The Costco here didn't have that one in stock so I couldn't get it, but they did have the Cuckoo CR-0632F https://www.cuckooamerica.ca/products/cr-0632f so I picked it up for $129 since it was 5 mins to close lol. I cringe each time.

Removing white oxidation from plastic eyeglasses ? Condensed Considerations (http://blog.cassandrahunt.com/removing-white-oxidation-from-plastic-eyeglasses)

So i wear glasses and some of my plastic frames were turning white from oxidation.

Apparently if you take a mr clean magic eraser, it'll remove this white layer and then you find a good sealant (like the same stuff used in headlight restoration kit) and presto.

Internet is so cool, you can find an answer to almost anything. I used to buy new glasses every time the frame turned white.

All Koreans use Cuckoo lol, Cuchen is another brand but less favoured. You can get decent deals at H-Mart for Cuckoo, and it's a lot more expensive because it's a pressure cooker capable of doing a lot of things, ie. make rice cake, etc. Ours is 8 years old and still going strong.

I started to get on the vinyl bandwagon again. Went to Sunrise Records in Metropolis. What a mess of a place. Their LP's are jammed into the bins. So much so, you can't even pull them out to look at them. You have to pull out a few dozen (with great effort) just so you can flip through them. I just left. Nothing was where they were supposed to be. People working there didn't know much.

On my recent trip to Bellingham, I decided to look for records. Didn't go to the smaller independent stores downtown, but went to big box stores. Walmart, Target, Best Buy. Damn, records in translucent colours. I saw Guardians of the Galaxy Soundtrack Vinyl in funky colors. I already have volume 1, but wanted to get the funky colored "deluxe" version. The one I have at home was purchased at London Drugs. Produced by Back to Black. Worst record I have ever dealt with. The hole was so small I had to force the record to sit on the platter. The edges were full of sharp imperfections and the surface was riddled with vinyl pieces. After cleaning it up. I realized the wound was horrible. Listening to the one I purchased in Bellingham, it was better, but the sound was off. Something wasn't right. Researching via Internet revealed this was done on purpose. To recreate the sound of cassette........... W-T-F? I'm keeping it anyway, the funky red and yellow is kind of cool. Sound engineers got away with this one. BTW, coloured vinyl is not better or worse, sound wise (with some exceptions).

Anyway, I wasn't about to give up on vinyl just yet. I went to this little local record shop on Hastings called, "Hooked on Phono," this afternoon. I keep thinking hooked on phonics, lol. Dude working there was very knowledgeable. A good salesman. Got a few things wrong, but generally a good guy. I purchased some used LP's of Chuck Mangione. Children of Sanchez and Live at Hollywood Bowl. After seeing what I had chosen, he put me onto an LP I already had in my collection Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Band. He told me this thing was engineered properly and remastered with care. I'm not a fan of anything remastered, but thought I'd give it a go. I'm listening to it now and let me tell you it's gorgeous. My faith in vinyl has been restored. These newer remastered, low quality pressings are horrible. I guess when people listen to vinyl on Crossley's and Victrola's, little does the sound matter.

Friends don't let friends buy or listen to vinyl on those players. Nuff said.

Yup, I go there once in a while. Good people there, too. Neptoon and Audiopile on Commercial. Different folks there, Nothing wrong. Just don't feel too comfortable there. Maybe not white enough? Gulolol.............. I'm referring to Audiopile. Neptoon is very comfortable.

I miss Sikora's and even A&B Sound. OMG, pretty good bargains there on Boxing Day.

BTW, I have some very nice LP's stashed away. MoFi half speed and 45 rpm LP's from them. Too scared to open them. Need to play them on a high end system, which I cannot afford. I have regular pressings of them, so............

Hell, I'm getting on in age. Maybe I'll crack 'em open............ or find someone who will let me listen to them on a minimum $30 000.00 + system (the turntable and preamp).

Take Five never sounded so good. A piece in 5/4 time........... I love it.

The thing about vinyl is that you have to research for those that are not digitally remastered or worse, digital master in the first place.

Anything that was recorded digitally or digitally remastered would not give you a sense of what vinyl is capable of. Since they basically took a digital signal and use some converter or even added that "warmth" of vinyl after.

I suggest to start hunting for vintage vinyls from collectors who know how to keep their shit. They might not be cheap, but the sound is like nothing else.

