^ seems to me that's the wrong approach. The petition or drive or appeal should be to the pharmaceutical companies to reduce the cost of the medication ... what the hell medication is worth $3M/year? No amount of fundraising, crowdsourcing will be enough and then you're paying these drug companies that insane obscene amount?

Drug companies has got to take their billion dollar profits and invest it into new drugs even at initial loss.

CivicBlues

What's the logic in this kind of pharmaceutical pricing?

Yeah Imma spend billions developing this new miracle drug and then price it so high that no insurance company or government is willing to pay for it.
What am I missing?

underscore
07-08-2020, 12:37 PM
The new drug is a one time cure for $3M, apparently the current alternative just manages symptoms. The cure is apparently "competitively" priced to be half the cost of 10 years of the management medication.

The wording of how they came up with the price disgusted me when I read it but apparently that's their logic. Unfortunately it's an American company that came up with it.

Alex Fraser was fucked up around noon today, took me almost an hour to get from nordel to queensborough...this was why.

Delta Police were called to the Alex Fraser Bridge around noon July 17 for what appears to be an isolated incident involving one vehicle, a driver and passenger.

It appears the passenger of the vehicle experienced a mental health crisis while being driven northbound over the bridge, and seriously injured the driver with an edged weapon. A number of passing motorists stopped and intervened. The passenger then fled the vehicle and appears to have suffered a medical event herself.

Both the victim and suspect in this incident were taken to hospital and the suspect, the female passenger, is in police custody. A number of people assisted as events unfolded, including an off-duty paramedic who offered initial medical treatment to the victim.

Traffic in the area was significantly impacted. Thank you to the motoring public for their patience while police investigated, and for ensuring access for Emergency Health Services.

“Many members of the public may have witnessed this incident, and potentially captured it on dashcam,” says Cris Leykauf, spokesperson for Delta Police. “Anyone who has not yet spoken to police, or who may have dashcam is asked to contact the non-emergency line at Delta Police at 604-946-4411. We’d also like to thank those who stopped to offer assistance.”

“We recognize that this incident may have been quite traumatic for those who witnessed it. Victims Services is being offered to those who police are in contact with, but recognizing that this was a complicated scene, we would like to make it known that this service is available,” says Leykauf.

Did you know – Anyone who is experiencing a mental health crisis, can call the BC Crisis Centre 24/7 at 1-800-784-2433. Online chat for youth or adults is also available noon to 1 am at www.YouthInBC.com or www.CrisisCentreChat.ca.

So passenger went cray cray and stabbed the driver...I was headed northbound when I saw an ambulance screaming down southbound to Delta, I assume the passenger jumped the median after she ran out and got hit by a car.

Stay healthy - physically and mentally - everyone. Christ.

Has anyone replaced a vinyle deck before?

I want to replace my parents deck it's about 20 years old. I was just wondering, based on youtube video's it says that I need to replace the subfloor (plywood), is this necessary if the plywood is in still good condition? and it's not rotten or water compromised?

disclaimer: i'm not a decking guy

in my old house that had a carport i was told the same thing by the contractor that he can re-use the sub-base and it seemed to be OK, i was there for about 5 years with no issues (i moved after so dunno how it is now). but you'll probably need to patch/level where needed and ensure it still has proper slope etc so you don't get pooling or anything.

If you can get the old vinyl up extremely cleanly it’s probably fine

However if the glue and whatever is under the vinyl is left over it’s probably going to be easier to rip up and replace the subfloor than scrape and sand to get that smooth application surface.

Also if you’re paying Somone to lay new vinyl down they likely will not do it if the old surface has defects or glue etc. On it because that will just open them up to the product failing in the future.

How big is the deck?

If the deck is against the house the flashing may be a concern. However this is definitely an option.

