I did some googling and it seems like $100 per person would be appropriate.
But, since it's my best friends sister I'll give a little more. I like the idea of 88.
So I'll probably do $188.

Thanks.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver Police are investigating a fatal collision at Cambie Street and West 33rd Avenue after a car hit a light pole late last night.

Around 12:30 a.m., a car was traveling south on Cambie Street from West 33rd Avenue when it veered off the road and hit a light pole.

Tragically, a 26-year-old woman that had been sitting in the front passenger seat was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the deceased is not being released as the family has not yet been notified.

The 26-year-old driver of the car was taken to hospital with minor injuries and is cooperating with police. Police believe that speed was a factor in the crash.

You know by today's standards none of us was supposed to ever make it.

HIGH SCHOOL -- 1958 vs. 2012

Scenario 1:

Jack goes duck hunting before school and then pulls into the school parking lot with his shotgun in his truck's gun rack.

1958 - Vice Principal comes over, looks at Jack's shotgun, goes to his car and gets his shotgun to show Jack.

2012 - School goes into lock down, FBI called, Jack hauled off to jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counselors called in for traumatized students and teachers.

Scenario 2:

Johnny and Mark get into a fist fight after school.

1958 - Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up buddies.

2012 - Police called and SWAT team arrives -- they arrest both Johnny and Mark. They are both charged with assault and both expelled even though Johnny started it.

Scenario 3:

Jeffrey will not be still in class, he disrupts other students.

1958 - Jeffrey sent to the Principal's office and given a good paddling by the Principal. He then returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt class again.

2012 - Jeffrey is given huge doses of Ritalin. He becomes a zombie. He is then tested for ADD. The family gets extra money (SSI) from the government because Jeffrey has a disability.

Scenario 4:

Billy breaks a window in his neighbor's car and his Dad gives him a whipping with his belt.

1958 - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college and becomes a successful businessman.

2012- Billy's dad is arrested for child abuse; Billy is removed to foster care and joins a gang. The state psychologist is told by Billy's sister that she remembers being abused herself and their dad goes to prison. Billy's mom has an affair with the psychologist.

Scenario 5:

Mark gets a headache and takes some aspirin to school.

1958 - Mark shares his aspirin with the Principal out on the smoking dock .

2012- The police are called and Mark is expelled from school for drug violations. His car is then searched for drugs and weapons.

Scenario 6:

Pedro fails high school English.

1958 - Pedro goes to summer school, passes English and goes to college.

2012 - Pedro's cause is taken up by state. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files class action lawsuit against the state school system and Pedro's English teacher. English is then banned from core curriculum. Pedro is given his diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he cannot speak English.

Scenario 7:

Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from the Fourth of July, puts them in a model airplane paint bottle and blows up a red ant bed.

1958 - Ants die.

2012 - ATF, Homeland Security and the FBI are all called. Johnny is charged with domestic terrorism. The FBI investigates his parents - and all siblings are removed from their home and all computers are confiscated. Johnny's dad is placed on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly again.

Scenario 8:

Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee. He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary hugs him to comfort him.

1958 - In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing.

2012 - Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces 3 years in State Prison. Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy.

And they say it's only certain types of parents who are psychotic and controlling...

21-year-old Ohio honor student wins stalking order against helicopter parents who monitored her Internet use and phone calls - NY Daily News (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/21-year-old-stalker-parents-tracked-calls-web-article-1.1228274)
21-year-old Ohio honor student wins stalking order against helicopter parents who monitored her Internet use and phone calls
Aubrey Ireland’s parents wanted to keep their daughter close – so close that they installed tracking software on the 21-year-old’s phone and computer so that they could monitor every site she visited and every person she talked to.

It was “like I was a dog with a collar on,” said Ireland, a music theater student at the University of Cincinnati.

After three years, the college senior had enough. A judge granted her a stalking order against her parents, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. David and Julie Ireland have to stay 500 feet away from their daughter at all times and can’t get back in touch with her for a year.

At first, her parents were supportive. Even though Aubrey was offered full scholarships to other acting schools, they agreed to pay for tuition at their daughter’s school of choice.

Aubrey has been on the dean’s list throughout her time as a student at Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. She often won leading roles in the school’s musicals.