MG1

Better than vinyl is tape. Problem with tape is, info on it fades over time. Reel to reel from original masters. Very very few examples of good tapes were ever produced for retail sales. While on topic of tapes, I have a Nakamichi TD 1200 which is the car audio version of the famous Nakamichi Dragon. I have some amazing cassettes that were limited run copies made by Nakamichi themselves (okay, produced by other companies, like MFSL) to show off their machines. The Nak TD 1200 has some amazing tech incorporated in its design. Auto reverse playback with auto azimuth correction after direction change. I have to dig it out of storage. I even have some blank TDK all metal housing cassettes with acrylic facings. Quite expensive, but if you had a Nakamichi Dragon, that's the tape you used to record off your records. Original master tapes.............. damn, some people have them.

If you have a sealed, first pressing of Pearly Jam's Ten on cassette, it could net you up to $4000 on eBay. Others have sold for less, but still go for between $400 to $700, while a used copy averages about $20 or so.

Don't laugh, but 8 Track was a very capable system. Just never took off. Plus the run of the mill pre-recorded tapes, along with cassettes, and the players themselves, were horrible. Then, there was the dreaded tape jam and not surviving the elements.

I remember when CD's first came out. People were all over it. Lots of CD's were of poor quality. Just hold one up to the light. Holes, lol. Yup. Most holes came that way from the manufacturing process and usually don't cause any issues. Plus, players are capable of correcting the missing info. BTW, this is not related to CD rot. If you store CD's properly, you'll never experience CD rot. If you have CD rot, your CD's have been to very dirty places. Like a Surrey Ho................

Just ordered the Kevin Gray/Steve Hoffman cut, Fleetwood Mac - Rumours (180g 45rpm Vinyl 2LP). Best of the best version, so the reviews say. Pressed in Germany (Pallas). I have a generic remastered LP, which is fantastic, but reviews say this version blows all other versions out of the water. Hmmmmmmm............

On a whim, I also ordered a Japan pressed, Hybrid SACD of the same title. I have a DVD-Audio version of it, but want to compare the two versions. I am surprised MFSL (Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs) doesn't have any of Fleetwood Mac's albums. I guess can't get the rights to it?

My setup is a bit bastardized for the true vinyl experience but it’s pretty awesome nonetheless

So I’ve got my record player - Sonos amp - hardwired ceiling speakers (courtesy of Punkwax, still appreciate the hook up!)

Then.. the Sonos amp is the backbone component for the wireless Sonos Plays. So the Sonos amp takes in the analog signal through two RCA’s, spits it out on the hardwired ceiling speakers but also plays the analog vinyl over the wireless Play speakers. So you’re listening to it anywhere in the house.

Obviously that’s like totally against the whole idea of vinyl and I’m sure even the amp to the ceiling speakers is doing some sort of conversion. Still sounds pretty great though

We’ve got a bunch of original first print vinyl like Rolling Stones etc. and man the sound they provide is pretty great

I’ve got a huge stack of stuff I have no interest in though, I’ll see if I still have the list somewhere as I priced it all out before. I’ll give the stuff I don’t want to anyone who wants it for free if I can find the list again

Had a reality check of my age smack me in the face a few months ago.
Had to drive up to Cumberland for a project, so I took my 20 year old Uvic coop student with me. There was a little record shop up there, and he asked if we could stop in there and I said sure.

So here I am looking to add some Hendrix and Marley to my collection, he finds Radiohead The Bends. I'm like "Fuck, I bought that album on CD when it was released, thanks for making me feel old"

Just found a box of LP's. Most are still sealed. Playing Heart's Dreamboat Annie, ATM. 176 versions of this album over the years. I think the one I have is one of the worst of the 176 versions, lol. I might have to go back to a conical stylus for these crappy LP's. My Nagaoka Elliptical stylus reveals too much. Cheap made in china Audio-Technica might do the trick............. or go buy a Victrola! Can't damage the records any more than the shape they come brand new. Hee hee, hue hue, pew pew.

Update: Upon closer look, as in magnifying glass, the Rumours LP I have has KPG/SH@ATM on the dead wax/run out groove. It's a Gray / Steve Hoffman cut. Nice!

And, I also found a Rumours DVD. The one that is full of interviews. Man, some interesting stuff. The band members and the sound/recording engineers. The production issues and personal conflicts. Drummer boy's wife was being screwed by his best friend "He's a good friend. I guess it's better someone you know than some stranger - twisted." Christine McVie (RIP) in Songbird. Brings tears to one's eyes. Stevie Nicks was surprised the album ever made it to production. Best $12.00 I've spent.