Get some nice 5/8” tongue and groove and create a nice new surface. Spend the little extra and get the nice tongue and groove sheets

blkgsr
07-29-2020, 01:06 PM
you'll still want to either give the existing plywood a good sand to remove any remaining adhesive/vinyl so you don't get any bumps etc

PeanutButter
07-29-2020, 05:52 PM
Ahh that's why they recommend using a fresh sub floor. I think it's pretty hard to rip up the old vinyl and not have a nice clean smooth surface.

That makes sense. I'm wanting to do it myself, which is why I'm asking.

The deck itself is about 12x12ft.

I'll probably just replace the subfloor though, might as well do it right. I never knew about tongue and groove plywood until I watched a youtube video. Thanks for the suggestion

wouldn't you use the template from the RTA and amend add items as needed? Mind you, even if you write something in to contract and they sign, but if it goes against the RTA, it's not enforceable.

eg. if you write in that if they're a day late on rent you get to kick 'em in the nuts...you don't get to kick them in the nuts...

not sure if any of the above is helpful...

Woah, my dad pretty much had the same surgery (to do the same repairs) earlier in June this year. Actually, he had a valve repair done about 10 years ago, so this is his second go at heart surgery (re-repair + bypass). Pretty crazy what the surgery entails (cut through sternum, use of heart/lung machine, etc.)

Do you back your car into the garage when parking? This will affect what the driver's door opens into - open space, or a wall.

If you use the side door to access the garage, maybe it's more convenient to park the car close to that door. I assume you will be using your car more often than accessing the storage/workshop side. Like others have mentioned, it might be more useful to have three walls on the storage/workshop side.

Ahhh makes sense.

Supposedly the high heat transfer rate of concrete will let the battery get too cold which is hard on it. I have no clue if that's just an old wives tale or only applicable to old school batteries but it'll protect the concrete if the battery leaks so I've always figured it's a good idea.

Is it possible for people to break into my car with a relay box like they do for cars with proximity key entry, or am I more likely just forgetting to properly lock my car?

Both times I've had someone enter my car, I've noticed no signs of forced entry nor did my alarm go off.

Hey RS.

I need some advice.

This is a picture of my two car garage. My plan is to only park one car in the garage and use the other side more as storage and a workshop. I am wondering if there is a more efficient side to park?

I've been thinking about it and I can't seem to decide.

Any thoughts or am I over thinking this?

Thanks

I have the exact same garage layout (guessing this is a Vancouver special) and I'm currently parked in spot 2, but if I were to do it again, I'd park in spot 1 mostly for the convenience of having the driver door open into open space and not into a wall.

bestbuy. Same item 2 different prices. Tried to buy one they had none in stock. Then why do you have a bunch of tags hanging? She said then includes online stock \ :seriously: If I wanted to buy online why would I come to the store. She checked online and they had none it was discontinued. Thanks for wasting 20 min of my time.

Best Buy is so bad. I had a case fan die late at night a few months ago and Best Buy had a Thermaltake unit on sale that would do the job, so rather than ordering online, I went in.

Went straight to the PC section and got caught by a sales associate who asked me what I was looking for. Told her I was looking for a TT case fan that’s on sale and she responds, “like for under your laptop?” I said, “No. A fan that goes inside your computer case.”

She calls another sales associate over to ask her and she says, “oh, a case inside your computer? That sounds like a Geek Squad item.”

So then she brings me over to the Geek Squad desk and I say I’m looking for a Thermaltake 120 mm PWM case fan that’s on sale this week and she says, “I don’t know what any of that other stuff means but the case fans are over here.” Walks me over to the case fans.

Last month, my friend bought a Seagate M.2 SSD online and didn’t realize that it didn’t come with the mounting hardware, which normally ships with the motherboard. He couldn’t find his spare parts so I was trying to track down some stuff for him locally so we could get it installed that day. Tried all the mom & pop shops, then London Drugs, Staples, and, finally, Best Buy as a last resort. Go talk to the tech at Geek Squad and say I’m looking for M.2 mounting hardware for an Asus motherboard and she asks, “What do you mean M2?” I respond “An M.2 solid state drive.” She says, “Oh those just plug into a SATA port.”

