Ultimate Caesar Garnish in Vancouver (http://www.vancitybuzz.com/2014/03/ultimate-caesar-garnish-vancouver/)

http://assets.vancitybuzz.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Ultimate-Caesar-600x600.jpg

Don’t look now, but it looks like the Score on Davie has just won the Caesar garnish game. Called the “Checkmate Caesar,” it’s garnished with a full roast chicken, Score burger, slider, chicken wings, pulled pork mac and cheese hot dog, roasted vegetables (in case you’re worried about your figure) and a brownie for dessert.

However, at $60.00 it does not come cheap and is recommended to be consumed between a group of people. According to a Score spokesperson, it takes 20 minutes to prepare the drink and food.

10 famous geniuses and their drugs of choice - Salon.com (http://www.salon.com/2013/08/16/10_famous_geniuses_who_used_drugs_and_were_better_ off_for_it_partner/?utm_content=buffer02691&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer)

1. Sigmund Freud — Cocaine

To Freud, cocaine was more than a personal indulgence; he regarded it as a veritable wonder drug, and for many years was a huge proponent of its use in a wide array of applications. In a letter written to his fianceé, Martha, Freud wrote: “If all goes well, I will write an essay [on cocaine] and I expect it will win its place in therapeutics by the side of morphine and superior to it … I take very small doses of it regularly against depression and against indigestion and with the most brilliant of success.”

Freud published such a review, titled “Uber Coca” in 1884. Interestingly, Freud’s paper was one of the first to propose drug substitution as a therapeutic treatment for addiction. While replacing morphine with cocaine is something we now know to be counterproductive to recovery, the concept of substitution therapies persists to this day. (For a great overview of Freud’s relationship with cocaine, check out this post by Scicurious.)

2. Francis Crick — LSD

Francis Crick — of the DNA-structure discovering Watson, Crick and Franklin — reportedly told numerous friends and colleagues about his LSD experimentation during the time he spent working to determine the molecular structure that houses all life’s information.

In fact, in a 2004 interview, Gerrod Harker recalls talking with Dick Kemp — a close friend of Crick’s — about LSD use among Cambridge academics, and tells the Daily Mail that the University’s researchers often used LSD in small amounts as “a thinking tool.” Evidently, Crick at one point told Kemp that he had actually “perceived the double-helix shape while on LSD.”

3. Thomas Edison — Cocaine Elixirs

In 1863, French chemist Angelo Mariani invented “Vin Mariani,” a Bordeaux wine treated with coca leaves, the active ingredient of which is none other than cocaine. The ethanol content in the Bordeaux could extract cocaine from the coca leaves in concentrations exceeding 7 mg per fluid ounce of wine. Thomas Edison — the prolific American inventor and notorious insomniac (though perhaps not surprisingly) — was one of many people of the period known to regularly consume the cocaine-laced elixir.

4. Paul Erdös — Amphetamines

Paul Erdös — well known for his hyperactivity; his habit of working 19-hour days, even well into his old age; and his tendency to show up on his colleagues’ doorsteps demanding they ”open their minds” to mathematical dialogue — was one of the most prolific mathematicians who ever lived, publishing more peer-reviewed papers than any other mathematician in history.

His secret? According to him, amphetamines. Included here is an excerpt from a book published in 1998 by Erdös’ de facto biographer, science writer Paul Hoffman, which explains Erdös’ proclivity for amphetamine use:

Like all of Erdös’s friends, [fellow mathematician Ronald Graham] was concerned about his drug-taking. In 1979, Graham bet Erdös $500 that he couldn’t stop taking amphetamines for a month. Erdös accepted the challenge, and went cold turkey for thirty days. After Graham paid up — and wrote the $500 off as a business expense — Erdös said, “You’ve showed me I’m not an addict. But I didn’t get any work done. I’d get up in the morning and stare at a blank piece of paper. I’d have no ideas, just like an ordinary person. You’ve set mathematics back a month.” He promptly resumed taking pills, and mathematics was the better for it.

5. Steve Jobs — LSD

LSD was a big deal for Steve Jobs. How big? Evidently, Jobs believed that experimenting with LSD in the 1960s was “one of the two or three most important things he had done in his life.” What’s more, he felt that there were parts of him that the people he knew and worked with could not understand, simply because they hadn’t had a go at psychedelics. This latter sentiment also comes through in his recently published biography, wherein Jobs goes so far as to associate what he interpreted as Bill Gates’ dearth of imagination with a lack of psychedelic experimentation:

“Bill is basically unimaginative and has never invented anything, which is why I think he’s more comfortable now in philanthropy than technology. He just shamelessly ripped off other people’s ideas.”

