that radiator work and then found the coolant in the spark plug wells.

To give you an example of what a good shop would do:

A few years ago the fuel pump on my Sonoma gave up the ghost (not bad after 20+ years of service). The truck would only run for a few minutes and stall out, I could audibly hear the pump stop working and could see the fuel pressure drop. But when you cycled the key, it would kick back on for a minute.

Changing the pump involved dropping the tank, which was full, and not a job I really cared to tackle on my back in my driveway. So I took it to Marigold auto which is like 2 blocks from my house. It died 5 times on the way. Told them about the fuel pressure drop and that I could hear the fuel pump die, but I let them "diagnose" it themselves.

So, they took the truck in and later that afternoon they called me and told me they diagnosed that it was the fuel injection spider that went bad and that it was going to be $1800 to fix. I said "are you SURE? Like I could HEAR the pump die and the truck shut off, but ok if that's what you think it is".

Next morning they call me:

"Well our mechanic was doing some thinking overnight and re-tested it this morning and yeah he thinks it's the fuel pump"

Me: "OK that's what I thought"

Them (and here's the important part) "we wouldn't have charged you if we changed the other part and that didn't fix the problem". "The fuel pump will be only $900 to do"

Port Moody Auto and Air. Nearby where I live, making it possible to walk home/walk back when needed. They have reasonable reviews - 4.1 Google and 4.6 Facebook.

The 3 things they did was in addition to diagnosis and coolant flush. So $150ish diagnosis and maybe $150ish coolant flush? So 450 for the cap, adapter and thermostat. High, yes. I'll see the breakdown when I pick up the car. OEM suzuki parts at least.

Should I be driving it though if they just found coolant in the plug well?

Yeah, IMO their diagnosis should have been a bit more thorough. They shouldn't have done all that radiator work and then found the coolant in the spark plug wells.

Thanks, agreed with your note about a more thorough diagnosis - especially if it was as simple as pulling the spark plugs. Would a leak down/compression tell us anything further before taking things apart?

Glad you had a good experience that place and wonder if there are any places like that near me.

A family member lent us a vehicle, so we aren't as pressed to get it fixed as quickly as possible. My mechanically inclined uncle is considering taking it on, but is in Vancouver and has some other things going on that may not give him the time for a while.

cap, adapter and thermostat with a discount should be $50. i know they are trying to make money so i can see them charging u $150... maybe $200 but $450? jeez.

Are u prepared to spend $3500+ for everything they wanna do to ur suzuki? With how they are doing everything, i wouldnt trust them. They sound like the type of shop that fixes what they "think" is wrong with the vehicle and if it doesnt fix it, charge the customer anyways and then go try and fix something else.

Tell them to blow the spark plug well dry(they should have done that already) Then u can monitor it urself. Its extremely simple and it takes a minute to do if u do have a 10mm and a sparkplug socket and a flashlight. If the coolant comes back then go from there.

edit* sounds like u like ur vehicle but u dont want to dump a crap load of money on it, id try using headgasket fix in a bottle first. Some people think they are alll snake oil products and some are. But some actually do work. $50 vs $3500+, i would atleast try it.

That was my thought as well. Did they just find existing coolant, or are they actually observing coolant appearing in there after cleaning it up and running the engine? Because they might just be seeing some coolant that was spilled there by the leaks or during the work that was done.

I think I'm leaning towards just picking up the car and finding another place, and either re-diagnose or follow the things others have been saying here. We do like the car - although have a new vehicle on order that should be arriving in the next 6 months. Obviously I want it to last us until then, and also be able to sell it when the new car comes if possible.

I can ask them to blow it dry if they haven't and will monitor. Would this be a 5 min of driving kind of thing, or an hour?

I know a really good shop but it's in Poco if you're willing to go that direction. I've been going there for years and take all my vehicles there.

PM me if you're interested.

Thanks, will PM you!

That was my thought as well. Did they just find existing coolant, or are they actually observing coolant appearing in there after cleaning it up and running the engine? Because they might just be seeing some coolant that was spilled there by the leaks or during the work that was done.

I can ask when I pick the car up.

any foam in the coolant tank?

Not reported and I did not look, I can ask though. Would this be in the reservoir?