It’s bad enough the sales associates don’t know anything about computers but how the fuck does the tech not know what an M.2 drive or PWM fan are?

I’ve been dealing with “geek squad” to honour a simple warrantee claim on my gas range for almost 2 months now. I thought the support was bad with HP but BB and geek squad take the cake. I will never buy another thing from Bestbuy based on the experience and absolutely horrendous service I’ve had from start to finish.

The ironic thing is that the sales manager was metro was excellent however everyone else along the way have been a nightmare

lol if they lost your product then you have every right to go apeshit, especially if they're dicking you around. That's not a Karen move.

Anyway, yesterday afternoon, neighbourhood ice cream truck was playing a tune I had never heard before.

I thought, wow, this is great. The usual "Turkey in the Straw" the ice cream truck plays has been deemed racist by many. So, ice cream trucks in the US are changing their tune.

I heard the ice cream truck just a while ago and it was playing the same ol' "Turkey in the Straw."

Fricken racist ice cream truck driver, gulolol.

To be honest, the lyrics are fine. It's the other versions of the song that are questionable and there's a bit of history with that song.

If you have empty 2 litre bottles or any drink container over 1 litre, with the exception of milk related products, the price structure is about to change in October.

https://www.retailcouncil.org/province/bc/beverage-container-program-changes/

In a nutshell, your bottle that you paid an extra 20¢ or more for, will only get you 10¢ back. On October 1st, 2020, all containers will require a 10¢, no matter what size. After the 11th of October, all bottles, regardless of size, will be worth 10¢ each.

Recently I was cleaning out my Tracker and found a business card of an Abby police constable with a file number written on the back. My memory is fuzzy on what this was about. The file number goes something like 13-xxxxx. If the 13 represents the year 2013, then I am pretty sure I know what it is about. Anyone know if the number preceding the dash on police file numbers is indeed the year in which it was opened?

When I went this morning, they had a full pallet and people were buying them here and there. Lots of picture taking. Anyway, by the time I got to the Still Creek location there were only nine, maybe ten left. Thank god I didn't wait until the Blue Jays baseball game was over. I am not going to open the new one until tomorrow. Give it a day or so to really test the first one out. I do have a Dyson Hot/Cold that has HEPA filter, but right now, they are out of stock on filters and the filters are like $100.00. I have 5% filter life left as of today. That is not a HEPA filter. Nowhere on the packaging does it say HEPA, for one. It's a MERV 13 pleated filter, certainly much better than your standard MERV 7/8 pleated filters, but not HEPA. It's also installed incorrectly as the pleats are supposed to be vertical, not horizontal. In humid environments, this could cause the filter media to sag over time, reducing effectiveness. Installing the filter on the upstream side of the fan and sealing around the outside of the filter would improve the effectiveness of the filter as well. What about fan selection? Does the fan chosen generate enough static pressure to adequately overcome the pressure drop across the filter, especially once it's loaded? With the filter installed, how much flow is getting through? How many air changes per hour for your room (aka how large of a room will it reasonably filter)?

His test is also terrible as it's only measuring what's coming directly off the filter, which unless your face is directly in front of the filter the whole time, means nothing. What matters is how effectively it can reduce the ambient particle count within the space.

When we're doing HEPA testing at work, the way he does it is fine because we know we're pushing 12-30 air changes per hour, so any ambient particles are going to get pushed out of the space in 2-5 minutes and replaced with 100% HEPA-filtered outside air. He's testing a system that is 100% recirculation with an unadvertised amount of flow.

Just came across an ad by Mazda. It's Matsuda's (Mazda's) 100th Anniversary. Wow. I thought it was maybe 60 or 70 years old like Honda. Just out of curiosity, I googled Mitsubishi to see how old it was as a company. Did not know Mitsubishi was founded by Iwasaki Yataro. Damn, from my Japanese History class (Asian Studies at UBC), Yataro was a very prominent figure during the fall of the Shogunate and beginning of the Meiji Restoration.