“He’d be a broader guy,” Jobs says about Gates, “if he had dropped acid once or gone off to an ashram when he was younger.”

6. Bill Gates — LSD

Which is funny, because Bill Gates totally did experiment with LSD, though an excerpt from a 1994 interview with Playboy reveals he was much less open about it than Jobs:

PLAYBOY: Ever take LSD?
GATES: My errant youth ended a long time ago.
PLAYBOY: What does that mean?
GATES: That means there were things I did under the age of 25 that I ended up not doing subsequently.
PLAYBOY: One LSD story involved you staring at a table and thinking the corner was going to plunge into your eye.
GATES: [Smiles]
PLAYBOY: Ah, a glimmer of recognition.
GATES: That was on the other side of that boundary. The young mind can deal with certain kinds of gooping around that I don’t think at this age I could. I don’t think you’re as capable of handling lack of sleep or whatever challenges you throw at your body as you get older. However, I never missed a day of work.

7. John C. Lilly — LSD, Ketamine

Neurocientist John C. Lilly was a pioneer in the field of electronic brain stimulation. He was the first person to map pain and pleasure pathways in the brain; founded an entire branch of science exploring interspecies communication between humans, dolphins and whales; invented the world’s first sensory deprivation changer; and conducted extensive personal experimentation with mind-altering drugs like LSD and ketamine.

It bears mentioning that Lilly’s experiments with interspecies communication, personal psychedelic use and sensory deprivation often overlapped.

8. Richard Feynman — LSD, Marijuana, Ketamine

Feynman was always careful about drug use, for fear of what it might do to his brain — giving up alcohol, for example, when he began to exhibit symptoms of addiction. In “Surely You’re Joking, Mr. Feynman!,” he writes, ”You see, I get such fun out of thinking that I don’t want to destroy this most pleasant machine that makes life such a big kick. It’s the same reason that, later on, I was reluctant to try experiments with LSD in spite of my curiosity about hallucinations.”

Nevertheless, Feynman’s curiosity got the best of him when he became acquainted with none other than John C. Lilly and his sensory deprivation tanks. Feynman experimented briefly with LSD, ketamine and marijuana, which he used to bring on isolation-induced hallucinations more quickly than he could when sober.

9. Kary Mullis — LSD

Who, you may be asking, is Kary Mullis? Let’s put it this way: If you’ve worked in a biomedical research lab since the 1980s, there is an exceedingly good chance you’ve performed a polymerase chain reaction (aka PCR, the lab technique that can turn a single segment of DNA into millions of identical copies), or are at least familiar with it. You have Mullis to thank for that. While Mullis didn’t invent the PCR technique, per se, he improved upon it so significantly as to revolutionize the field of biomedical research, securing himself a Nobel Prize in chemistry in the process.

The secret to Mullis’ breakthrough? In a September 1994 issue of California Monthly, Mullis says that he “took plenty of LSD” In the ’60s and ’70s, going so far as to call his “mind-opening” experimentation with psychedelics “much more important than any courses [he] ever took.” A few years later, in an interview for BBC’s Psychedelic Science documentary, Mullis mused aloud: “What if I had not taken LSD ever; would I have still invented PCR?” To which he replied, “I don’t know. I doubt it. I seriously doubt it.”

10. Carl Sagan — Marijuana

Preeminent astrophysicist and cosmologist Carl Sagan not only smoked marijuana regularly, he was also a strong advocate for its use in enhancing intellectual pursuits — though not as publicly as others on this list. Having said that, Sagan did contribute an essay to the 1971 book titled “Marijuana Reconsidered” that spoke to the virtues of marijuana use. The piece was penned under the assumed name “Mr. X.” The identity of its true author was only revealed after Sagan’s death.

CUTTING EDGE ANIMATRONICS! - YouTube

This terrifying doll, which can move her hips, legs, head, arms and fingers in the creepiest human-like fashion, is an art installation by Jordan Wolfson. It's on display from March 6 to April 19 at the David Zwirner Art Gallery in New York City.