But despite her success, the Irelands’ behavior became more erratic. The helicopter parents would often show up at their daughter’s college unannounced, even though it was a 600 mile drive from their hometown in Leawood, Kan. David and Julie Ireland told the musical theater department head that their daughter had mental issues and needed to be treated. They accused her of being promiscuous and taking illegal drugs.

“It’s just been really embarrassing and upsetting to have my parents come to my university when I’m a grown adult and just basically slander my name and follow me around,” Aubrey said during a court hearing.

Although Aubrey said their accusations were false, the parents had another card up their sleeves. They admitted that they were electronically tracking their daughter’s Internet use and monitoring her phone calls.

Last year, the student told police that her mother had assaulted her after showing up at her apartment in Cincinnati, according to the Daily Mail. Her mother countered that accusation with one of her own – she said that her daughter was the one who had assaulted her.

Aubrey eventually cut off all contact with her parents. But that didn’t keep them away. The school hired security guards to keep the Irelands out of their daughter’s shows. When they stopped paying her tuition, the school offered to pay for her senior year of college.

When her parents told the University of Cincinnati that they were going to take her away for mental evaluations, Aubrey decided to take action.

On Sept. 24, she filed a civil stalking order against her parents. At a Dec. 10 court hearing, Julie demanded that her daughter pay back the $66,000 her parents had spent on her three years of college. When mediators suggested that the parents, not the daughter, were the problem, the Irelands said that Aubrey was “a good actor and lying.”

“She's an only child who was catered to all her life by loving parents,”' Julie said in court. “We’re not bothering her. We're not a problem.”

Judge Jody Luebbers ruled that, as an adult, Aubrey is allowed to live her life according to her own wishes. The stalking order remains in effect until at least next Sept. 23.

start tanning now and go 3 times a week and you will be fine. I never used lotion so it took a bit longer but saved me from being burnt on vacation. go bare balls and start little time and move it up slowly.

I got a spray tan last year, and that doesn't really help at all.

Your abit late to start getting a base tan from UV beds, but like murd0c said. Go now and start 3x/week. Also talk to the people working there and see what they think.

IMO dry swiffers work great on our hardwood floors for dust and misc particles. then the wet swiffer. if you don't try to pick up dust bunnies etc with a dry first and go straight to a wet, you'll get dirt rolls and they might not get picked up well.

FYI you can get cheap dry wipes at daiso for $2 a pack WAAAAAAY cheaper then swiffer's dry pack

if you track must in to the house you might be using some elbow grease to wet swiffer the dirt out.

Once you have the money you have the money but no the student loans are only supposed to be used in Canada. Just think use them over seas and the person doesn't come back and there would be no way to collect thoese loans if they are not paid.

^ That's not completely correct. My brother is a student in the UK, went there to do a 2 year masters program and got approved for student loans. Applied through student aid bc, its a mix of the bc one and the federal one. The online application only allows you to pick canadian universities, not sure if american as well. You have to request a paper version of the application and then there's a place online that shows which international universities are approved by them.
So, you submit the paper application, there's one section on it that has to be filled out by the university you are at so that most likely will be done by the financial office once you go there. He did all that and mailed it from there. The only downside was that he didn't receive the loans till december due to the paper route instead of the online route. Hope that clears it up but there's plenty of info on the website.

I never understood why Superman movies always have to show him as an early to mid 30's character.

It would be more relevant to have an older, weaker, more jaded Superman existing in 2013 with his actual "birth" in 1938. That would look better than the current lollipop version(s).

Hopefully the new one will be decent.

Because he's Kryptonian and he doesn't age like we do!

In all seriousness tho, if they did that then Lois Lane died decades ago and they're creating entirely new Canon. Add to that the fact that while pople "know about Superman", they need some kind of hook into the popular version. Quick question, I've been buying engine oil amsoil & Mobil 1 synthetic oil locally.

I assume it's cheaper in the states. If so will you get charged across the border or anything?

I realized I'm only saving like 20bucks an oil change since I get charged about ~$100 from shops and I need about 7 quartz of oil per oil change and it's around ~70-80 plus the filter. Also, any way to get deals if you buy in bulk? lol

Thanks in advance.

5 quarts of mobil 1 synthetic is about 25$usd. Here its more than double. The savings is HUGE. When I go I always buy enough for 3 changes. Saves time and money. Never been charged on taxes for the oil. If you are pulled in, I assume you just get charged the reuglar tax they charge. Well worth it, plus fill up on gas and grab a 6 pack while you're there.