Not as heroic as Sakamoto Ryoma, Iwasaki was more a business man than a fighter. The Diamond Star logo of Mitsubishi is derived from Iwasaki Yatoro's family crest.

Mitsubishi has been around for so long and has close ties with the government of Japan. Makes sense, Mitsubishi Zero, a famous fighter plane from WWII.

Anyway, happy birthday Matsuda.

I don't have too much of a problem with the other types of masks I have. It's my go to, KN95 that's the problem. I like how it flexes when I breath in and out. Feels like it's doing a good job of filtration. It also fits my Asian face, shape. I have the washable cloth type with replaceable filter, but it's more for caucasian noses......... lol. Hey RS,

Has anyone gotten an electrical permit before?

My concern is that we did some material reno's in our ground level without permits. We converted a three bedroom and family room floor into a two bedroom suite and a studio suite.

I'm wanting to get an electric car and we'll need a 200A upgrade for our electrical to sustain the charger.

By applying for this electrical permit, will the inspector come to our house and inspect it?

If it's anything like a building permit, yes. They can go through your whole property to inspect.

It depends who you get, but from my experience most inspectors barely care about the thing you called them in for, let alone anything else on your property. When we totally redid our kitchen (moved all the lights, took out a wall, etc) the first guy just asked if we'd moved any plumbing and didn't look at anything. The second came about a foot inside the front door, said "yep, you took out a wall", signed the paper and left.

YES They will come out and inspect it, depending on your municipality and if it is a contractor doing the work or a home owner.

i am a electrical contractor, and in my many years of experience on dealing with inspectors. They wont care about what you did prior.

They will come inspect what they need to and get out. Vancouver electrical inspectors are very thorough on what they are inspecting, as long as you don't have anything in sight that is against code, un-safe or in the process of renovation you will be OK.

For me, my argument with anyone who questions Reno’s etc. As long as the work is done properly, is who is to say when this work was done?

I know that some wiring has date stamps etc. But once it’s done and completed it’s pretty hard for Somone to say it was you who did the work and where’s the permits etc.

For upgrading to 200amps panel, you might want to get in touch with BC Hydro first before worrying about inspectors.

Inspectors worries about code... which if your electrician is competent enough, there shouldn't be any issue. And as many have already commented, they ONLY care about what they are there for. So, electrical inspectors care only about how your electricals are run vs. what the code dictates. It could be a completely lousy job, but as long as it's within the code, they would ok it.

Now back to BCHydro... you have to check with them to see if your area, or more specifically, the box where your home is connected to has enough spare capacity.

I've read from local Tesla group where they weren't able to get their service upgraded because there simply isn't enough capacity.

they have a lot more power than you think.

when you buy a home, you buy what someone else did, with or without a permit. i have seen many bad renovations done without permits.

permits protect the person paying for work done in the sense that atleast it will be done up to code..

pick a contractor, have them contact BC Hydro. they can work with BC Hydro on your behalf. I have never had BC Hydro say there wasn't enough capacity in the area. maybe I have just been lucky.
For some of the bigger developments, i have seen BC hydro make the developer pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to get the power to their site.

How much is a resi permit? Seems risky to do the work without one and not worth the cost savings.

A neighbour of mine got busted and the city put up highly visible red signs to let everyone know it. Seemed kind of foolish to me to try and save a few bucks considering the potential ramifications as mentioned above. Are they pricey?

I think it varies area to area.

For the most part, it should be fine.

This particular member of the Tesla group commented on something about homes in his/her area mostly being on 120+ AMP services as most have home+suite and from the comments, it seems that there were many people already done the upgrade to 200 and even 400amp services leaving no spare capacity. And it works on a first come, first served basis as far as capacity is concerned.

Not sure how it ended though. As I'm sure if there's the need, BCHydro would be adding capacity to their box. Although it might be a lengthy wait.

