Oh ... variation on the pylon, marking construction.

So imagine those safety drums/barrels but collapsed down into itself like those metal shot glasses that fold down flat. What I’m seeing is only a few inches tall
I’ll try and get a pic
It’s literally flat, it’s not a construction thing etc. it doesn’t catch anyone’s eye or mark it unless you’re looking for it

Probably not, but could they be collapsable safety barrels?

Woke up early, decided to go for a spin (weather be damned). Ended up in porteau cove to watch some sea lions “sing” and saw a unmarked cop pull over this tesla model Y and tow his ride. These poor Chinese kids had all their ski equipment in hand while the cop left them in porteau cove. If they were skanky fob bitches, i would have offered 1 of them a ride (can only fit 1 in the ratrolla anyways).
Currently grabbing an espresso at Isetta Cafe in West van while chatting with these BMW dudes. This place is pretty nice but the food/coffee is a bit overpriced.

I mean it was pretty obvious to me he meant calling people retards, lol.
I've never heard anyone say "Bro, he dropped a hard R". People usually say "Shit, he called him a nigga with a hard R" or something like that. Then again, maybe it's because I don't have black friends, lol.
Hard Gay, saying Hard AAAAArrrrrr...................
I thought Hard R was retarded. I got called out once, by a parent of a child with mental challenges............ She was sort of nice about it.
It's really gay and retarded. Gotta love RS. I can say those words and nobody gives two shits, because everybody knows it wasn't meant to describe people who actually are retarded or gay. I mean I'm a gay guy. Always happy go lucky. It used to be such a nice word, too. The Gay Nineties..............
In my house, I call weird things gay..... like mini forks, knives and spoons. "Hey, pass me the gay fork." I wouldn't say that outside the household, because people would be so fucking confused.
Oh, I get it........ saying nigga is not the same as saying same word with emphasis on the "R"??
BTW, I've never used that word at all. It's so retarded to do so. My best friend in high school was black We were like blossom buddies. Always up to no good.
I've only seen one member on RS get banned for saying the hard C word............... He posted, "Dirty.......... "C." We're not talking Billy Butcher's fav word.........
Plus, he never called anyone that. He was referring to what other students called that segment of the population. Those fucking Burger King sandwiches...........

I had a cappuccino there last November and found it fine - it was my first time there and was distracted by the atmosphere and its car-centric theme. The bottom of the mug has a small Isetta graphic which was a nice little surprise when I finished my drink.

Do they have a site?
I'm kind of wary dealing with "fob" service though... In the last place I had, I went that route with the help of my dad speaking fluent Chinese. After they were done, there was a poor connection at one of the roof drain pipes and it started leaking and formed ice puddles below during the winter. Even though we called them back and they said they will come back and fix it, they ghosted us multiple times. "All sales final" I guess. My dad eventually got into a shouting match with those guys over the phone and they were gone for good. lol..

Nope, no site. But us and two of my wife's aunts and uncles used them before and had no issues. But yeah it's gonna be risky if no sort of trusted referral.

Not sure if they're around still, but any issues I had, they came by to fix it. I got the contact from my neighbour.
If you do decide on a cover, make sure it is double layered, insulated one. My carport was single layer (didn't know any better) and when it snows, condensation forms and drips. Not a leak, but it's not great. The patio is covered with double layer and it does not leak at all.
I also had them install at glass cover over the door at the side of the house. It's perfect for those who want to stay dry while smoking outside, lol. I quit smoking decades ago, btw. Been smoking longer than most of you have been alive. Such a fucking filthy habit.

Why was the Tesla towed? Excessive speeding?
Yeah I’m sure it was because of speeding. I was up in porteau cove at 7:30am so these poor kids got pulled over at 7ish am on a Saturday. Those west van cops are always super aggressive and just waiting around lions bay.
Freaking hell............ took me forever to change all the clocks and watches around the house and even the car.
Dashcams, trailers, garage, every nook and cranny in the house. I have to have a clock in every room. I'm obsessed with knowing what time it is. Now that I have all these HomePod Minis, you'd think I could get rid of the clocks. Middle of night when eyes, can't open. "Hey Siri, what's the time?"
Another weird fact............... a lot of kids nowadays cannot read an analog clock. Like W-T-F????
Thank allah computers, phones and shit automatically adjust the time. I have two atomic clocks that I never have to touch, except to change the batteries.