Side note: they say the car is drivable as it is now if I want to take it home (about a 3 minute drive). Should I just be monitoring the temp gauge as I drive? Anything else to be aware of to know it's time to pull over?

Thanks again everyone for the help/advice

Story doesnt add up, im sure the shop didnt want to do a 'free' appraisal for him cause

12% tax on a $4000 vehicle is $480
12% tax on a $1200 $180

its a $300 difference, im pretty sure the buyer realises if he pays a shop to appraise it, theres a good chance he will just end up even or paying more after its all said and done.

If this is a thing, I sense a great business opportunity. What is the qualification for doing a valid appraisal? If a licensed technician is all that's required, maybe setup a platform (a la AirBNB/Turo) but for car appraisals.

Yah, that's what I was thinking ... pay for a $150 appraisal which is about the same for an inspection report, I'm guessing, to save $300 in taxes? Not to mention the time it takes for you to arrange an apt, bring it in, and pick it up. Just not worth the hassle.

I called Honeybee Centre to remove a big wasp nest I had. A girl came out, captured the queen and removed the nest.
For smaller nests around my house I've used wasp spray or just a water hose to get rid of it. For your situation, you definitely want to call someone in :-)

Wilson One Shot

https://www.homedepot.ca/product/wilson-oneshot-400g-wasp-and-hornet-spray/1000410968

Kills on contact. It reaches far.......... would win all pissing contests.

I had wasps/yellow jackets in the soffits just outside the garage. They had built a home under the soffits. I spayed the ones coming out of the opening and sprayed a shitload into the hole. I then covered up the hole and edges of the soffits with silicone. After a few minutes and for the next two or three days, I saw others trying frantically to get in. I guess I closed up all entry points to their nest. I feel like a mass murderer of living organism. Not a good Buddhist, I'm afraid.

I got attacked by a swarm of them a few years back. They built a nest under the tarp that was covering rotten fence boards. I pulled back the tarp and was hit by the swarm. After running for cover, I got stung 7 or 8 times. all in the head. Went to walk-in clinic where they pulled out three or four stingers. Some allergic reaction, but lucky they didn't sting me near the eyes. Fucking vile creatures from hell.

underscore
10-17-2022, 10:21 PM
I second the Wilson stuff. After we had the roof redone a bunch ended up evicted from in there so they tried rebuilding all over the place. In the fender of my RX7, in the fence, hanging from the soffits, hell even in a pile of dirt in the yard when I was building the patio. It turns out pounding on giant patio stones to level them will make wasps come out and investigate lol.

Every time I brought out the spray it left no survivors. Shooting horizontally the range was probably 15 feet or so? Maybe closer to 20. Ideally you want to spray the nest down at night since they'll all be in there.

Ugh. Then you might try the SIM cards they sell in those gas stations. Eruhhh I can’t recall which one but I think their equivalent 7/11 or something carries local SIM cards that’s prepaid. Give one of those shops a call and they can direct you

He mentioned earlier in a post where his phone was too old and not compatible with eSIM. He needs a physical SIM card.

@SkinnyPupp - eSIM is the same as a regular SIm except it's an electronic type of SIM card that gets downloaded onto your phone over the Internet without a physical card. A good example of this are Apple Watches and similar wearable smart watches that use eSIM. The latest iPhone released last month in the US is eSIM only.

I throw on the factory indoor cover that came with my Boxster while it's in storage. I moved to Mississauga in 2020 so I decided to rent a space over the winter as we were in between fall and winter. At risk of losing the storage space, I drove the car over to the storage facility and forgot the cover as it was still packed in God knows which box. Low and behold in the spring, it was dirty AF.

Try to get a good one with a good fabric as you still need the car's paint and the material to breath over the winter and while stored in the garage. I would not recommend a non-breathable material as it could trap moisture and cause long term problems in the end.

It’s just for a few weeks that the rain is here. I never used the cover for the maz before so I wasn’t going to use it for this Corolla either but I’m getting lazy and don’t want to wash the car.

It gets a bit dusty sitting in the garage for a few weeks. But I’d be worried about moisture/mold/bugs as you guys pointed out. Thanks for the tips.

ICBC discounts if you drive less than 10,000km/yr coming in 2023. Nice.