Star Trek? Star Wars? same-same right? both about nerdy space fantasy :lol

No, no, no.............

Star Trek > Star Wars.

Thinking back to when Star Trek first aired back in 1966, it has inspired so much. Just the technology alone. Okay, food replicators and teleportation a far stretch, but memory cards, communicators, etc.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-good-is-star-treks-record-at-predicting-the-future-of-tech/

https://www.mynewlab.com/blog/10-times-star-trek-predicted-future-sci-fi/

On top of the tech stuff, Star Trek gave us hope. That in the future, humankind prevails and harmony can be reached. So many episodes that dealt with the human factor. Lessons in life, etc. Pretty powerful stuff. Then the idea of alien species - Klingons, Vulcans, Cardassians, Ferengi, even the Dominion (founders, Jem'Hadar, Vorta, etc.). A lot of traits from these species that exist in humans. How we deal with differences and try to solve bigger issues through cooperation. I love all the versions of Star Trek. From the original series to DS9, Enterprise, and Voyager. The movies were also, for the most part, great. Having said that the newest thing, Star Trek Lower Decks. Shit, that series is horrible. I know it's supposed to be comedy, but it's way over the top. Maybe like DS9, I'll start to like it. Discovery. I just need to get over that crybaby chick.

As for Star Wars, meh. I watched Dune (even though it's not Star Wars, it's relative to the Star Wars sagas) and it was okay. The trilogies, prequels, sequels, etc. of Star Wars got tiring and predictable. Don't get me wrong, the stuff is alright, but Star Trek is more, much more.

I've been watching a lot of Stargate lately. I'm getting into Atlantis.

Oh, forgot to mention. The hot women of Star Trek franchise........... simply amazing. Speaking of which, Officer Hawt and Waverly Earp from that weird series, Wynonna Earp. That carpet licking scene from season 1.

Since we're talking sci-fi. I just watched the new Twilight Zone. It's nothing like the original. I guess it's in the second year. I'm not sure what to think of it.

Back to Star Wars, I am looking forward to the 2020 (2021) version of Dune. Dune for grown ups, while Star Wars was for kids and young adults.

I have yet to watch the Mandalorian series. Worth the watch?

Electrical work is pretty much the only portion of your home you can legally do yourself as long as you have Somone to sign off on it. Basic residential electrical work is very easy.

Getting permits to do minor renovations in Vancouver frankly is not worth it. The amount of over the top BS they want is worth the risk in going without one imo.

Albeit inside work is far easier to hide etc than some major exterior renovation. But having to provide drawings and engineering reports for minor structural stuff is rediculous.

Edit*

Hehe is correct in his B.C. hydro information. As far as I know it is impossible to get a 150/200 amp service off a mid-span connection. So if your home is fed off the mid span of the power line, you are going to have to pay for an additional pole and everything else that comes a long with that.

If it’s an underground service fed from a transformer then it may be a bit easier

After 33 years, it's the end for an iconic Hong Kong-style diner in Vancouver's Chinatown
Open since 1986, Gold Stone was a treasured spot for locals who took great comfort in its menu of Hong Kong diner-style fare.

After 33 years on Keefer Street in Chinatown, Gold Stone Bakery & Restaurant is no more.

The beloved bakeshop and cafe business was first listed for sale in mid-June for $500,000, but after not managing to snag a buyer, the price was dropped a whopping $350,000 to $150,000 on Oct. 1.

Open since 1986, Gold Stone was a treasured spot for locals who took great comfort in its menu of Hong Kong diner-style fare.

Among the many items on the menu that diners adored at Gold Stone were its HK milk tea, as well as their breakfast combos, baked pork chop over rice, pineapple buns, egg tarts, and chow mein.

Here you could find instant noodles swimming with slices of spam and a sunny side up egg, fried rice studded with chicken and ham, and golden Hong Kong-style French Toast. Come lunchtime, diners would tuck into bowls of Russian borscht with a dinner roll before moving on to things like plates of chicken in black pepper sauce or black bean spare ribs with rice, or a more western-style Club Sandwich.