The scariest part? Her eyes are equipped with motion-sensor technology so she can literally follow your gaze with her own soul-crushing stare.

She might not be so terrifying if she wasn’t wearing that hideous green witch mask, but as she waves her creepy hands in front of her face while dancing in the mirror, you pretty much know what your next nightmare is going to be about.

In the video, people watch her dance as she is connected to the mirror by a metal pole. She moves her entire body in slow sultry movements, making it impossible to look away.

Her eyes, though. It’s hard to believe she isn’t real. As the music picks up, so does she, and when it slows down, she stops…and stares.

Then, she suddenly spouts words from some strange monologue, sending chills down your spine as she follows you with her eyes.

In order to create this curvaceous animatronic sculpture, Wolfson worked in close collaboration with a special effects studio in California. The studio has also been used by some major Hollywood productions.

So why the need to showcase this seriously weird piece?

Wolfson says didn’t intend for the piece to be specifically about women. Instead, he wanted to explore "the gaze,"a concept usually linked to the notion of gender power imbalance in media.

It’s interesting to see that he has taken a scantily clad woman, turned her into a dancing sensation, and created the scariest freaking thing I have ever seen.

Normally, when you think of terrifying, the thought of a sexy woman swinging her hips doesn’t come to mind.

Perhaps Wolfson also wanted to get people to open their minds to the idea that fear comes in all forms.

After all, Wolfson is known for his thought-provoking pieces, which usually include a series of invented animated characters. It’s hard to believe any are as horrifying as this, though.

Want the latest buzz before it goes viral?

If the growth extends onto your property then you don't need permisison.

eg: my co-worker's neighbor trimmed a tree that was hanging onto his property. My co-worker was pissed when he got home and saw it. He confronted the neighbor who replied with a fuck off type answer. He then contacted the City of Richmond and they told him what I mentioned above. My co-worker felt pretty powerless afterwards and was shocked at the City's response. The tree is now half dead due to the extensive trimming.

I would check with the City of Vancouver first to be 100% sure you are in the right. Each municipality has their own rules and regulations around these type of matters. If, for some reason, you are in the wrong you might get a fine or something from the City.

What's a nice way of informing my neighbour that I want to trim her trees/bushes that have grown on to my side of the property? I'm not really asking for permission...

City of Vancouver has no Bylaws for this situation. It's strictly a civil matter, just simple tell your neighbour, hey I noticed some of your trees/bushes are encoraching onto my property, are you ok If I trim some of it back myself?

FYI from City Website.

What can I do if my neighbour's tree branches are overhanging my roof, sundeck, etc.? What can I do if the neighbor tree roots are cracking my sidewalk?

The best way to resolve an issue with your neighbor about overhanging tree branches or invasive roots is to discuss the situation and agree to a solution that serves both parties. Issues that arise between neighbours are more easily resolved if both neighbours use common sense and are willing to compromise. Neighbor to neighbor conflicts about trees overgrowing a property line is regarded as a civil matter and therefore the City of Vancouver cannot intervene on behalf of either neighbour. For disputes involving leaves, branches or root encroachments, the laws of ownership and trespass can be legally complicated. It is recommended that a consulting arborist and/or a lawyer be contacted for further guidance. The City of Vancouver recommends that any tree maintenance be carried out in responsible manner using accepted arboricultural practices.

The feels...:tears::tears::tears:

Singer Ed Sheeran helped to fulfill Triona Priestley's final wish on Sunday, serenading the Dublin teen over the phone.

Priestley, who had been battling cystic fibrosis since childhood, passed away minutes after receiving the call, reports Independent.ie. Sheeran sang the 15-year-old's favorite song, "Little Bird," as she listened on.

This touching exchange was made possible by a Twitter campaign. When Priestley's health took a dramatic turn earlier in the week, family and friends logged on and posted Tweets directed at Sheeran with the hashtag #SongForTri. By Sunday night the hashtag was trending on Twitter, with thousands of users trying to contact the singer.

Soon after #SongForTri became popular, Sheeran's management contacted Priestley's friend Lucy Hanlon to arrange a call between the girl and her idol.

"Ed rang Triona and personally sang Little Bird to her as she took her last breaths," Hanlon wrote on Facebook, according to the Daily Mail. "Triona left us listening to her idol surrounded by all the people who loved her. People's respect is incredible. We would like to thank everyone."