The Whale was 9/10.
All shot within one room. What a film, Fraser absolutely killed that performance. At times I thought I was watching a documentary as opposed to a theatrical film.
The way they were able to use the mechanism of eating food as a method to make you cringe in his self-destruction was unbelievable.

Of all the nominees I only saw The Whale, EEAAO, and All Quiet on the Western Front.
The Whale was based on a play, which is probably why it "felt" so different. Took place entirely in his apartment, only 4 or 5 characters, etc.
EEAAO - I can see why this win can be controversial. Asian cast aside, I think a lot of boomers (like my dad) who never watch sci-fi can't really wrap their head around what a "multiverse" is and kept thinking things were happening chronologically or thru flashbacks/past lives. I also didn't think it was that great but entertaining nonetheless.
AQOTWF - One of the most depressing movies I've watched but absolutely deserving of it's Best Foreign Film award.

Well, who d'ya think should have won then? I think hardly anyone saw the other nominees in before the oscars announced them, myself included. So if you have tell me who's performance was clearly better. You can't really say it was a diversity hire without saying there was a better candidate.

100%. The movie let Michelle show her range - range that most actors simply don't have and range that went from action star to harried store owner to loving mom.

OMG, so high expectations, was really hoping that Everything, Everywhere, All at Once would be a great movie but it was a waste of 2+ hrs of my life. I would give it like a 1/10. Honestly, I could have fallen asleep after 15-20 mins but forced myself to stay awake. When I saw the third subtitle, 'All at Once' ... I thought to myself, oh gawd, please not another act to this torture.
I'm with Babhobz ... what range?! Yeoh was the same in every verse if you ask me. 95% of it was satirical humour, 5% good dialogue. I have watched classical kung fu movies so not a stranger to that genre. Hot dog finger verse ... holy shit! K, can someone explain that to me??!! I don't know how white people would sit through that and read the subtitles for 80% of the movie. The daughter was prob the best actor/ress in this movie. Jamie Lee Curtis, are you kidding me? I actually didn't see any of the other best actress nominated movies other than the clip at the oscars but the 5 sec clips showed more range of other nominees than Yeoh.
If you can't tell, hugely hugely disappointed.

You know he didn't play a literal whale right? He played a depressed obese middle-aged American, which is probably not much of a stretch for Fraser if you read what happened to him. The fact is he played it with enough conviction and sincerity that he was recognized as the "best" for this year. Just because something is familiar to you doesn't mean you can't excel at it in the eyes of others. Jesus christ it's not like they gave them the award for Best supporting Actor/ Best Actress EVER. Just THIS year.
Still no one can answer why the Academy and practically every other major award gave it to Quan and Yeoh? They must all be woke brainwashed and run by the same cabal of Hollywood woke-sters I suppose! Even the Foreign Press! Even the Brits!

What's so special about Will Smith? He played a middle aged black father but he is one (King Richard)
What's so special about Anthony Hopkins? He played an old white man and he's one too! (The Father)
Yes Asians who make up 5% of the population of the US. Asians who were ignored for over a century of cinema and pigeonholed into stereotypes. China doesn't give a fuck about Asian American stories. So let's all of a sudden give it to the Asian-American so we can sell more tickets....to Asians? :awwyeah:
Again, who is rigging every single fucking award show this year to give it to them?
We get it you don't like her performance but you don't have to diminish it down to racial preference.
sonick
03-14-2023, 08:50 AM
It's not rigging, they campaigned the shit out of EEAAO. And they had a full year to get voters to watch, and re-watch it again.
It's not 'rigged' in that voters did not actively coordinate to vote a certain way, but it's also not purely due to merit either. Voters vote for whats popular, what's in their face through marketing/promotions, and what the narrative is in society at the time.
Back in the day thats how Miramax did so well, Harvey Weinstein (outside of his sexual coercion) was a great promotor during awards season.