Known for their quick, no-frills service, plexiglass-topped tables with menus pressed beneath, and a cash-only policy (for their hallmark affordable prices), losing Gold Stone is a blow to the city, not just within the Chinatown community itself but for all those who flocked to Gold Stone in search of what many felt were the best examples of classic HK diner eats in the lower mainland.

Gold Stone is also an example of an "intangible" kind of heritage that preservationists constantly seek to save. Gold Stone is named throughout the 2015 Heritage BC "Vancouver Chinatown Intangible Heritage Values Report," as a place of value in the community that doesn't have a "heritage" designation that would keep it from being removed, altered, or destroyed.

"The cultural activities and events that take place in Vancouver’s Chinatown contribute to its value and significance for participants. The rich history and existing physical heritage of Vancouver’s Chinatown also contributes to its value and significance for participants because it embodies the history and experience of Chinese Canadians in B.C.," reads the report's introduction.

The closure of Gold Stone began back in the spring, as the COVID-19 pandemic forced restaurants and businesses to close their doors. Since then, however, Gold Stone's temporary shut down has morphed into a permanent one.

For any prospective buyers, the listing for Gold Stone, at 137A-139 Keefer Street, is through RA Realty Alliance.

Has anyone got a GPS tracker for their car that uses a SIM card? Canada never had cheap enough phone plans for me to want to do it, but with Shaws new free plan + $10 for 1GB for 90 days it'd cost $40/yr which I think is well worth it.

Ideally I want something that I can check the location of remotely and be able to have it text me the GPS coordinates should it have a cell signal but not a data connection. Bonus points if it has the ability to have a geo fence. I've got some old Androids and iPhones kicking around too, maybe there's an app that does this and I can just wire the phone into the car?

no, mid span taps are still done on occasion and a ticketed electrician cannot sign off on electrical work, a master electrician or FSR can. Yes, there are money hungry contractors that will sign off on home owners un inspected work, I personally would not.

if your dealing with provincial inspectors, yes you can have a FSR sign off. I would not be surprised if some of the electrical inspectors in Vancouver would fight to make you expose the work. I am not familiar with signing off on un permitted work, i am familiar with some inspectors in Vancouver, they can be very difficult.

In Vancouver, it is almost a privilege to do business as a contractor, the amount of info they want and the waiting times are way too much and too long.

this is the only city I have worked in where you can pay "overtime" to get your permit processed faster.

Yea, it’s a joke.

My former company built approx 350 homes in the 9 years I worked for them (townhomes and custom builds) we built a total of 1 home in Vancouver and it was really only as a favour to Somone in a slow time. I really want to build a custom home myself but I think I may want to move to North Burnaby or elsewhere just due to the nightmare of logistics in building within the CoV

And then they murdered their relative/business partner at his mansion on the British properties, and then chopped the body up into bits?

Well he was only convicted of manslaughter and was sentenced to 7yrs for it + 3 yrs for dismembering the body

If you want a good quality rug, just go big.

That comes from my parents experience of buying rugs. It's one of those things that if you buy cheap, you buy many times.

Rugs they buy are in the 4-6k range, but they are thicker, thus I think for thin ones you could be in the low 4-figures... but point is, they have kept every single one of them so far and they felt as comfy as I step on the first day. The ones in bedroom, they might get a pass... but the one in their house in Taiwan is easily 20yrs in the living room where someone walks on it on a daily basis... other than some $$$ to have it professionally cleaned every so often, nothing has ever done to them in term of maintenance.

The problem with that is, styles change.

I’m all for spending money on quality however I almost certainly know my home will not look the way it does now in 10 years. Not to say you can’t get timeless rugs which are pretty versatile in terms of look but a carpet that’s been there for 20 years likely means much of the look has remained the same as well.