You may be eligible for the discount if you:
Drive less than 10,000 kilometers per year
Provide two odometer readings a year apart, as proof of your driving distance
Have a 12-month Autoplan policy with ICBC optional coverage
Have a vehicle within an eligible rate class. Although most vehicles are eligible for this discount, some are not, such as motorcycles, motorhomes and collector vehicles. Talk to an Autoplan broker to find out if your vehicle is eligible.

This is a new tier - the original tier was up to 5,000km/yr and this one goes up to 10,000km/yr. I do about about 8,000km/yr so I'll qualify now - probably just 5% I'd guess but I'll take it.

When you say a few weeks, are you planning to take it back out in the winter?
Rain is probably going to last longer than just a few weeks, if not snow from the winter.

But as someone mentioned earlier, you should wash the car before putting on a cover, cause the cover can end up scratching the car. Washing the car is kind of inevitable. Don't take this the wrong way... but for a guy that cares enough to cover a corolla from dust, it also seems contrary you also don't care enough to wash the car, lol.

I usually just wash my car and keep it parked in the garage uncovered. It accumulates a fine layer of dust after a while, but it's also a car and it's not going to harm it?

@badhobz, have you used waterless/rinseless wash products like Optimum No Rinse (https://optimumcarcare.com/product/optimum-no-rinse-wash-shine1) before? This might be the easiest way during the winter to wash your car. I can bang out a wash in 20 mins with it and I do it in my garage. If you fill a 5 gallon bucket with it you could use it for 3-4 washes easy especially if it's just dust/light dirt on the car (I use a Big Red Sponge).

Optimum says its safe for wrapped cars including matte colours (https://www.optimumforums.org/topic/63185-no-rinse-a-vinyl-wrapped-vehicle/)

It will feel really weird using it because the way you use it goes against everything you've been taught about washing cars. I use the Big Red Sponge (https://carzilla.ca/products/optimum-big-red-sponge) and I was always told not to use sponges on paint but, damn, it works! Just drag that sucker over my paint and there's no scratches or marks at all.

It's been a few years since I started using ONR and I still can't believe it works.

It's also a great general purpose product - it can clean windows and your interior, it works as a clay lube etc.

but wait a minute,

so you got this big tub of water + optimum and then you dip said sponge into the bucket, wash the panel/area and then you.....

REDIP IT INTO THE BUCKET!? doesnt that water bucket get dirty in like 2 seconds and arent you just washing your car with literally the equivalent of a hobo squeegee at this point? how does this not scratch the paint ? all the particles/dirt on the sponge will surely leave marks doesnt it?

That's exactly how it works if you use a Big Red Sponge (BRS) and it's crazy. The way it works is that ONR has these polymers in it that encapsulates the dirt and when you put the sponge back in the bucket the dirt releases from the sponge (give it a couple good squeezes) and sinks to the bottom. Swear to god it works.

If you don't use the BRS (or its cousin, the Big Black Sponge which is for those who like it "bigger and blacker") then you can use 5-6 microfibre cloths per wash and don't dip those back in the bucket.

Edit: If you want to try some out I can drop off a little bottle for you next time I'm in Richmond (as long as the earthquake and flood hasn't shown up). I've got a gallon jug of the stuff.

I haven't moved cars from Seattle to LA specifically... but prices have doubled in recent years for transpo in the USA, especially if you want enclosed... you're gonna pay $2500 easy. I can't imagine why anyone who isn't a sheik would do this.

Just go on Turo and find something equivalent to rent instead.

I am also in a condo and have had multuple cars for long periods of time in storage... if it's a newer place I wouldn't be too worried about mice at all... they tend to hang out more by the garbage rooms than anything car related.

I just unplug my negative battery terminal to preserve the battery... I've had good results trying to stick to a fairly regular start-up schedule, running to warm once a week... if I leave cars sitting for a long long time without running them at all, you get a lot of issues start creeping up.

Honestly in a condo setting, I don't really see the point of using a cover. I used to cover my 68 Mustang but not anymore... yes after 6 months it gets dusty and I need to wash it, but the ease of access and not being scratched by the cover itself trapping stuff makes up for it in my opinion. Covers are more for outside with sun and whatnot I feel.