These movies aren't just shown in NORTH AMERICA RIGHT? its an international audience and garners quite a bit of their sales from international markets. Crazy rich Asians took in 1/3 of their total gross from international markets (mainly asian nations).
Especially with an all Asian cast of course these movies are targeted towards a more international audience. if you dont think that money/marketing has any validity in these award shows then you must really live in a bubble. im sure this wasnt the only factor their decision making, but its a factor.
CivicBlues
03-14-2023, 08:58 AM
Ok so now why now all of a sudden? Why didn't they give an award to Crazy Rich Asians, Shang Chi, Minari or any number of indie AsianAm films that came out in the past 20 years? Why this particular indie flick? Of course money has a say in it but this particular one had arguably way less money backing it than the others.
Who are they trying to market to China? The nation they're actively trying to decouple from and demonize? No? Taiwan? Malaysia? Minuscule niche markets of less than 30 million? The rest of Asia doesn't give a fuck. China doesn't give a fuck about Asian-American stories. They didn't give a fuck about CRA or Marvel's Shang Chi and that's a fucking mass market action movie.
Who in China or Asia is going to watch some weird-ass movie about the multiverse and Mother-Daughter relationships because it has some Asian faces on it. Come on man use some common sense you're the one stretching here.

cuz those movies were absolute dog shit. One can argue this everything movie is more of an artist piece and not a traditional mass market flick. Why did they gave it to parasite last year then? indie flicks are what hollywood loves to promote. better if they can market it as being inclusive of all ethnicities (life of pi, etc).
You dont think they are marketing towards china and asians in general? The chinese movie market rivals that of the US.

Even if Brendan was a skinny dude his whole life, I don't understand this outrage people seem to have these days about people ACTING. It's literally their job to be someone they are not.
To be able to step into the shoes of someone very unfamiliar to you and completely knock it out of the park is a real talent, yet today it's met with hostility because they aren't that way in real life.
People love to bitch these days man.

cuz those movies were absolute dog shit.
The chinese movie market rivals that of the US.

get your head out of your ass.
Yeah they market high-budget, action flicks with little to no cultural baggage to China. Not smart indie flicks that fly over the head of most of the older audience in America, let alone Asia. Like I said, who is going to watch this in China?

2022 wasn't particularly a good year for films, let's be real here. Many of the feels released last year were filmed during COVID.
Michelle deserved the win, she was fine. Oscars always do this shit where they have a lovefest on one film, this year it was EEAAO.
It was a decent film, but not my favorite, the GF loved it though.
I found it to be one of those films that goes out of its way to be "purposely" obtuse in order to seem deep, tons of Easter eggs and the like that you'll miss if you're not paying attention. I felt it had too many plot devices that weren't fletched out or explained properly, but that's just me.
I much more enjoyed The Whale and All Quiet On The Western Front, but damn, we've seen enough WW1/2 films winning Oscars :lol
Manic!

EEAAO was a great film. Nice to see a movie that's not the 20th instalment of some franchise.
The whale was also another great film that was 100% story driven.
We need more lower budget films. EEAAO cost 25 mill to make and the whale cost 3 million to make.

When it got to that point early on when it runs credits like the movie is over buddy gets up just ripped and is like hmm.. what a weird movie?!? Convinced it’s over lol

Count me in as those who did not enjoy EEOAO.
I watched EEOAO and turned it off when I saw the screen say "Third Act" or whatever, due to long dragged out boredom and predictability, and finished watching it a few days later just for some closure.
This was before the show won any awards and I didn't even know the plot or type of movie it was. I just thought it was be cool to see a mostly asian-cast movie.
So yes, I am very surprised by all the wins that followed it.

Yup. Basically two people have to vouch for you and the vetting process begins (application process). People of good moral standing. It’s not a social climbing type of organization. Every lodge is slightly different. Not saying anymore. Visit a lodge yourself (with a member).