I think you are confusing style vs. fashion. But that's why when buying quality (expensive) stuff, you go something that's timeless. Don't buy what's IN right now... buy something that has
aged well in term of design. Fashion may go out of style, but style never does.

There are Persian grade quality rugs that have a design to modern rugs in a variety of colors too (although in similar price range). So, just take your pick.

Another example of longevity, a hardwood floor's color might go from mahogany in style to grey... but the hardwood floor itself never change. One could re-finish the HW floor itself to different stains several times if a quality HW floor was used in the first place. If you used vinyl or other cheaper alternatives, the only way is pretty much to gut it and replace them.

Hondaracer
10-07-2020, 10:23 AM
Again, I agree. However a colourful rug essentially forces you to work with the colours it brings into the room. Especially in smaller spaces regardless of being “timeless” it’s kinda shitty to be picking paint colours based on a rug you blew your load on. I’m one to spend money on quality stuff and also waste money on somewhat “frivolous” purchases, and I would never consider spending 4-5k on a rug because that’s just a waste for me.

I’ve dealt with a lot of designers and some ULTRA high end stuff ie. 40k rugs custom made by burrit bro’s etc. Generally those people are tossing rugs and switching them out quicker than the $400 IKEA rug.

Don't waste your time and money. Any good advice worth your attention can take a lifetime to master. Luckily there aren't many.

The current young generation... those born in the 90s are too impatient.

They are used to the internet where it can tells you the answer of any definitive question in a matter of seconds.

And this opens up to these scammers who are trying to monetize on open-ended questions like "how to build wealth" in these fastfood courses that cost an arm and legs.

I don't even need to google and I'd know their usual strategy:

He/she made x-amount of money in a short time... it's EASY and SIMPLE! ANYONE can do it! And if you add to this maillist, you can learn more!

Then once you put your contact info in, a simple "success story" would be sent to you... if you want to know more, here's a course for a low price of five grand!

:rukidding:

If I tell you my stock portfolio is up 900% within the last year, would you give me five grand to tell you how I did it? You wouldn't... because I'm a nobody.

But if I post a screenshot of my stock portfolio showing as such and a pic of me driving a Bentley... would you? If you even hesitated for a slight second... that's a problem. :fuckthatshit:

Gold jewelry - I've worn the same necklace every day for 20+ years. There's 4 small items, 2 of the pendants are roughly the size of a dime that are connected to it and one them has a raised inscription on the back side of it. The raised part on the back pendant is the part which lays on my chest and over the years is slowly wearing away. My question is this, is there a protective coating that can be put over them to prevent them from rubbing against each other and eventually wear the raised inscription away for ever? Possibly a clear coat that doesn't bulky looking? they're each about 1mm thick. Just a flat piece of gold with a picture on one side and inscription on the other.

Well, 20% off regular price. Turns out to be about 96 cents off. 4 Litres for 3.75 or so. Superstore and Shoppers had, $1.00 off (1000 points) offers alternating between the two for a while. Not sure if it works or not anymore, but I had a few instances where I got both 1000 points and the seniors discount. My Shoppers used to have three bags of cubed ice 3 for $9.99. With seniors discount that's 8 bucks for three bags. $2.67 a bag!

Anyway, every so often, they have 20% off, plus $10.00 vouchers and sometimes gas cards for seniors day (Thursdays).

On the subject of deals............. Just the other day, I was at No Frills. They had Franco American canned gravy for 67 cents each - made by Campbells. Not bad price, but they also had a "Hauler" special of 500 points on each can. That turns out to be 17 cents a can. Three types. Beef, Chicken, and Turkey. Expiry date of mid 2022. I got me a few. McD's fries for a buck each at Walmart, the gravy, and squeaky cheese from Costco. Quick and dirty poutine for a frugal asian price, lol. The gravy is not great, but it's cheap. Better shit than a lot of those places that sell poutine at crazy prices. Cavendish frozen fries are on sale just about everywhere, too.

All those points add up and when you use them at spend your points events, it's money.........