Where do you buy the oil? I'm not familiar with any automotive places around the border and how far down do you go? Bellingham area or just down to point roberts?

Walmart usually has the cheapest prices. You can try oreilly auto or something, but I'm not a fan. However I did find the 1 liter mobil 1 containers at fred meyer on sale for 3$ each, this was a few weeks ago though. And I always do bellingham, I have no experience with PR. I'd imagine its more expensive.

Very interesting read:

"The market is in a deep slump, but we get a big media blitz for Chinese New Year telling everyone the market is suddenly "alive in recent weeks with Asian buyers." Asian buyers who are looking for the same sort things in real estate that local buyers are looking for.

At the heart of the media blitz is MAC Marketing Systems. They conveniently back up their media campaign with two classic children of wealthy Asian parents, parents who are coming to town to buy them a condo for CNY.

See? The market is alive and well... the overseas Asians are buying again, are you going to be left out?

Hmmm.

Not so fast though. These 'overseas wealthy Asians' might not be as 'overseas' as we have been lead to believe."

Country Singer, Mindy McCready is dead (suicide)

I don't listen to country but$the lady is a fan of her and i figured there might be some fans on here sooo....

Country singer Mindy McCready dead of apparent suicide

http://www.usmagazine.com/uploads/assets/articles/60304-mindy-mccready-country-music-singer-dead-of-apparent-suicide/1361153207_mindy-mccready-reported-suicide_1.jpg

US country singer Mindy McCready has died in a suspected suicide, police have said.

The 37-year-old died from an "apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound", Arkansas sheriff Marty Moss said.

Her death comes weeks after that of her boyfriend and father of one of her two sons, record producer David Wilson, whose death is being investigated.

The singer had attempted to take her own life twice before and was known to have problems with substance abuse.

The singer recorded five studio albums, and scored 12 hits on the US country music charts, including Ten Thousand Angels and Guys Do It All The Time.

Her sole UK chart appearance came in 1998, when Oh Romeo reached number 41.

Her fifth album, I'm Still Here, was released in 2010.
Police said they had been called to the singer's house after reports of gunshots on Sunday afternoon.

They found the body of Malinda Gayle McCready on the front porch. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

TMZ reported she had shot her dog before turning the gun on herself.

After the death of her partner in January, McCready had told NBC's Dateline programme that she had "never gone through anything this painful.

"He didn't just touch my heart, he touched my soul."

She denied any involvement in Wilson's death.

Pain
Born in 1975 in Fort Myers, Florida, McCready began performing at an early age. Like many of her contemporaries, her first musical experiences came in her local church.

She left school at 16, intent on pursuing a career in music, and moved to Nashville two years later.

There, she met producers Norro Wilson and David Malloy, who helped her produce a demo tape. She was signed exactly 51 weeks after moving to Nashville.

Her first single, Ten Thousand Angels, reached number six on Billboard's Hot Country songs chart in 1996. A debut album of the same title sold 1.2 million copies.

Hits kept coming, but McCready began to be known for her personal life as much as her music. She became engaged to Lois and Clark actor Dean Cain in 1997, but they broke up before the wedding.

She also made headlines for claiming to have had a 10-year affair with former baseball star Roger Clemens that began when she was a teenager.

In 2004, she pleaded guilty to various drug charges and was fined, given community service and put on probation.

A violent relationship with songwriter Billy McKnight led to her being hospitalised in 2005, while he was charged with attempted murder.

McCready attempted suicide at least twice before the birth of her eldest son in 2006, and once again tried to take her own life in 2008.

The young boy was later placed in the care of McCready's mother - and the singer had engaged in a public battle for custody over the last few years. At one point she took him from her mother and fled to Arkansas, saying she had concerns over his safety.

A judge ordered authorities to pick up the boy, who was five at the time, and days later authorities found McCready hiding with him in a cupboard at her home.

Both of her children were removed from her care earlier this month while she was ordered to undergo rehabilitation.

She was discharged last week for outpatient treatment, but her sons remained in foster care.