I had an invite to become an Odd Fellow, which is kind of like cousins to Freemasons as far as Fraternal organizations go.
A bunch of guys from my wife's former workplace are members.
That kind of thing is not really for me, but I could tell that business networking does definitely happen through those places. And they have a really nice hall in downtown Victoria with a beautiful billiards room (A few of her Christmas were at that hall). Would have been neat to have access to that.
Yup. Basically two people have to vouch for you and the vetting process begins (application process).

Addendum.
Honestly, we humans have a need to belong. Look at Biker Gangs, boys who never grew up is basically what that scene is about. Still the need to scratch an itch is accomplished. Even Revscene............ Fraternity............ oh, oh, ohhhhhhhh..... sorority............ nuff said. Why did I have to bring that up?
These organizations run on various levels. Most members don't see what happens at the top levels. Opening the organization up to non-whites, people of all types is a way to keep their secrets, well, safe. The organization is based on good things (on the outside) and they're doing a great job of changing their somewhat negative image. Every organization, whether it be secular or non-secular, is based on control. If you become a member of these organizations, you feel so special, since not everybody can become a member. For most of these groups, if you have a criminal record, you might as well kiss becoming a member goodbye. If you have questionable moral and ethical, you might as well do same. These organizations do a lot of charity work. Networking? Yeah, you know it happens no matter what - brotherhood. Like a union. In fact, a union is so much like................ I'm spending more time on this subject than I need to. All I want is that cool logo on the rear of my cars, gulolol.

Ah, that reminds me of On Lok on E. Hastings. https://www.onlokrestaurant.com/
My dad worked there for 20+ years. If you ever ate there after 5PM Tuesday to Sunday, you've probably seen or met my dad.
It's probably your last stereotypical greasy/dirty HK style diner in all of Vancouver. Sticky floors, interior from the 1980s, picnic table covers, open noodle kitchen, rude waitresses.. you get the idea. That food raised me and my two brothers, and while this could be the nostalgia hitting me, I've yet to have a better wonton noodle soup.
My mom spoke to the owner recently and they said they're thinking of closing down the restaurant, so visit the restaurant if you're in the area and this type of food/vibe is up your alley. I personally want to revisit the restaurant myself for a meal, but it's a little difficult since my dad passed away recently in 2021 and I'm sure the feels are gonna hit me hard.
BTW, my dad made that sign in front of the noodle kitchen. He used to make a new one every couple of years when the prices changed, but it's probably at least a decade old now since he retired in 2015 - https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FSDBRe8VgAAHVAw?format=jpg

Yeah, I don't think there's very many reasons to go to Chinatown nowadays, especially for the younger folks. Maybe on the edge for restaurants like Phnom Penh, but yeah.
Even folks like my mom don't go to Chinatown anymore. Growing up as a low income family, we went to Chinatown all the time to visit my grandma, grab cheap groceries, BBQ meats and dry goods from Rice World.
Ever since Crystal Mall opened in the early 2000s, she goes to Chinatown maybe twice a year max, mostly to buy incense and paper money and to deposit/withdraw stuff from the safety deposit box.