After a long fight with her illness, Priestley passed in the company of her loved ones following the serenade. Upon hearing the news, Sheeran Tweeted in memory of the 15-year-old and the impression she left on him.

Many satisfying hours have been spent throughout my life on a toilet with an Archie comic. :QQ:

(CNN) -- Since 1941, comic book fans have followed the exploits of teenaged Archie Andrews and his friends. This July, they'll find out how he dies.
"Life With Archie" #36 hits stores on July 16, and CNN can reveal exclusively that it tells the story of how Archie sacrifices himself to save a friend.
Few details are known, but it seems fitting that Archie would go out a hero. The 37th issue one week later will end the series.

Pet owners warned about dog park fire ant invasion | CTV Vancouver News (http://bc.ctvnews.ca/pet-owners-warned-about-dog-park-fire-ant-invasion-1.1765298)

A dog park in Richmond, B.C., is warning pet owners to take caution as a fire ant invasion sweeps through parks across the province.

European fire ants have taken hold at McDonald Beach Park and officials say the pests pose a health and safety threat to humans and pets alike. The tiny ants deliver a stinging, itchy bite if their nest is disturbed and are prone to swarming if their nests are disturbed. “So it’s like a bee sting but by the time you realize you’re in trouble you’re probably going to have a lot of ants on you,” said Jen Grenz of the Metro Vancouver Invasive Species Council. Richmond’s McDonald Beach Park is one of 23 across B.C. dealing with an infestation of stinging ants.

Grenz says the biggest risk is having multiple stings, which can lead to an allergic reaction – or anaphylaxis. “You can go into shock from the venom,” she said.
Brenda Stockel, a dog walker with Bark and Fly Pet Services, says dogs who deviate from the marked trails are bit frequently – and severely.
“They just instantly crawl up their legs, they get caught in their fur and between their paw pads and just keep biting repeatedly,” she told CTV News.
Stockel said many dog walkers have altered their route to avoid the wooded area where the ants are falling off of tree branches. “If they fall off a tree onto your shirt they will just keep biting you. And it stings. You’ll get welts,” she said.

The Richmond park is one of 23 across B.C. that is experiencing a problem with the tiny red-brown menaces, which are just four millimetres long.
Virtually every municipality in Metro Vancouver has experienced these ants in the past two years, and the problem is particularly bad in Richmond, Burnaby, North Vancouver and Vancouver. The iconic VanDusen Botanical Gardens in Vancouver have even erected a sign warning visitors to the problem.
Grenz says eradicating the ants is very difficult and labour-intensive because the problem is a moving target: ants hitch a ride to new locations during soil remediation projects, including land development. She’d like to see a provincial eradication plan, as well as soil remediation legislation that deals specifically with invasive plants and pests. “The ants love to be in the places we love to be -- our backyards, community gardens, parks,” Grenz said. “The major challenge is that there’s no silver bullet.”

Metro Vancouver has released a list of tips for people to keep safe if they encounter fire ants:
- Do not move ants, plants, soil and debris material from infested areas
- Avoid remaining stationary in infested area
- European fire ants can be aggressive in defending their territory. If nests are disturbed the ants may swarm and deliver painful stings
- Infants, children and pets may be more affected by stings
- If experiencing a stronger reaction than minor swelling, redness, discomfort and itching call HealthLinkBC at 811 for symptom advice. An extreme allergic anaphylactic reaction can be life-threatening and requires emergency care.

Archie Comics has revealed that beloved character Archie Andrews will die in "Life with Archie" #36 in July. The "Life with Archie" series tells stories of future scenarios for Archie and his friends in Riverdale. The present-day Archie stories will not be affected.

It was all hypothetical and just runs through how it would be if he married either Betty or Veronica, it never actually commits him to either one. I'm not sure if anything new has come out since though

Since the common courtesy rule was implemented.

It is probable that the actual paperwork get fastforwarded ahead of time or the item arrived too late to clear.

Bonus 1 - Anyone who sees it will be reminded that their shit could get fucked up if they park like an asshole.

Bonus 2 - Owner of the car had to wait there, in shame, while the firefighters did their thing and either won't get covered by insurance or if he does, premiums will go way up.

I didn't even know this by-law exist until now...