Silver Springs - Best song that never made it on the album because of the limits of vinyl. What a beautiful song.

Projected recovery date for the existing 13 day strike is/was already late august (if railcars were readily available which they are not right now). In reality my internal projections had recovery pegged in October. Given just how poorly rail performance usually is (like when the flood happened 2 years ago and it washed out rail lines).

one is if i choose to buy it out what the cost is (i have to confirm those #'s, seemed higher from what i recall).

one thing that jumped out in the email was a $900 admin fee added to the buyout costs.

pretty sure i was charged an admin fee ($500? i can't recall) when i signed up to lease the vehicle (maybe it was waived), but is it legit to charge another admin fee, and at $900 <- this seems steep

any way i can negotiate this out if i plan to buy out the vehicle end of lease, or do i have to eat it?

My rule for 24 joints are they're only meant for when everything is closed. That said, number 9 is as close as you can get to being maybe acceptable in the day time, maybe.

Oh the food is bad lol.. Well it's fine for what it is

What's wrong with #9? It used to be a decent late night spot when I was last in town (so mid 00's). I guess it makes sense that a place can really fall in 2 decades, but to be flameworthy is surprising

Food-wise, I don't think #9 is all that bad. It is certainly not great, but it is definitely passable. What irks me is the ridiculous price for the quality of food that they're charging. If you are charging me $5 for a $5 bowl of noodles, I'd really be OK with that. If you're charging me $3 for a $5 bowl of noodles, I'd call it a good place. But to charge me $10 for a $5 bowl of noodles? Come on, man. At that point, it becomes a ripoff.

Okay guys, theoretical question time -- I am working on a project and coming up with questions to ask someone who is saying their seatbelt failed on their vehicle and taking this complaint from them with a mind toward their possibly being a recallable issue with it.

Any brainstorms for questions to ask the complainant?

Some ideas I had that could be factors:
- What type of vehicle does the person have and what trim level/options/features does it have
- Is there an existing reacall for this vehicle
- Was this vehicle purchased in Canada or out of country
- Was the vehicle in an accident before, if so what type
- Have the seatbelts ever been recalled before
- Was the person wearing anything that day that might have hit the unlock button
- Has the person worn anything that might have caused the seatbelt to fray
- Are they sure they buckled it properly or did they notice any warning chimes or flashing seatbelt lights

Anyone got other interesting ideas or questions or information resources that might be relevant?

Hiyashi Somen (Japanese Cold Noodles).

Having some right now.

Perfect for hot summer days...........

https://www.lafujimama.com/hiyashi-somen/

On occasion, I make the mentsuyu from scratch, but only if the kids come over. As a widower and basically on my own, I resort to using store bought ones. I do, however, add my own ingredients to it, like hayani kombu (kelp), chopped onions, and shiitake mushrooms. On the side or on top of the noodles, kizami shoji, chopped green onions, and seaweed salad (from Costco).

I get my kizami shoji from Darumaya in Richmond, but it's too far away and dangerous. I googled the stuff and found another place that carries it. https://morefoodsmart.com/products/momoya-kizami-shoga. Nice! The kizami shoga is like no other ginger out there. Seasoned and in oil. Chopped, not grated or a past. So, so good.

Somen I get from Yokoyaya (Kims Mart). Available just about everywhere else, btw. I only get the ones from Japan. Why on earth would you get ones from anywhere else?

Anyway, somen is very easy to make. Just don't overcook them and make sure they are chilled in ice water overnight.

I used to use traditional zaru for presentation, but can't find it. Here's a really easy to clean, plastic alternative. From Oomomo. https://www.oomomostore.com/products/soba-tray-w-noodle-drainer-square-bk-be-022318

BTW, cold soba is very popular, but somen does it for me.

I have the 65" of the 2021 model (QN90A). It's been a great TV for watching sports and console gaming. Gets significantly brighter than my LG C9 and no need to worry about burn-in.

The only thing you have to look out for is the dirty screen effect (DSE) on these panels when you get it.

Mine has a bit of DSE. I watch a lot of hockey, so it's a little noticeable because sometimes some parts of the ice might be darker.

Can't complain too much though, I got the TV for $1000, lol.

Cant do 77 cuz it'll have that nasty-looking gap. 85 is both max and minimal dimensions for that particular room. That 5 grand one is NEO QLED, it looks sharper and better than the regular QLED but i dont know if its that just the demo they are playing, or is it actually an improvement over QLED.