Traffic light question............
Broadway eastbound at Underhill. Dead end. Two lights. One for left and one for right. Both red lights are usual solid red. Green is an arrow. I got honked today for mot turning right on the red.
My thinking is, why bother having the green arrow? Everybody knows that you can turn right on a red, unless otherwise noted.
Dude who honked at me, said you can turn on a red no matter what the green light is all about.
Okay, so what's the official ruling on this? In Washington, they have these flashing yellow turning lights that basically says you can proceed to turn if no car is coming.........
SkinnyPupp
03-17-2023, 12:06 AM
Pretty sure if you couldn't turn right on red, it would be a red arrow light rather than a regular one
SSM_DC5
03-17-2023, 04:14 AM
That intersection lacks a No right turn on red sign, so turning allowed.
https://www.drivesmartbc.ca/turns/right-turn-red
Think of this situation. Someone that doesn't know the area and that the green will be an arrow. They drive up to the light and see red, they make the turn and get pulled over because they didn't wait for the green arrow. Unfair for the driver to be penalized for not knowing that the green is an arrow.
The green arrow is more likely to be redundant in trying to tell drivers not to go straight.
Great68
03-17-2023, 06:41 AM
In that intersection, is it possible that Underhill southbound and northbound can be signalled separately?
Like Green for northbound traffic, while red southbound, which then makes the right turn light for Broadway traffic green?
underscore
03-17-2023, 07:34 AM
My thinking is, why bother having the green arrow?
Green arrow = turn without stopping
Red light = stop, then turn if clear
Red arrow = don't turn
No turn on red sign = don't turn
sonick
03-17-2023, 07:57 AM
Green arrow = turn without stopping
Red light = stop, then turn if clear
Red arrow = don't turn
No turn on red sign = don't turn
Or in Richmond:
Green arrow = turn without stopping
Red light = turn without stopping
Red arrow = turn without stopping
No turn on red sign = turn without stopping
It’s a dead end and going straight is not possible. Each light has a sign that reads “Left Turn Signal,” and, “Right Turn Signal.” They both turn green at the same time. Traffic from the left is a hill with a curve and people do speed. The right side (northbound) has a dedicated left turn light and a green up arrow for traffic wanting to go straight. Those lights turn green at different times. I guess it’s because of the limited vision issue. Next time I’m there, I’m going to turn right on the red and tell the police when pulled over RS told me it’s okay, because RS is always, “right.”
Great68
03-17-2023, 08:16 AM
I'm pretty sure that because it's a dedicated traffic signal for right turns (as noted by the sign), that supercedes the requirement for a "no right turn on red" sign.
Just like the "left turn signal" sign for the left turn lane at a standard intersection. Once that light is red, you can no longer enter the intersection at all even if the straight through lights are green.
TOS'd
03-17-2023, 08:41 AM
Can't remember if Vancouver have these, but they are common in Ontario.
Two right turn lanes coming off a highway off-ramp. No "no right turn on red" signs, so we can legally right turn from either of those lanes on a red light. The problem comes when the far-right lane does an improper right-turn and turns into the lane next to the far-right lane on the perpendicular street which is for the second right turn lane to turn into (blue arrow).
A lot of times you will also get someone in the blue arrow lane not turning right (when it is completely clear and safe) on a red because they don't know you are allowed to from the 2nd lane, meanwhile others are right turning from the far-right lane.

Anything remotely close to that is at Science World. I've seen some really stupid stuff happen there. No can't turn right on a red sign (as far as I know or recall). Pedestrian and bikes everywhere makes for a dangerous intersection.
Frick........... now I'm gonna have to check for cops before turning right on that red. So, Elton (the driver who honked at me), was wrong? He insisted he was right........... in a nice way.
I call chubby, balding, old caucasians, "Elton." Like the use of "Karen," to describe typical entitled women.
Or in Richmond:
Green arrow = turn without stopping
Red light = turn without stopping
Red arrow = turn without stopping
No turn on red sign = turn without stopping
Or, taking a wide turn like you're driving a tandem trailer or an eighteen wheeler, but it's a Corolla you're driving.
Same driver who goes back and forth in a parking stall multiple times, only to move the car over 6 mm.
Still, better than an Elton or a redneck in a truck, parking at a 30º angle at a Costco parking lot.

Smythe turning right into Seymour has both "right turn signal" and "no turning on red" signs. Road side court with the officer that there is no sign that prohibits turning on red.

Rupert onto E/B First Ave is also dual right turn lanes. I’ve asked the ICBC guys years ago when i renewed my driver license and the guy said it’s fine to turn right from the centre (non-curb turn lane) lane on a red when traffic is clear but just play safe and don’t do it on a road test lol. I do turn right from that 2nd lane when possible.
AFAIK red arrows don’t normally or formally exist in BC so we don’t have to worry about that
So the only signs that we have to be aware of are No Right Turn on Red, or No Left Turn on Red, regardless of green ball or arrow. People forget or don’t know that you are allowed to make a left turn onto a one-way (ie downtown or onto a hwy on-ramp) on a red.
Also most people don’t know u-turns (reverse turns) are illegal at any signalized intersection with the exception of local bylaw (the u-turn allowing signs along King George Hwy for examplr). Vancouver’s, Richmond’s and Burnaby’s No U-Turn signs erected at signalized intersections actually creates further confusion because it is actually a redundant sign that causes people to remain uneducated and to think that they can instead perform the movement at other intersections where the sign is not posted...

