I’m never too sweaty here even when it’s 30+ unless I’ve got a backpack or sonthing on, but going through Croatia and Italy and walking all day in 30+ degree weather ended up having to grab somthing similar to the gold bond as the nether regions just could not dry out lol

Wear really nice underwear too, all Lulu with Lulu shorts have great breathability and by the end of the day would just feel gross and those places have relatively low humidity

So I've been on the lookout for a change and CP-KC responded to me for an entry level Conductor job out of PoCo yard.

Quick jaunt on Reddit seems to sway towards "Do not do" rather than "Go for it" citing issues with "seniority dick measuring", "trying to nap in a musty bunkhouse", "get ready to get divorced" (I'm single lmfao) and "constantly on call/sleep deprived" :badpokerface:

I'd rather hear from people who actually stuck it through and/or got out. I don't mind working outdoors/working in inclement weather, but I've never been at an "24/7 on-call" style job.

Kinda stuck between two options - a stable scheduled job with lower income ceiling with some room for advancement VS on-call job like Conductor but higher ceiling provided you gut it out for a few years and gain seniority.

How was the experience? I remember Badhobz saying he had experience with this.

I was a conductor for 2 years before going into management at CN.

Best job ive ever had. I totally regret going into management and i should have stayed on working as a conductor. I would have been locomotive engineer trained in year 3 and probably holding a good road conductor job by now. They make over 130k and its quite fun riding the high rails.

Caveat:

the first few years are tough on you both physically and mentally. You'll be on the spareboard so you'll get called with a 2h notice at any time to work. You kind of have an idea of when you'll be going to work as you can see your name on the roster and who's ahead of you, but you are never 100% certain. Sometimes the board might spin fast and you'll be out within a few hours, sometimes its slow and you'll be waiting to go to work

The biggest issue is fatigue. You'll be battling going to work tired, sleep deprived, or just drowsy. It really is a young man's game. I did that conductor stuff while in my 20's and it was okay. I dont think i would do it if i was 30+ and especially not now when im almost 40.

The job itself is fun as hell. Do you like moving trains around? do you like working in a fast pace environment? If so then its pretty good. Its also at any time, in any weather, so be prepared to get wet. Invest in your gear.

It'll all be very overwhelming at first, there is a shit ton to learn and even the body mechanics are weird (getting on and off of moving equipment is quite challenging initally) and you gotta be self-conscious. One slip up and you can easily lose a leg.

The pay is shit at first, probably be only making 50-60k the first year. But it gets better as soon as you are able to hold a regular job. When i was at CN i only worked the spareboard for the first year and by the 2nd year i was holding foreman at the Ewen job in Richmond. The days off were shit (tuesday, wednesday) and the hours were also shit, 10pm till 6am, but i still enjoyed having stability.

Ultimately my wife wanted me out of the meat grinder because she was afraid ill lose a leg or something so i applied for management.

p.s. it ultimately opened doors. Going into management gave me my port manager job, which lead to this port authority gig. Coming from railroading is always seen as a positive for most employers as they know your disciplined. But that being said the management is quite brutal as its run like a miiltary organization. You listen to your foreman, you listen to your trainmaster, and your engineer. Hierarchy is a big deal, if you cant deal with crusty old cunts who think they are top shit, this isnt the job for you.

I recently had a parotidectomy three weeks ago, everything is good and healing ok.

Where I used to have the tumor is now an empty cavity, but recently it's been swelling up with what I think is serous fluid. It's like a watery clear/yellowy liquid. It's not thick, cloudy or pus so I don't think it's an infection.

The fluid was dribbling out randomly for a few days, then it just stopped. After a day or two, I realized that while it stopped, it started to pool under my skin where the tumor was forming a bump.

I gave it a minor squeeze the other day and it just spurted out of my incision, so I drained it and it started swelling up with liquid again. I'm not sure if this is just the body's way of filling in that empty space where the tumor used to be?

The surgeon that operated on me isn't available until Friday for me to speak to.

Not too concerned since I don't think it's an urgent matter, but would be nice to get a second opinion on if it's normal or not. Parotidectomies are kinda rare I think, can't find any good resources online.

Anyone have any thoughts?