I parked in front of someone's house, i didn't block the drive way. in fact, they had garbage can on the curb so my car was parked, garbage can and some away from the drive way.
No "no parking" sign, no yellow mark on the curb, there isn't even side walk.

I see so many parked cars right next to curb, yet never seen anyone get ticketed...

1 is too BMW.

2 is just ok.

3 is too curvy.

I suggest TE37s.

They're hands down the best suited wheel to a TL.

They should be relatively widely available second hand, too.

The savings you could have from buying second hand could be put towards lowering springs, which is essential in my mind.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I am talking with owner of a used set of #2 so we will see how that goes. Problem with TE37 is a lot of people are rockin them and the used market is all reps or 4k te37sl's

Im not too keen on lowering springs cause my driveway is retarded and i literally scrape occasionally at stock height. Maybe some H&R sports is all i can do but i'd have to do some measuring first.

FC3S RX7 guys: I have a 1987 GL that came with an unlabeled fill cap on the coolant fill neck on the engine block, the block has a nipple going to the overflow, there was no location for a rad cap on the rad. I have replaced the rad with a new one that has a cap on it and a nipple to go to an overflow. What should I be doing with each cap location (no pressure fill cap or 13lb cap) and where should the nipples be connected?

You might want to pull the rad, since the head of the screw sticks out I'd say grab a file/hacksaw and cut a slot into it so you can try to use a flat screwdriver to get it out.

OR you can try filing down two flat spots opposite each other on the outside so that you have two flat edges to clamp down on with vicegrips or pliers, the head doesn't look very thick tho.

Heat and vibration will do the trick, but it's not possible in this case. Another possibility is to drill out or cut off the bolt heads and remove the IAC valve. Once that's out of the way, the bolt threads would be exposed, allowing penetrating oil to get at it. Plus, there would be enough material to clamp needle nose vice grips on. Hopefully, the bolt won't break.

The problem with those things is clearance. You have to put your drill to be perpendicular to the screw for it to work. If your drill is too big, it just won't fit.

My suggestion to your problem would be remove the other T8, loosen enough you can pour in some lubricate to the metal block, do a heat and cold cycle and try again.

I used a screwdriver with a T8 bit at first, the allen keys can't grip the screw.

Shouldn't be too hard to take it off but it's a pain since the intake manifold and throttle body are all one piece.

The head is already fucked by the looks of it, and there's a lot of rubber/plastic near there that looks like it won't appreciate being torched.

Cartwheeling Spider Discovered | I Fucking Love Science (http://www.iflscience.com/plants-and-animals/cartwheeling-spider-discovered)

:heckno:

Tabacha and Tabbot - YouTube

A new species of spider has been discovered in Morocco, and it’s quite the gymnast. Cebrennus rechenbergi, which lives in the sand desert Erg Chebbi, is the first species of spider documented to project itself across the sand through cartwheel-like motions. The discovery has been published in the journal Zootaxa.

A similar tumbleweed style spider has been previously described, the golden rolling spider, but this spider is restricted in its agility since it is only able to roll down hills. The arachnid acrobat C. rechenbergi in contrast can propel itself off the ground and initiate “flic-flac” jumps that allow it to travel both along flat ground and uphill. Impressively, this bizarre skill allows the spider to move twice as fast as if it were walking, around two meters per second, and uses it as a getaway card when potential predators approach.

This intriguing spider is also quite the architect; it uses its silk threads to build tubular structures in the sand that protect it from the blaring sun and predators.

This spider appears very similar to another species in found in Tunisia called Cebrennus villosus, but spider expert Dr. Peter Jäger was able to deduce that they were indeed different species since they possessed slight differences in their sex organs. “However, the unique mode of locomotion also serves as a criterion to distinguish the species,” says Dr. Jäger.

The discoverer of the spider, bionics expert Ingo Rechenberg, was so impressed by this springy arachnid that he used it as inspiration for a new robot which has been named “Tabbot” after the Berber word for spider, Tabacha. This robot can both walk and somersault along surfaces, and Rechenberg believes that it may be a useful style of locomotion for robots used to explore the bottom of the sea or even Mars.

Check out a YouTube video of the spider and robot in action here (unfortunately the audio is in German):

Pornhub is planting a tree for every 100 videos you watch (http://www.dailydot.com/lifestyle/pornhub-arbor-day/)

:jizz:

Whenever there’s a national holiday, like Valentine’s Day or the Jewish harvest celebration Sukkot, it’s a safe bet that porn streaming giant Pornhub will be on hand with a vaguely holiday-themed promotional campaign, like unlimited free mobile access or clips of busty young Semitic women doing unspeakable things with a lulav and etrog.