Yes but it has dedicated green arrow for right turns, along with a no turning right on red sign.
The way people drive down hwy 17 after getting off the ferries, it's a no-brainer.

Those lanes should be marked better, it would probably prevent a lot of that from happening

I try to limit my food budget to $25-30 a day.
It's definitely doable, but way harder to go below that threshold (sub $20).
25-30 a day? so for just you alone you spend $750-900 a month on food? That seems really high... two of us spend less than that easily. Last two months we've been spending $500/mo on groceries and $200/mo on eating out. Our budget was $800 on groceries but we never hit that.
If you want to eat healthy and not just Kraft Dinner it's impossible to eat in Canada for $10 a day. Inflation at the grocery store is incredible right now.
that's an insane take, two of us spend $500 or so on groceries every month... we don't eat any processed foods or very little, maybe a little bit of snacks and that's it. we make meals that cost like $20 and get 6+ portions out of those meals for lunch and dinners.

It depends on needs vs wants... I mean mikemhg is an outlier, he probably eats a shit-tonne cuz he's a gym rat... my gf's food costs a fortune because it's all specialized gluten free and she has to have a balance of everything all the time or she's unhappy.
I can live on almost nothing cost wise, I calculated my own food costs and I could probably get by on $200 a month if I didn't buy a bunch of extras or eat anything at a take out place.
no doubt! that's what i figured for mike, and i think murd0c is a gym guy too so maybe its just buying tons of protein. i just take issue with saying it's impossible to eat healthy for $10 a day in canada... maybe for him, but it's very easy to do for others and without making sacrifices on the quality of food either.
some of our staples are like asian stir fries with rice/noodles, thai/japanese/indian curries, pastas, korean dishes like bibimbap, soondoobu, japchae... i don't think any of these are unhealthy, and they're pretty much all easily scalable.

Damn, especially since you're a bigger dood, if you don't eat enough you'll quickly shrink. I realized with the recent food inflation having a decent physique and getting enough protein from food is a privilege now, even a minor financial flex.
All the tasty cheaper foods are high in carbs/fat and aren't good for the gym bros. I can probably live easily on $10 - 20 a day but I'd be eating too little protein.

I actually don't eat as much as you'd think, not sure how I can maintain my size, makes some of my other gym buddies the trainers mystified.
I fast a lot, so I only eat maybe twice a day. Oatmeal and fruit for breakfast (if I even eat breakfast), and maybe dinner only, or a lunch in between.
I usually buy my lunch, a stir fry or maybe donair plate $12-15. Cooking dinner, always with meat usually comes out to at least $10 with veggies. I usually order Freshprep a few times a month as well, so that comes out to about $12.5 a meal.
I'm sure one can go below that making lentils, chilis, and meal prepping a bunch, I simply don't have the patience to do all that.

I've only seen two last year, inside. They are everywhere else. Garden shed, storage chests, etc. They fly, so they get in when you have the door open for a split second. They can get into really tight spaces. Between plastic panels I had stored in the backyard. Although they look rather large, their bodies are relatively flat. Vile creatures, they are.
Never had issues with them until last year. Now they're part of our environment. Some asshole brought them over from somewhere, I bet. They kind of remind me of replicators from Stargate SG-1.

If you can get away with data only and your phone supports esim, use airalo.
https://www.airalo.com/
Unfortunately, its data only, but atleast you can use Whatsapp if needed.