I bought a Nintendo switch and used the maximum points allowable and paid under 50 bucks or so, taxes in. I thought the most was $100.00, but apparently, it can be more. So the advertised deal is $200.00 worth in points gets you $300.00 spending power. I got more. The sales guy explained it to me, but I was too tired to try and figure it out. Anyway, I love Optimum points.

Gas at Mobil or Esso = 4 cents/litre off. Then they have multiple points events every now and then.

You know, that's probably my only major gripe about the mask. The inability for others to, and to see others smile. It's a very powerful social cue.
One that almost seems taken for granted.

I've taken to "super smiling" to the point of asian squinty eyes to try and convey that I'm smiling.

Anyone buy anything on prime day? Share your good finds.

It was my first time checking out Prime Day as I finally caved and became a Prime member during the lockdown earlier this year.

The only thing you can’t really do is trim the width. So you will have to go in with your absolute widest measurement possible and then consider the hinge swing

Everything else like depth and even height you can trim as needed. A table saw is nice to have though

The width is fine, its just the height since the set up is at a weird height off the ground...

I am assuming you are talking about the SEKTION system? Essentially want two slider doors so hinge won't really matter. After looking it seems like I just really need two rails and the drawers and then just trip the top excess frame?

Can you measure the dimensions of it after you get it? Tks

Without shelves, it's 3-1/4 wide by 5-1/2 tall by just under 2 inches from the wall. I'm an old school, SAE kind of guy. Don't ask for metric measurements.

The shelves are optional. The shorter shelf is 8 inches, while the longer one is 10 inches.

The shelves are offset. The top, shorter one is 2-1/2 inches off to the left. The bottom shelf is 1-1/2 inches off to the left. You can extrapolate the right side from all that. Correction. See update below.

There are slots on both sides of the shelves to accommodate wires for smartphones 2 total on each shelf. The night light is handy. It doesn't have a motion sensor or a timer.

Also, if the electrician somehow installed the plugs the wrong way, the thing can be installed upside down.

I'm happy with it. The whole thing is anchored via one receptacle, so it's not that sturdy, but the two USB ports, night light and extra plugs make this thing functional. If they somehow made it so you could screw in onto the centre plate screw, it would be perfect.

I checked the second one I purchased but haven't installed yet and it doesn't look like it can be permanent mounted. I also forgot, GFIC plugs don't have a centre screw. Two screws and they don't line up with anything on this thing.

Hope this helps...........

EDIT:
One week later, lol, I find out both shelves are adjustable (left to right). Out of the packaging, the bottom shelf is off to the right, so I just thought that's the way it was designed. I noticed these tabs on the shelf, so tried to lift it. That's when the shelf moved. Yeah, pays to read the instructions........

Any CUPE union experts here?

I have been working at CoV for the past 2 years and currently a CUPE 15 member. I have a few questions about a potential switch in working to working in the District of North Vancouver (CUPE 389)

1. Will my CUPE membership and seniority roll over to the new CUPE XXX union? Or will have to go through another probation period?

2. In the hiring process, will I be given the CUPE 'benefits' of having higher priority in the selection process? Or, do they only consider Union members in their local?

Far from an expert but I am CUPE.
The only thing that will roll over is your pension since its through the BC Municipal Pension Plan. You'll still have a probation period etc since its a new employer. You may have a very slight upper hand as a current CUPE member but that benefit is only useful if you nail the interview.

If any of you guys need blood work or anything else done at LifeLabs, don’t wait. Appointments are full for weeks. Usually wait times are acceptable. Like less than 20 minutes. Here I am at North Road LifeLabs. 90 minute wait. I asked how it’s like early in the morning. If you haven’t lined up before opening, it gets bad. 8:00 am there was a two hour wait. You can do a “Save my spot,” via their website. Still a long wait, but there’s a cue that you can view (count down timer). Anyway, I have to go every three months. I’m booking an appointment for that one now, lol.