In keeping with this tradition, Pornhub is launching a campaign to celebrate Arbor Day. The website is offering to plant a tree for every 100 videos watched. The title of the campaign? “Pornhub Gives America Wood.” (Get it?)

According to the (SFW) website for Pornhub’s campaign, in the week following Arbor Day on April 25, Pornhub is donating one tree for every 100 videos watched in its “big dick” category. “While you’re watching some nice pieces of ash, you’ll also be helping spruce America up! (Bushes are optional),” the website says.

Although Pornhub is keeping a running tally of how many trees it’ll plant so far—as of now, the number is at more than 10,000, if the campaign’s page is to believed—it’s unclear where the trees will be planted, or what environmental organization the company plans to work with. (Pornhub’s PR director says they’re currently considering one of three).

But whether or not Pornhub’s dreams of saving the planet through well-endowed studs will actually come to fruition, with this latest initiative, perhaps the website is planting the seeds (wordplay!) for a larger demonstration of its commitment to environmentalism. Think an NBC-esque initiative where Pornhub exclusively features green-themed entertainment, or fossil fuel divestment campaign ads popping up before videos.

Either way, how hilarious would it be if a hundred years from now, we could tell our children and grandchildren that a streaming hardcore porn website was singlehandedly responsible for stopping global warming?

Where to grab a roll of the thin, doubled sided 3M tape for re-attching car emblems?

Looked at Canadian Tire last time I was there, although they had some 3M moulding tape, which would have worked, it was way too thick. Sure I could cut thinner strips, but I know a thinner roll exisits lol.

I'm sure Lordco has it, but don't feel like getting dry raped in the ass, and paying double for a roll of tape. I know I've seen it before, I just can't remember where lol

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's a comprehensive claim and you'd have to pay a deductible, although it shouldn't raise your premiums. If you have a $500 deductible or no comp. coverage, diy'ing it might be best. However, if you're covered and have a $300 deductible and more damage than a hood and headlight, claiming it might be a better option. I'm sure the parts cost isn't going to be much but if you have to start pulling and painting, you'd come out ahead just going through ICBC.

That would be through WCB as long as you were using it for work and not borrowing the vehicle to use personally.

Darth Vader detained as the Force triumphs in BC | News1130 (http://www.news1130.com/2014/05/07/darth-vader-detained-as-the-force-triumphs-in-bc/)

Police in Vancouver didn’t have to travel to an intergalactic outpost to find Darth Vader when they arrested the Star Wars villain near the neighbourhood of Shaughnessy.

Sgt. Randy Fincham says police quickly determined they weren’t dealing with Luke Skywalker’s heavy-breathing but powerful dad when they responded early Tuesday to a robbery involving a suspect wearing a Darth Vader mask.

He says the 23-year-old victim reported she was unhurt but that her attacker was a woman who’d pointed a gun at her and escaped with a small amount of cash.

In the absence of Tie fighter patrols, a 911 call helped lead police to a suspect, who was not far away and still wearing the mask.

A search revealed the 20-year-old didn’t have a light sabre but was armed with a replica firearm, and Fincham says police will be seeking charges related to robbery and weapons offences.

Fincham says unfortunately for this robber, she underestimated the power of the force.

Anyone know the personal exemptions for a China Passport holder if they go down to the states (and link)? Is it the same as a Canadian resident, where the only difference is the China Passport holder needs a visa?

Trying to look on cbsa site but can't find it.

Canadian exemptions: http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel-voyage/bgb-rmf-eng.html
Non-Resident Info: http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/noncan-eng.html

And if the goods are going to China and not staying in Canada, are there any tax exemptions in that?

So they have the same personal exemptions as Canadians and they do not get any special exemptions if they are claiming things are going back to China.

So they have the same personal exemptions as Canadians and they do not get any special exemptions if they are claiming things are going back to China.

Are they just in Canada visiting? If so, I'd arrange the shopping trip down to US about a week or two before they go back. When traveling back to Canada, just tell the custom that they are heading back to China (bring a copy of ticket as proof) and all the purchases will be leaving Canada.