Sorry I should've clarified, it wasn't pixel density or anything fancy that was the problem. The screen was just physically too large to be looked at that close because it extended beyond a comfortable field of view.

Hondaracer

Both TV’s are now considered “older” technology, you’re paying a premium because it’s an 88”

In order to get current tech in QDOLED you’re gonna be looking at min 10k

Personally I’d side with Manic in buying newer tech VS size. But if this is just a room you won’t be using all the time the original TV you’re looking at will be fine

Razor did your TV ever have any issues? is it worthwhile paying for that warranty? all this newer tech is kinda annoying as even the best buy dude said they'll go within 5-10 years.

I don't usually pay for warranty, but I did pay for my LG C9's warranty because it was an open box display model (it had like 3500 hours already and it was an OLED) and it was uber discounted.

I ended up claiming warranty work with Asurion for a bunch of dead pixels. They gave me back all the money I paid (minus the insurance) in a Best Buy gift card, I sold that and used it to buy the QN90A that I have now.

I think with your credit card, two years of warranty is probably good. I think most issues with TVs happen within the first little bit anyways, but if you want peace of mind for like 3-5 years then yeah, you can get it. If you're going to get TV warranty, you gotta get it from Costco. 6 years of warranty for $130? Fuck yea!

If you're going to be using this in a bright room, you should stick with the Samsung. My QN90A is SIGNIFICANTLY brighter than my LG C9 by a long shot, whites look actually white with no annoying ABL when the brightness is higher, and no need to worry about burn-in (newer OLED panels don't really have that much of a risk anymore, but it's still a non-zero change).

If you're going to be using this in a basement/movie room, you should get an LG OLED. Since each pixel can turn on/off, there's absolutely no blooming which is great when watching movies and the infinite contrast is absolutely amazing.

I have the last year model in 75", QA75QN95B. It's been fine. I specifically got the 95B for the breakout box, but they axed it for 23. This is a mature 4k panel that will get minimal development so if you want it then get it. Most of Samsung's resources are going into their 8k panels and QDOLED. There were minimal changes from last year.

hey tool nerds, i need an air compressor at the house for small tasks. is 1 gallon enough? is 0.5hp fine?

i think the main reasons for having one would be pumping up bike tires, seating tubeless tires, and diy stuff (nailer/stapler). i want it to be light enough to move around and put on a shelf (20-30lbs is ok), and quiet as well. i think this pretty much limits me to 1 gallon unless i want to spend $500+ and even still it will be heavy. if i want to do tire rotations i'll just buy a 1/2" impact wrench since i already have some power tools and batteries.

I'm using a 3 gallon pancake for nailing trim and I get like 6-10 nails before the compressor kicks on. Using it to blow dusty things and it kicks on within 10 seconds. It's certainly not quiet. Not too bad in terms of portability.

Yeah for intermittent tools like nailer and inflating it will work great, but that's pretty much all it will be able to do. Forget about anything that uses constant air, ie: die grinders, paint guns, sanders, etc

I have a 240v 3hp 30 gallon and it can even struggle with those things.

For the tasks you've listed, I think you can still get away with just buying cordless electric tools.

For bike tires I use this: https://www.homedepot.ca/product/ridgid-18v-cordless-high-pressure-inflator-with-digital-gauge-tool-only-/1001547823
They also make nailers like this: https://www.homedepot.ca/product/ridgid-hyperdrive-18v-18-gauge-2-1-8-inch-brushless-cordless-brad-nailer/1000828866

Other brands have similar offerings.

I do have an oiless compressor (https://www.homedepot.ca/product/porter-cable-3-5-gal-135-psi-pancake-electric-air-compressor/1000657974) but it's pretty loud. If quiet is a top priority you should see if the tech for oiless has gotten any better in terms of noise. I don't use it nearly as much as I thought I would.

If you're buying new I'd go electric as well. I have a 2 gal and it does okay with nailers and quick bursts of bigger tools but that's about it, and it's really loud. The only things I bother to drag it out for are seating the bead on SUV tires and my headless pin nailer for trim. But I bought one of these (https://www.vevor.ca/air-compressors-c_11298/vevor-on-board-12v-air-compressor-150psi-6cfm-high-performance-universal-p_010400142889) for airing up after offroading and it flows enough to seat a bead so now all the compressor is only used for the pin nailer. I don't think there are many electric ones for whatever reason so if you're planning a lot of that air might still be a better deal.