For the last few years, I never started it up once fuel stabilizer was in, remove battery and put it on a tender. The last 5 years it started up with no issues at all, knock on wood. But it was garage stored where it was warmer.

Yeah, the dust wouldn't bother me anyways since I wash and re-wax/seal ever year anyways.

Now that the weather is colder, we are starting to turn on the heat. We have in-loor hydronic radiant heating but noticed that it's not heating up the entire area. There are certain "deadzones" such as the bedrooms. Is there maintenance required for this tyep of system and are there solutions other than ripping up the flooring to replace the tubes?

Same, I actually don't start up my car at all.
I've read this is actually not good unless you're able to actually drive it and warm it up. If not, don't just let it idle and turn it off, that's worse.

My car's stored in the garage, but I leave the hood open. I figured that would actually make mice not want to hide there since it's not an enclosed space.

It is far better to start your car up periodically, even if it doesn't get to operating temps, than it is to sit.

Keeps oil in the bearings and valvetrain, keeps seals from drying out. This is common sense.

I personally put in fuel stabilzer, fresh oil, and use a battery tender. My car isn't insured so driving it around isn't an option, and articles I read made it sound like I should drive it around if I'm going to fire it up, especially to keep the battery charged (not applicable to me).

With a possible recession on the horizon, it might be a wise choice. Nobody can predict how things will be like in the future. Let some other province or country take their chances.

I think it's a responsible move. The local indigenous leaders are pissed off, but something tells me when shit hits the fan, the tax payers will be holding the bag and they'll just bail.

just my humble opinion

I read that article as more of an opinion piece rather than providing any actual measured fact.
The concerns about oil dilution is somewhat valid, but to the extent it might be detrimental is probably pretty negligible, especially if the oil is fresh when the car goes into storage. And yeah it's probably more an issue to old carbureted cars which run extremely pig rich when they're cold, compared to modern fuel injected cars.

I think it's FAR more damaging to an engine for seals and bearings to go dry than any effect fuel dilution could cause.

Umm one minor correction, Lula didn't lose to Bolsonaro. He served 2 full terms. His successor Dilma Rousseff was impeached from office after during her term due to corruption. The VP took over and he was defeated by Bolso. The end of Lula's (2010) and start of Bolso's (2019) terms were almost a decade apart.

Looking for places to get away once or twice in the winter when it's wet and rainy here. Ideally somewhere tropic but I just wanna wfh somewhere warmer and nicer weather.

Budget is around $2,000 - 3,000 all-in for ideally 4 to 7 nights or longer for two peeps. Could make this 4 to 6 peeps if it's more economical.

Any suggestions?

How do you get crushed by a human?
Did people flop to the ground and just lay there getting run over for an hour?

Good question, actually I was pretty oblivious to the specifics just because dying in this manner sounded so bizarre. But I did some digging and found this...

Really good post about this topic:

India wouldn't make much sense for a 4-7 night trip. You'll be on a plane a third of the trip there.

I'd suggest popping down to Mexico or Hawaii if you're going for such a short duration. Puerto Vallarta is a quick 6 hour flight, Cabo/La Paz similar.

Hawaii -- same thing, quick 5 hour flight.

Unless you're going for a minimum of 2 weeks, I'd never bother considering anything in Asia, not worth the time sitting on a plane both ways.

Suspect #2

This suspect threw a metal table and garbage can, kicked and threw objects at the refrigerators, and used bodily force to cause a tent to collapse.

Look around you guy, no one looks like you, guess who everyone is going to jump on if a fight pops off? You.

I've seen that happen so many times in places like Thailand or Philippines (Thailand in particular). Drunk white dude starts a fight with a random Thai over money or some shit, suddenly he's getting shit kicked by 10 dudes/women.

Colonialism is a helluva drug.

I always sorta cringe when people (almost always white) say "Oh the locals are wonderful, they're so FRIENDLY to you" like they're describing an amiable dog or something.

Yeah no shit, cause they see you as a meal ticket. Try being a non-white traveller, no matter how much money you have you'll never get the same red carpet treatment as some broke-ass pasty faced backpacker from Brisbane/Bristol/Brussels. ^They also don't want you to stay if they can help it. Youth are likely more transient and less likely to plant roots.