The Cleburne County Sheriff's Office said McCready's body would be taken to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy, adding that "the matter will be fully investigated."

may have killed her partner and has kids
sounds like she had a fucked up life, what a shame, rip (kind of hard to imagine though since she had kids)

Speaking of dumpster diving, I was going to eat at Angel Cafe on Fraser St. with a friend. As we drove down the back alley I saw this asian woman with a ladder picking through the dumpster of a grocery store and was picking out what she probably thought was "still good" vegetables. I hope she doesnt work at any of those restaurants near by... I dont get whats with all the old asian people who go INSANE for collecting pop cans and other garbage...

It's through habit, me thinks. To this day, I have a tough time not picking up bottles I find on the street. I grew up in the DTES and nothing there went to waste. I think with these old ladies, it's downright wasteful to see items being thrown out that, in their eyes, is "still good". They probably grew up in a harsh environment most of their lives. Some people will see a quarter on the street and not pick it up because it is "beyond" them to do so.

You won't see these older asians standing on the corner begging for money, that's for sure. To them, that is just not right.

To each their own.......... I have more respect for that lady dumpster diving than some able bodied lazyass beggin for money on a street corner.

I respect both of them equally because both of them is doing what they enjoy and they are not out breaking the law. Pension money given to seniors is for them to spend it on what they want.

WTF? I'm watching amc on cable right now and there's some ticker tape at the bottom of the screen warning Rogers users that amc will be dropped from the lineup. If you want to enjoy watching award winning shows like Walking Dead, you need to log into some website or phone some toll free number to vote.

Who the fuck do they think they are? If they drop Walking Dead, I'm dropping them and getting Telus, sattelite tv, whatever. I hate cable companies.........

Perhaps amc is asking too much? Don't know how this shit works, but I'm hooked on Walking Dead, damn it. BTW, I so want to see the Governor get his ass kicked. Black chick is kinda hot!

I wonder where Horner is on the Chicken dinosaur experiment. They already grew an alligator snout on a chicken fetus and let the chicken grow teeth, but apparently they can't hatch it for ethical reasons.

BBC News - 'Batman' brings in suspect to Bradford police (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-21654930)

Batman' brings in suspect to Bradford police

West Yorkshire Police have released stills of the man dressed as Batman
A man dressed as the caped crusader Batman has handed over a wanted man at a Bradford police station before disappearing into the night.

Police said the costumed crime-fighter marched the 27-year-old man into Trafalgar House Police Station, in the early hours of 25 February.

The man was charged with handling stolen goods and fraud offences.

Police said: "The person who brought the man in was dressed in a full Batman outfit. His identity remains unknown."

Despite speculation on social media the arrested man could know the mysterious crime-fighter, West Yorkshire Police said: "We do not know the identity of the man dressed as Batman and do not know if he is friends with the man who was handed in."

Local accent
The suspect will appear before Bradford magistrates on Friday, police said.

A fancy dress store owner believes she sold the costume to the masked man.

A woman who believes she sold the costume said it was like the one seen in Only Fools and Horses
Kathryn Sutcliffe, of Kirkgate Market's The Joke Shop, said she sold a Batman outfit to a man in his 20s a couple of days before the incident.

She said: "Usually they want the Dark Knight costume but he wanted this one. He wanted the one with the muscly chest as well. It's like the one Del Boy wears in Only Fools and Horses."

Mrs Sutcliffe said the man had a local accent and was tall with curly black hair.

She may be one of the few people who knows the Bradford Batman's name, as he paid with a credit card and she has the receipt, but she said she would keep his identity a secret.

The neighbourhood police team for the Buttershaw area of Bradford, wrote about the incident on its Facebook page.

'Promptly vanished'
They said: "Last week we had a very strange occurrence at the police station when a male wanted for an offence on our area was 'escorted' into our helpdesk at Trafalgar House by Batman.

"Batman came into the helpdesk, stated to the staff 'I've caught this one for you' and then promptly vanished into the night to fight crime and the fear of crime in Bradford.

The officers added: "This post is meant as a bit of a light-hearted news."

One comment posted in the name of the neighbourhood police team even said: "We know the male set this up himself."

An anecdote from my day yesterday...

I was on my way to the Safeway in the New West Station development when I saw a fire truck roll down 8th St with sirens on. I go inside to buy something and see security in the middle of an aisle, a woman on the floor, motionless. Firefighters and the assistant manager of the store had just arrived at the scene. I asked what happened and turns out she fainted from low blood sugar.