If you are set on air iirc it's cfm @ psi you need to worry about. Look up the requirements for the tools you want to use and work backwards from there.

I think when it comes to compressors, you either go big or go home. This is from a person who went through 3 different compressors.

The idea is to get a large compressor and all the potential attachments that can be used for a whole variety of situations.

But from what's listed, and if you have no plan to expand your tool arsenal later on, just skip the compressor. It's not worth the trouble.

Retractible hose reel. Can't hear much at all. The last time I've used it? Can't remember. Milwaukee M12 M18 tools, ftmfw! I even check tire pressure with the M12 inflator Set the PSI and it does the rest. A little noisy, but what a joy to use. It comes with storage for accessories to pump up balls, inflatables, etc. I keep it in the car. Have two of them. They go on sale for $99.00. I got one for $90 from Home Depot. Price match/beat.

Cot Dam.............. went to Brentwood London Drugs. They didn't have any Avocato (cute play on the word). Manager told me it was very very popular. Sold out immediately. She looked up the item to see if any other locations had any left. I had thoughts of risking my life by going to the land where C-Lai's jump the curb and smash into stores............ Thankfully, Lougheed location had some left. I raced down there to get a couple. They are so cute. Anyway, forgot about the Fast & Furious Lego. They were supposed to have two. Well, they were MIA, like in, stolen. Same thoughts of C-Lai drivers came to mind. Then, the customer service guy there goes, "Hey, it looks like Brentwood has 20 of them in stock." Anyway, went back to Brentwood and got it there, gulolol. Most things like bobbleheads and Funko Pop never get it right. Nowhere near what the real thing looks like. Not with this Lego set. Is it just me or has the difference in gas prices between stations rather large recently? At any given time of day prices range between different companies and locations, maybe 3-5 cents sometimes slightly more. However, in the past couple weeks I've noticed a difference of 15 cents being very common. I ain't talking Super Save either but between the big companies. 2 weeks ago when I filled up at Chevon located at E 1st ave and Nanaimo it was x amount, within 10 mins as I drove South I passed by a 2 Petros and 2 Chevrons and they were 15 cents more. Tonight again I drove by a 2 Chevrons and 2 Petros both at 205.9 and ended up passing by Chevron at Marine and Main which was 189.9 all within basically the same timeframe. you gotta compare the rates and decide how sure you are that you won't need that money anytime soon. if it's like hardly any difference then i always prefer the flexibility to take the money out instead of locking it in. never know what life throws at you. in both cases definitely use your TFSA/RRSP if you still have room.

Badhobz

depending on time frame, i would say just throw it into your TFSA. if youre gonna buy like 5-10 years down the road, then throw it in an index fund and forget about it. It'll still perform quite well.

GIC is good too given the interest rates nowadays.

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/drive/mobility/article-average-price-of-a-new-car-tops-66000-as-drivers-wrestle-with-a-very/

Wild - that's the pre-tax price from what I can gather. Other than a trophy car (like the Porsche I'm dreaming about) I can't wrap my head around paying $66k for a car. Other than my RDX I've never paid more than $21k for a car - the idea that a new one goes for more than 3x that makes me shake my head.

Brace yourself. The average price of a new vehicle hit a record high in Canada in June – $66,288 – up 21 per cent in one year and 47 per cent over four years, according to AutoTrader.ca’s price index report.

That, combined with higher lease and finance rates, has accelerated auto loan delinquencies, prompting one industry expert to predict that drivers will be forced to downgrade their cars and extend the terms of their loans or leases to keep their payments manageable.

“You’re talking about double-digit increases. I don’t think we’ve seen that before,” said Baris Akyurek, vice-president of insights and intelligence at AutoTrader.ca, an online marketplace for new and used vehicles.

Alberta and British Columbia residents paid even more for new vehicles. In Alberta, the average price was $69,764 – an 18-per-cent increase from June, 2022, when it was $59,124. In British Columbia, it was $67,807 – a 19-per-cent increase from last June’s $57,025. Other provinces felt the pinch, too. In Ontario, new vehicle prices reached $64,807 – a 22-per-cent year-over-year rise compared with June, 2022′s $53,136. In Quebec, it was $64,215 – 27 per cent more than June, 2022, when it was $50,461.