Back when I did it in Australia 10+ years ago it was 18-30 and a 1 year limit. They also limited the time you could stay at any one job to 6 months. It was a "Working Holiday" not a path to permanent residency/citizenship (tho many do). Many people did fruit picking or hospitality jobs to fill that type of shortage but I managed to get contract work related to my career. Still tho, I checked out after 3 months to take on more "holiday" even though they offered to extend my contract.

The one thing I appreciate that Apple does is they don't treat the smaller version of the phone as an inferior model. Both Samsung and Pixel give the larger versions of the phone a better screen, better camera, even better charging speeds.

Some people just prefer not having a huge phone but don't want to lose features because of it.

I kind of identify with your buddy. I think my life is kinda empty and hollow even though I’m financially independent. The wife and I splurge on material shit that we really don’t need, but it doesn’t fill the void. I’m getting this nagging suspicion this void is suppose to be filled with children but we ultimately didn’t wanna go down that route as I’m afraid I’ll be a bad parent. So here I am, almost 40 and feeling empty inside.. too selfish to do any volunteering shit like what you suggested but also not satisfied with myself or life in general.

Oh well… on to next “project” and that’s taking up sailing this coming summer. I was suppose to start training in 2020 but then stupid covid hit and ruined my sailing dreams. Goal is to eventually quit my job, and go sailing around the world doing this “crusing” lifestyle. Although i think it might just be a passing fancy, it’s at least something I want to focus my energies on temporarily.

I mean if Bill Gates (one of the richest man in the world) is into philanthropy, good causes, clean water, education, etc., I wonder if there is something to it. Find something you can get on board with ... youth and education, indigenous issues, music for underprivileged kids, orphanages, Canucks Kids, environment, etc. ... I think you can take anything that you have an interest in and creatively use it to enrich the lives of others.

I remember that recently, some Supercar club organizer doing an event for underprivileged kids.

An example of a billionaire, "getting it," is our local billionaire, Jimmy Pattison. He had humble beginnings. Became a businessman and built an empire. I love this guy, because he has never forgotten his past. He gives back. He headed Expo 86 where he worked as CEO for $1.00 a day, has given to hospitals, charities, etc. I'm sure if you dig deep enough, there's something he can be criticized for, but he has a heart of gold and treats people right. So he's a bit religious, but he never pushes it on others.

Anyway, when he passes, people will remember him. Friends, he had plenty of, and what's more important, he is respected by just about everybody. Even if he didn't have all that money and lost it all, he would still be respected.

When you give and help others whenever and wherever you can, the results are very rewarding. I know a lot of people don't "get it," but honestly giving to others without strings attached will fill all that void and darkness.

I wish Revscene had more givers than takers................. but like the rest of the world, people are too into themselves. Actually, more bystanders than anything. It's easy to just do nothing.

I might have mentioned this before, but I used to volunteer at fundraising events at schools. I found out that people with plenty of disposable income rarely give, while those who are not well off give the most. They have next to nothing, but they know what it's like to go hungry and not knowing if they'll make the next payments. Having money is a trap. We all need to feel comfortable and have what we've always wanted, but some people just have way more money than what they know what to do with.......... that didn't come out right. Need to stop this shit........... going to be accused of being "holier than thou."

god bless

I told him the usual, "volunteer." Give of yourself. Not sure if I want to start being a friend again. Too much baggage................ He never had time for me after high school, so why now? Then again................. hmmmmmmm........

Fuck those people, they only want you in their life when they are bored

I had a close guy friend in highschool, funny enough we would go to ricescene meats, get a donut at tim hortons multiple times a week, work out, do burnouts (5500$ burnouts), the whole deal for years

Each time he got a GF, he would usually ghost by like 50% of the time

The last time he got a GF, I managed to see him ONCE, in an entire year. After that, I just removed him out of my life, it's sad, but that's just how some people are

Recently met a couple that did well with their property portfolio and donated a large sum to a local hospital. The hospital foundation had the balls to tack on a 10-15% administration charge on top of their donation. It wasn't until they had threatened to back out due to these charges that they waived it for them.

I think that's why ppl aren't as a giving as they once were. Its pennies on the dollar that actually makes it past the filtering process of an organization and the greedy little hands of those in charge of where the money goes