Theres a 90 day T-Mobile free trial you can get with unlimited data.
Got home from a nice day in Bellingham. Everything was peachy, until............. in the mail was a summons from the Ministry of Attorney General - Sheriff Services.
Letter looked intimidating. I thought to myself, "Fuck, my past finally caught up to me....." Any letter that is in yellow can't be a good thing.
Anyway, it was a Jury Summons. Man, I've got out of jury duty a few times. What excuse am I going to use this time? Then, at the bottom of the form is a checkbox that states, "I am over 65 years and do not want to serve on jury duty. Thank god............
I could see myself telling the jury selection committee that I am a racist pig (okay, mostly true), and that I hate all LGBBQTFSA and multi-spirited humans. I hate all politicians and I am a freedom convoy activist........ They included a form and a SASE. Butt, I submitted the reply via website. Easy Peasy. Pays to be a senior. I paid my dues, mang.

Lol, usually juries are overrepresented by seniors because they have all the time in the world and nothing better to do.
One of my retired aunts was actually happy to go do jury duty for that reason haha
I've been called up twice over the years. The first I was still in post sec which was an easy off, the second my employer wrote a letter outlining the impacts to the business, and that got me off the hook as well.

^ what is jury duty pay nowadays? So if you're a retired senior doing tai chi at Richmond center, yah, why not make some $$, hear some cray cray shi*tz case ... :lol
Just hope that the case is not some top secret publication ban kind where you have to be sequestered ... now that would not be fun.

Who in this day and age can actually afford getting jury duty that isn't already retired? Some jobs will pay your wage when you're gone but if your employer doesn't you'd be fucked.

You got that right. People can't put together a proper sentence these days if their life depended on it. Spelling errors, grammatical errors, run together sentences, synonyms, homonyms, verb agreement, tense, etc.
And, my all time favourite......... the double negative. Two wongs don't make it white.
Yeah, senior with nothing better to do, but go on jury duty.

Rant time.
So the wife took a new position in the government which started in February.
It's several steps higher than her old position, and a pretty significant pay bump.
Except, it's been 4 paycheques now that she's still getting paid at her old rate. The system hasn't updated to her new wage.
She put in a call to whatever group deals with these sorts of issues after paycheck #1 in the new job, and no change to date.
What's fucking rediculous is the attitude that is "normal", my wife said there was another guy who had the same thing happen and it didn't resolve for 6 months.
If this sort of thing happened in a private business, people would just fucking stop working.
Like what do you do if you're someone who's actually in need of that money?
Fortunately we're not in that position, but this is already several thousands of dollars that are not in our hands yet that should be.

Is she with the feds? Welcome to Phoenix... I know people that were paid at the wrong rate for years.
At one point I was paid for 2 jobs at once and I couldn't even get them to stop for 6 months. There's definitely people who had to take out emergency payments for things like rent or mortgage and I know of 2 people who didn't get approved for mortgages because they couldn't get an accurate representation of their income. There's at least 1 documented suicide related to Phoenix issues as well.
Thanks Harper/Conservative Party!

My wife also works for the Feds and she's been on and off paid incorrectly at least a third of the time as she's moved roles and been in acting roles (temporary promos) during that time.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_pay_system
The history of the system is fascinating (and will drive you crazy) but I'll acknowledge that the Feds have a VERY complicated and complex pay and benefits system however the Harper gov't forced a solution/process onto something that made no sense. A monolithic all in one product that was released to the masses all at once is crazy.

—
World Wrestling Entertainment is merging with Endeavor Group, the parent company of competitor UFC, to form a new publicly traded company.
The deal values the newly combined company at over $21 billion: UFC is worth $12.1 billion and WWE is valued at $9.3 billion. Endeavor shareholders will own 51% of the newly combined company, while WWE shareholders are getting 49%.
“This is a rare opportunity to create a global live sports and entertainment pureplay built for where the industry is headed,” said Ariel Emanuel, CEO of Endeavor, in a statement. Emanuel, a Hollywood powerhouse agent, will be the CEO of the new company and retain his chief executive title at the agency.
Vince McMahon will retain his current WWE title of executive chairman at the new company, which doesn’t yet have name. He said in a statement that the new company “will be well positioned to maximize the value of our combined media rights.” He also said the new company could expand by pursuing other mergers and acquisitions “to further bolster our strong stable of brands.”
WWE shares fell nearly 10% in early trading and Endeavor slumped about 2%. The companies expect to save $50 million to $100 million in costs once the deal is complete, which is expected to close in the second half of this year. It will trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol “TKO".
shouldn't it be traded as RKO