As new car prices rise, the financial burden on Canadians keeps growing. The average amount financed for a new vehicle was $53,023 in the fourth quarter of 2022, compared with $42,359 for the same period four years ago, according to consumer research company J.D. Power. At the same time, interest rates for leasing new vehicles rose to 5.5 per cent for the fourth quarter of 2022 from 2.8 per cent in the same quarter of 2018.

With some economists predicting the Bank of Canada will continue to raise rates to tame inflation, there’s likely little relief in sight for Canadians. “I think we’re at a 7-per-cent average interest rate for vehicles. That has [had] an effect, but it hasn’t had [the] effect on demand as we thought it would, yet,” said Charles Bernard, lead economist at the Canadian Automobile Dealers Association, a federation of provincial and regional dealer associations. According to CADA’s 2022 data report, nearly 1.64 million new vehicles were sold across the country in 2022 at 3,430 automobile dealerships. For the end of 2023, Bernard is predicting sales of 1.7 million units.

In June, 2023, Canadians paid an average of $797 a month on a new car payment. That, too, has skyrocketed 38 per cent from June, 2019, when monthly payments were $577 a month, according to AutoTrader.

The purchase price and the financing rate is adding to the cost of vehicle ownership, said Rebekah Young, head of inclusion and resilience economics at the Bank of Nova Scotia. “Both of those drivers have been on the upswing. There’s not a lot of reprieve for people looking to finance a vehicle in this type of environment,” she said.

Daniel Ross, a senior analyst at Canadian Black Book, which tracks the value of used cars, says the effect of rising interest rates hasn’t really been felt yet. “But if you want to get into a new car with a new payment, it’s going to be a very surprising reality.

“The result will be consumers downgrading their vehicle and elongating their terms of financing or leasing. They’re looking at all avenues to make their monthly payment more palatable once they get into the new car market.”

Some Canadians are already feeling the financial stress of vehicle ownership. Auto loan delinquencies are rising at a much faster rate than other types of credit, according to a recent report from credit-rating agency Equifax.

“We are seeing delinquencies in the auto space ticking up and that adds on to the ability to qualify and the financing rates that consumers could face. Interest rates are high and still going higher and we know that institutions are being more careful now in their lending practices,” said Scotiabank’s Young.

Despite pent-up demand, low supply and other challenges to the supply chain, including the strike by port workers in British Columbia, new car inventory levels have been increasing, but the numbers are still below prepandemic levels.

“New inventory has been slowly, gradually, moving up. Based on the marketplace data, we’re up by 58 per cent for June, 2023, over June, 2022. But when you compare this data to 2019, we are down by 46 per cent. Despite the fact there has been improvement, we’re still well below 2019 levels,” said AutoTrader’s Akyurek.

“If you go to a [car dealer’s] lot and you want [a gas-powered] vehicle right now, supply is getting to a point where, most of the time, you’ll be able to get it at a price, to be fair, that is not even close to what the prepandemic prices were,” said CADA’s Bernard.

Boosting the price of new vehicles over all is the growing demand and tight supply of all-electric and hybrid vehicles, which have longer wait times and are more expensive to manufacture because they require different types of batteries, equipment and minerals.

What might help to ease the financial burden on Canadian car buyers? “Supply needs to catch up to demand. Until that supply-and-demand mismatch solves itself, we’re going to be looking at higher prices,” Akyurek said.

Once there’s greater supply, he said, “probably we’re going to start seeing some softening. But on the other hand, we do not expect the prices to go back to pre-COVID levels any time soon.”

I have no pulse on the market, but I wonder what sort of factors contribute to the higher average selling price.

For example, how much of the average price is affected because the buying population is now skewing to those that are in a better financial position and more insulated from rising interest rates?

The average monthly payment of $797 while the average sale price of ~$67k works out to roughly 84-month loans assuming no interest... Yikes.

Is there really any surprise on the price though?

We know the trend for the cost of new vehicles have been going up for some years now. And esp in the last few years (bcos of COVID, chips shortage, supply chain issues and what have you), manufacturers have been shifting production to higher margin vehicles.

The Alberta average does not surprise me -- Albertans buy a lot of trucks, and nowadays, trucks are not cheap at all.

In BC, we sell a ton of Teslas (and other EVs), and EVs generally cost quite a bit more than their ICE counterparts.

But $66k... nowadays, I think that's enough to buy a 981 base Cayman with a few options?

First home purchase? Open up a First Home Savings Account (FHSA). You get the benefits of an RRSP with a tax deduction on contributions for your tax return and the benefits of a TFSA with no tax on withdrawal as long as it's for a first home purchase.