Usually, custom dude would just wave them through as technically, if they have paid GST/HST for importing merchandise that would be permanently exported after entering Canada, they would be able to claim those back. I have done many times with my in-laws. And only once were we sent inside. But when we got inside, they guy saw my in-laws' stuff and ticket, they just told us not to worry about it and sent us away.

If they are residents (including study/work permit), it's the same as any of us.

Hey guys, need some advice.
I was driving home tonight and as I was going up the same hill I always go up, my headlights cut out to my DRL for half a second and turned on again.
At the same time, my TCS/DSC light came on for half a second and then turned off.

I was almost home but I drove around for about 5 minutes to see if it would happen again but it didn't.
Is this something I should be worried about?

Costco Shopping Advice Winners and Losers - Consumer Reports News (http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2014/05/best-and-worst-costco-products/index.htm)

Costco winners
Bacon. Mmm, bacon—to quote the great ham-loving Homer Simpson. We think he'd go along with our testers, who gave Kirkland Signature Regular Sliced Bacon, $14 for a 64-ounce package, top marks in our latest bacon test. The strips crisped up nicely, with a balance of fat and meat flavors, complemented by wood smoke and a hint of sweetness.

Car battery. Suitable for large cars, trucks, and sport-utility vehicles from Ford or Mercury, the Kirkland Signature 12866, $85, aced all of our tests, nearly beating out the category's top-rated pick from Interstate, which sells for $280. If you drive another type of vehicle, see our full battery Ratings, since there are other Kirkland batteries that performed very well in our tests, though they missed our recommended list.

Coffeemaker. Costco's well-priced Mr. Coffee BVMC-EHX33CP, $30, is one of the highest scoring models in our Ratings of drip coffeemakers. Its brew performance was outstanding, and we also found it convenient and easy to handle. Programmable settings let you set when the machine starts to brew, helpful if you like waking up to the aroma of coffee.

Ice cream. Beating out brands such as Breyers and Baskin-Robbins, the Kirkland Signature Super Premium Vanilla was described by our ice cream tasters as full and dense with big dairy flavor and complex vanilla-extract flavor, though some commented that it could be slightly gummy at times. It works out to about 30 cents per serving, compared with a dollar per serving for the top-rated Ben & Jerry's.

Laundry detergent. Our winner's list of detergents that can be used in all types of washing machines includes the Kirkland Signature Ultra Clean, a CR Best Buy that works out to just 9 cents per load. The powder detergent was tough on grass, blood, and ring-around-the-collar. If you prefer the convenience of a laundry pod, consider the Kirkland Signature Ultra Clean Pacs, 14 cents per load.

Urban Islands 4-Burner by Bull
Costco losers
Gas grill. At $1,600, the Costco exclusive Urban Islands 4-Burner by Bull is actually more expensive than most midsize grills in our gas grill Ratings. And it's nowhere near as proficient as our top-rated models. It's particularly bad at maintaining even heat at high temperatures, a must for perfectly seared steaks. A better bet from Costco is the KitchenAid 720-0733A for $750, which misses our recommended list but was very good overall.

Gel dishwasher detergent. With an overall score of 34, the Kirkland Signature Gel is one of our lowest-rated detergents. It struggled with dishes, pots and pans, and resistance to water spots. But all is not lost in the Costco detergent aisle. While it fell short of our picks list, the Kirkland Signature Dishwasher Pacs was very good or better in each of our tests.

Facial tissue. With an overall score of 60, Kirkland Signature facial tissue, $1.23, is middle of the pack in our facial tissue Ratings. So-so strength is its big shortcoming, though the tissue is pretty soft. A better bargain buy is the Puffs Basic, $1.23, which combines superb softness with very good strength.

Mattress. The best mattresses in our Ratings offer very good, if not excellent, support for back or side sleepers. Costco's $1,100 Ara 13" 100% Visco Memory Foam is just so-so for side sleepers and even worse for people who sleep on their back. It's also mediocre at providing stabilization.

Toilet paper. Though it's quite soft, Kirkland Signature toilet paper offers only so-so strength and tearing ease, making it an also ran in our toilet paper Ratings. Though it costs twice as much, White Cloud 3-Ply Ultra, a Walmart exclusive, combines superb strength and softness, making it our top-rated toilet paper by a wide margin.

Shop at Walmart? Check out what to get and what to forget.