Once I reached home, I saw flashing lights at my complex, it was a fire truck. My brother is autistic and lives with us so I feared the worst, was there an accident? No, it turns out it was in another unit, a TV fell from a dresser and triggered an electrical fire. It was contained to one room. I talked to the family (they're all fine) it was a single dad, young son and daughter, two dogs that looked absolutely terrified. They'll be put up in a hotel for a few days.

Really makes you think how fragile life is, and how things can things can change for the worse in an instant.

Don't know if this is the right thread to talk about this; if it isn't, I'm sorry.

Canadian tire cheap stuff = plastic wheels, lots of plastic parts, cheap quality over all. For the same price you'll get all metal construction @ princess auto

i used to go there often, expect poor service (even by chinese restaurant standards). i expected bad service anyway which is why we still went...but i don't go anymore

a couple of times it's been shitty even for chinese restaurant standards...got tired of the "i don't give a fuck at all" attitude from some of the regular servers so we dropped it from our list of neighbourhood chinese restaurants

When's usually the best time to apply for jobs via e-mail?
Tuesday.

Saturday/Sunday are the weekend and the email will be lost in the over the weekend emails
Monday the boss will be dealing with Monday shit.
Friday no one wants to deal with anything
Thursday the boss may reply, but it wont go any further until the following week making it slip from memory.

Tuesday shouldn't be too busy, and you have a few days to await a reply, and still get a meeting/interview in that week. The key is to get an interview as soon as possible after making contact. If a week goes by, the boss may have forgotten about you, or talked to someone better than you.

If I go to cash a cheque from a client and it comes back NSF, do I get charged NSF or the issuer or both?

Bank (TD) just got back to me.

Apparently, if you have enough funds to still have a balance after the amount of the cheque is removed OR if you go negative but replace funds to put you in the black, shortly after the cheque bounces, they don't charge the NSF.

The issuer gets charged regardless.

And in other Popely news...

As cardinals gather to elect Pope, Catholic officials break into a sweat over news that priests share €23m building with huge gay sauna

A day ahead of the papal conclave, faces at the scandal-struck Vatican were even redder than usual after it emerged that the Holy See had purchased a €23 million (£21 million) share of a Rome apartment block that houses Europe’s biggest gay sauna.

The senior Vatican figure sweating the most due to the unlikely proximity of the gay Europa Multiclub is probably Cardinal Ivan Dias, the head of the Congregation for Evangelisation of Peoples, who is due to participate in tomorrow’s election at the Sistine Chapel.

This 76-year-old “prince of the church” enjoys a 12-room apartment on the first-floor of the imposing palazzo, at 2 Via Carducci, just yards from the ground floor entrance to the steamy flesh pot. There are 18 other Vatican apartments in the block, many of which house priests.

The Holy See is still reeling from allegations that the previous pontiff, Benedict XVI, had quit in reaction to the presence of a gay cabal in the curia.

And with disgraced Scottish cardinal Keith O’Brien lending new weight to charges of hypocrisy against the Church’s stance on homosexuality, La Repubblica newspaper noted that the presence of “Italy’s best known gay sauna in the premises is an embarrassment”.

Cardinal Dias, who is seen as a social conservative even by the current standards of the church hierarchy, is no doubt horrified to learn of the activities taking place a floor below.

It is not known, however, if the former archbishop of Bombay has popped downstairs to give spitiual guidances to the clients of the Europa Multiclub, given his belief that gays and lesbians can be cured of their “unnatural tendencies” through the “sacrement of penance”.

The sauna’s website promotes one of its special “bear nights”, with a video in which a rotund, hairy man strips down before changing into a priest’s outfit. It says Bruno, “a hairy, overweight pastor of souls, is free to the music of his clergyman, remaining in a thong, because he wants to expose body and soul”.

There was further embarrassment for the Holy See when the press observed that thanks to generous tax breaks it received from the last Berlusconi government, the church will have avoided hefty payments to the Italian state. The properties are recognised as part of the Holy City.

Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Pope Emeritus Benedict’s widely disliked right-hand man, who held the Vatican’s purse strings during the last pontificate, was said to have been the brains behind the purchase of 2 Via Carduccio in 2008.

Readers on Italian gay websites were quick to make jokes at the cardinals’ expense. One on the Gay.it site quipped: “’Oops, I took the wrong door, I thought it was the chapel.'…If you can’t go to the gay sauna for fear of being seen what do you do if you have millions of Euros stolen from Italians? You buy the apartment block with the sauna inside.”