I think there are some redeemable GICs that were paying almost 5% annual interest last month, maybe less now. You could probably hold those within the FHSA. Talk to someone about the right investment type for you though.

The only thing left is the Mirage. The effective shifts the bottom up to at least a Corolla level car. Couple that with the fact that due to shortage, most manufacturers would rather produce the high margin more expensive vehicles with their resources, and most manufacturers also hiking their prices with nary a discount in sight. Yeah I'm not surprised.

Had a mirage for a month in Portugal, in Europe though it’s rebranded as a “space star” lol

I’d definitely take it over a Fiat 500 but that’s a very, very, low bar lol

Damn, I think all the streets in chinatown should be shutdown to traffic. Have rickshaws take people around. That would be awesome. How about Gastown?

All kidding aside, I love my Honda Fit. The thing is (Knock on wood) so freaking reliable. At least the engine. I abuse it, too. Still break the tires in second gear, gulolol. It takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin' Had it since 2008. Sat not being driven for ages. Air con doesn't work anymore and too cheap to fix it. Other than that, happy as a clam driving it to Bellingham every week.

But it also seems to me that Aberdeen has been going hard at hosting different events in that open area lately. I'd say it's better usage of the space.

Moved the stylus over to the next track. Same thing. Then I realized her Red album is a 45 RPM, 12 inch record. Nice! The sound is pretty impressive for something from Target. The album is Made in France, BTW. The songs are all described as "Taylor's Version," whatever that means.............. I'm so not a Swiftie. Also did not know every song is written by her.

There was some drama I think where her old record label "owned" her songs so she couldn't play them or anything. She re-recorded and re-released them once whatever timeline ran out, hence "Taylor's version".

I'd have a hard time paying much over $600 to be honest... an alignment alone is $140+ at any decent shop, but $450+ for the spring install itself is getting up there... how many hours are they quoting? I would think a 2023 BRZ would be all minty and have no rusty or stuck bolts, so 5hrs+ seems like a lot. Should consider doing the job themselves and just getting the alignment after.

So, my 2004 Lexus IS300 sat for a couple of years before I started driving it more often in the last year or so... and since it was parked, I notice a light smell possibly like a moldy smell when I turn it on and the vents first start blowing. It goes away (or I can't notice it?) after a minute but the initial experience is obviously less than appealing.

Anyone with a similar issue had experience with a shop or process to clean up or sanitize their ventilation system?

Yeah... we're kind of sus on those rates. One shop just quoted the total, another shop quoted 6 hrs. These are well known shops.

I paid about $280 for my install back in 2016. Different car and different era, but I wasn't sure did inflation really hit that hard.

I've had it done at local shop like Garage5 and they quoted x number of hour which was close to $450-$500, I'd say 3-4 yrs ago now. I've often wondered if they go by book hours ... I just can't believe a shop with lift/hoist, right tools it would take 6 hrs for 4 corners.

I've done the lysol thing and it worked once (out of two times) for me. I have an ozone machine that I got off Amazon that I'm going to use on my RDX this weekend as it has a bit of a musty smell to it that I can't seem to get rid of. I tried to install coilovers myself and couldn't work through the rusty components since I bought a 10-year-old used Alberta car so I ended up going to one of the forum sponsors for it last month. I was quoted 5 hours for installation × $140/hr plus additional for alignment over the phone.

They ended up taking 6 hours for the install and 2.5 hours for the alignment.
8.5 hours × $140. Since it's a brand new BRZ, it should be easy for DIY though.

I felt like it was worth it despite the high labour cost because my shocks were very aged and there was no way I could have worked past the rustiness in a reasonable amount of time. The ride now is definitely a lot better over bumps.

The album is Made in France, BTW. The songs are all described as "Taylor's Version," whatever that means.............. I'm so not a Swiftie. Also did not know every song is written by her.

It's about the right of her original masters.

When someone owns the masters to any musical work, it means they have the full right of when, where and how those original songs can be played and collect royalty.

In the case of Taylor Swift, her old label owns all her masters. Thus preventing her to license her songs in any way she sees fit.

She still collects a royalty payment on the composition of those songs (publishing rights), but she has little say on what to do with the music say... a movie soundtrack or whatever.

After failing to recover those rights, she decided to re-record all those albums and call them "Taylor's Version". And this way... she owns the master (AKA the full right) to those songs.