Massive main and Hastings clean up today..... Road closed in both directions.
Probably 50-100 people including cops, fire, boo-boo bus, and general cleaners taking care of business.
I wonder how long before the tents reappear on Alexander Street in the same magnitude. A week? A month?
I was there in a hi-viz vest for something unrelated, got yelled at and was the victim of several "I hate cops" jokes lol
Cops are just doing their job, ffs. Those whiners are the ones who'll wish cops were there when they get attacked, robbed, raped, have their property damaged, etc.
Just heard about the eviction of residents at some condemned SRO building. Cops arrested people who were not even residents (squatters). People see that and go immediately into attacking the police. I am a supporter of law enforcement. Yes, there are some bad apples, but they get a lot of undeserved negative criticism. Those who criticize would be shitting their pants if they were in their (cops) shoes.
Back to the tent situation. If those fokkers behaved themselves and kept everything relatively clean, it wouldn't come down to this. If the homeless camped out in front of the protesters' front yard, they'd be singing a different song. The tents are not only an eyesore, it is now a health and safety issue. Stabbings, fights, fires, etc.

Did they change how customs works at YVR? The last time I came back into Canada through YVR in December I got off my Delta flight, went through the "Canada Connections" customs, got on my WestJet flight and left. This time I came in on my United flight, headed for an AC flight and was told I could only go through connections for WJ-WJ or AC-AC. Anything else I had to go out the normal way, get my bag, and check in/go through security again.
Is that a new thing or is a Delta > WJ flight somehow different from United > AC? Both were booked as complete trips.

Depends on what time you arrive. If it was super early or late at night, then you may not be able to stay airside and would have to go out to landside and come back in.
-edit- sorry, just reread your post. United to Westjet connections are not eligible for direct connections. Only certain airlines cooperate with each other, and generally they are in the same alliance (i.e. Luftthansa to Air Canada, or Delta to Westjet. Funny enough, United to Air Canada doesn't allow for direct transfers which is odd to me).

Whoops I edited it to clarify, I came in on United and was going out on AC. It was all booked as a "partner" airline, I had my boarding passes for both flights in the United app and when I went to drop off my bag again they reused the United bag tag (good thing I left it on).
On the original flight out of Canada my stuff was checked through no problem. I just landed at YVR and went through US security, I never had to touch my bag, though I'm assuming customs going out is different from coming in.
It was in the middle of the day on Friday too, it was pretty busy and I went as quick as I could but I still only made it to the gate 5mins before boarding.

When you departed Canada, you precleared US CBP in Vancouver, so once you land in the US, you're treated essentially like a domestic arrival.
But coming back to Canada, you have to clear CBSA in Vancouver, so connections are treated differently. That's the main difference.
The good news is YVR has a special corridor for International to Domestic connections, but not everyone is eligible to use it, and it's not available overnight.
Only these international to domestic airline connections are eligible to connect directly (taken from Flyertalk):
- Air Canada(AC) connecting to Air Canada(AC)
- Lufthansa(LH) connecting to Air Canada(AC)
- Edelweiss(WK) connecting to Air Canada(AC)
- Westjet(WS) connecting to Westjet(WS)
- Air France(AF) connecting to Westjet(WS)
- Delta(DL) connecting to Westjet(WS)
- Japan Airlines(JL) connecting to Westjet(WS)
- KLM(KL) connecting to Westjet(WS)
AND are also arriving directly from a flight departing from the following destinations:
- All USA Flights
- All Mexico Flights (except Mexico City)
- All Europe Flights
- All Japan Flights
- All Korea Flights
- All Australia Flights
- All New Zealand Flights

It'd be nice if they put that on a sign somewhere before you hike over there and wait in line. Maybe I'm just an idiot who got too little sleep but when I'm making a Canadian connection and I see a big sign that just says "Canada Connections" that's where I'm going to go. I have to make the same trip a few more times so at least now I know it'll be the same in future.