I don't know about other themes, but for custom military sets the gold standard is Brickveteran, followed closely by Brickmania. They only use official LEGO pieces so their kits are very expensive. There are other sellers that steal others' designs, use no-name bricks, etc. so they will be a lot cheaper and you may run into quality issues.

I still get it frequently comes to just under $13 or just over if you're swapping the drink for a gravy. Even at this price it's still expensive considering this shit was like $5 or $6 before. I self justify it by just seeing as I'm paying $13 for a full meal and comparing what the hell you'd get for a meal for $13 now. That and it's delicious lol

Was just at Burger King on Columbia. On my way to FabricLand. I made mobile order for the $2.00 Nuggets and medium onion rings. I park up front and see this lady in an older Mitsubishi SUV. She’s frantically trying to start the car. There’s about eight cars behind her. Nobody’s offering to help. I go over and try to help get it started. It wasn’t a dead battery. Healthy cranking, but no start. So, I get her to put it in neutral and start to push. That’s when I realized I’m not young anymore. I had to get others to help push. Short of dragging people out of their cars, I got the driver behind her to help. Only after I told him, nobody’s going home unless we get her car out of the way. Damn, the car was like a tank, weight wise. After we struggled to get the car across to a safe location I saw a second guy on the other end. This guy looked like a linebacker. Can’t imagine how we moved the car that far (30 feet), lol. Anyway, by this time, there was about twelve or so cars in the line up. Nobody getting out of their cars. At least no honking. What’s with people these days.

On a side note, nuggets were okay, but the onion rings………… so freaking bad. I want my money back!

If a car in front of me is stuck, with people visibly pushing the car to move it out of the way, the least any sensible person is to come out and take a look. The dead car is blocking their own damn way! If you are a 5' tall spy balloon, then OK -- I can see how you may not be the most physically suitable person to help. But 90% of the average male driver would have no problem helping with a little push.

You're missing out, man. The new pools are really, really nice. I haven't been to Minoru for a long time, but I think their pool is quite recently rebuilt from the ground up, so I'd expect them to be super nice.

I've recently started going to the Edmunds pool, and everything is super modern looking. I'm 90% certain that instead of using that disgusting chlorine, they are using something else to keep the pool clean, so you don't even smell like chlorine after swimming.

minoru centre for active living was a big job for the city and a very nice facility

they have several different pools for diff purposes, a huge hot tub (biggest in province?) and a cold tub too (read the sign so you don't mix it up :lol).

edmonds is quite nice as well, pricy entrance fee though i find compared to others like hillcrest or killarney

I'm growing increasingly tired of headlines that use "slams", "blasts", "dead at xx" etc.

My guess is -- the US border services probably started off by saying something along the lines of:

"We are not ruling out the possibility that this incident is terror-related"

as part of their initial response. And that gets picked up by the media right away.

Judging by pictures of the immediate aftermath, the situation certainly looks serious. There was a lot of smoke and quite a large area of fire, and debris from the explosion also spread out pretty far. And then when you add all that recent tension and hateful rhetoric stemming from the Israel - Gaza conflict, the authorities have legitimate reasons to be concerned and vigilant.

And let's not forget -- lots of Jewish sites have received threats of different kinds lately. Multiple shootings even happened -- off the top of my head, I think I remember reading about 3 separate overnight shootings at Jewish schools overnight. Muslim communities have reported lots of hate-motivated / hate-related incidents as well, so everyone in those communities were already on edge.

Personally, when I first saw the surveillance video showing the car sped and flew over the concrete block, that was the moment when I started feeling like it seemed less likely to be a terror-related incident.

The fuck why does the media like to put out the word "terrorism" right off the jump with no actual information over something like this?

You'd almost think they want us in a perpetual state of fear, notably to support and keep us prepped for all this bullshit happening in the Middle East.

I thought we got past that after 9/11, apparently not.

It's because the modern culture just thrives on the idea of being victimized. How could this happen in my country?! No one's safe anymore! Everybody believes there is some crazy threat against them everyday everywhere because of the media. I bet in the last 10 years with the doomscrolling culture that fucking 95% of us have some level of diagnosable anxiety disorders when before that period it would have been 10%.