And for example, if on Spotify you play the original version, the royalty splits and goes a portion to her old label, who owns the master right, a portion to TS for publishing rights of her works (more precisely to whoever wrote those songs) because you are playing the OG songs that are basically a copy of that original master that her old label owns.

It might seem like a money grab from TS, but it's actually not... if you bring the user case above I just wrote to say a movie studio comes and says they want to license a song to feature in a movie... it's the label who decides whether or not they can feature the song in the movie since they own the rights to the masters. Even if TS wants nothing to do with it... there isn't much she can do as the label owns the right to those original "recording of the song". All she can expect is some publishing royalty and that's it. It's not up to her.

Taylor's version, OTOH, means that the total control of those songs, should one decide to use it, it has to go through Taylor's decision.

Their website has always been a piece of shit so that's not totally surprising, but I imagine it's got to be borderline unusable when her tickets go on sale lol.

What'd be an interesting (but impossible to get) number is the total amount people have spent on tickets, not just revenues. When you see people paying scalpers a fortune for tickets in the nosebleeds the amount of money people have spent to see her would be even further ahead of the revenue numbers. I'm guessing at least part of that is people trying to show off by going to a show that they wouldn't have otherwise but it's still nuts.

I'm a fan of Tay Tay too particularly as she's grown up and taken some strong political stances. I'm not much of a concert goer since they are usually too loud for my damaged ears but I'd definitely go see her live (but after Adele and Beyonce) as she works her ass off to give her fans a show. 3.5 hour long show and it doesn't matter what the weather is.

That's fuckin Springsteen sets. Can't argue with that.

I enjoy tay tay music. It’s not too bad. Strange that she used to be a country singer and now she’s just like uhhhh pop-ish

Appealing to a wider audience to avoid being pigeonholed is marketing 101. Kane Brown did a similar thing. Got famous with country and is now dabbling in pop.

Dolly Parton recently released a rock album..

Long story short, people in the entertainment business know how to make money.

Her tour is expected to gross over a billion dollars. Setting a new record. Her tour uses 84 semi trucks for each show. it's crazy.

This is what made her a star. Check out the size of the mic.

How much are tickets for her concert? I took my gf to her concert in Chicago back in 2018 and they were $600 total for two tickets by the stage, can't remember if they were ticket master aftermarket tickets or regular priced tho

But I imagine this time around with the costs of everything it would be in the 1000s for one ticket :lol

Damn this is dope ... why can't our engineers think of things like this. Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel in Virginia, USA. Has anyone ever driven across and under this?

^I’m sure they have, but it’s probably too expensive to do without good reason. That said, maybe this can be our Massey tunnel replacement solution given how the governments flip flop between a tunnel and a bridge.

You should see the HK to Macau bridge / tunnel. That thing blows this outta the water.

^ just did a bit of googling ... the HK Macau one is LONG ass .. but what is weird is that I think Macau/China drives on the right hand side and HK drives on the left and you need special permit.

I think you have the bridge/tunnel if there are lots of ships that need to cross. I don't know how many ships need to cross Massey and it is short. What we need is a bridge like that to Victoria! Forget these delays, cancellations, mechanical ship failure, BS.

BC Ferries will be in shambles if they build a tunnel France / England style to connect the island to the lower mainland. And given our productivity level it'll take like 50+ years to get through all the red tape and NIMBYism that's going to appear.

We simply don't have the money or economic growth to justify large infrastructure projects like this (unfortunately).

Yah, and if any Prov government ever decided to do it ... then next government would revoke it. That and the $50B bridge will turn out to be $150B.

Those China men ... they are more than just good at moving !!

Fuck man this is why western society is getting left behind. ChiNAR wants a bridge they just build one. It’s done in like a few months.

We want a bridge, we need to ask everyone and their mothers for approval. Then it has to go through a gazillion tests and engineering oversight committees etc. by the time it’s all done the costs are 4x what was initially quoted and it’ll already underserve the needs of the people.

I’m trying to push Rob bank second terminal and got bogged down in environmental regulations and talks with the First Nations. Something about some fucking bird that isn’t even endangered but is at risk if we build robbank terminal 2.

Fuck you bird.

^Think Hong Kong had a similar problem when the airport tried to build a new runway in the same area, but instead of birds it's pink dolphins.

It's not easy to find a balance between China's method of 'we're doing this whether you like it or not' vs western method of 'let's consider everyone's concerns' (and take forever in the process) - each have their pros and cons.
