i fucking hate how we live in a society where peoples sexuality gets discriminated upon that we need to have events like this.

people need to get over the fact that people are gay. There are too many young homophobes (at least when I worked the clubs) downtown.

I was in Home Outfitters about an hour and a half ago. It is gridlock traffic. They closed the on ramp to freeway and are diverting all eastbound traffic at Schoolhouse.

Vancouver woman gave birth in secret, killed 2 newborns: Crown | CTV Vancouver News (http://bc.ctvnews.ca/vancouver-woman-gave-birth-in-secret-killed-2-newborns-crown-1.1691098)

In April 2009, Leung delivered the baby into a toilet at the home where she continues to live with her parents and brother, Cunningham told the jury.
Afterwards, Leung put the baby inside a plastic bag, cleaned up any signs of her delivery and told her boyfriend that she had a miscarriage, Cunningham said.
"She put her baby boy, still, inside the plastic bag, outside between her house and the next door neighbour's, and carried on as if nothing had happened," she said.
"No one suspected a thing."
Cunningham did not specify precisely when the baby died.
Later on, Leung's father discovered the baby outside the home and had his son call the police. When Leung's parents told her about the police investigation, they did not think her reaction seemed unusual, Cunningham said.
"She reassured them she knew nothing about the baby or how it came to be in a plastic bag outside," the lawyer said.
In August the following year, police determined from DNA tests that the dead baby belonged to Leung and her boyfriend. By this time, it was likely that Leung was already pregnant with her second child, Cunningham said.
The jurors heard Leung and her boyfriend got married in November 2009 and started to make plans about moving in together after the baby was born. However, Leung kept the marriage and her pregnancy from her family.
In March 2010, Leung gave birth to her second baby boy -- once again into a toilet at her parents' home.

This just goes to show you that even though any woman (generalizing here, I'm aware that some people can't have children) can get pregnant and give birth to another human being, it takes a real woman to give birth and raise him/her as one of her own.

No other type of story gets my blood boiling than these ones. There are people on this planet that would give anything up just to have one child to call their own. Here, we have a monster of a woman that just threw away 2 babies as if she was taking out the garbage.

So. Much. Anger.

Look at the positive side, these kind of take over layoffs usually result in decent severance packages.

Collect your severance, ask for a good reference letter, and take a few weeks off and go job hunting again.

Any advice on selling a set of snow tires?

I traded the vehicle in a year and a half ago and they don't fit on my new truck. Forgot about them last winter as they are in my storage locker and have halfheartedly tried this winter. I got jerked around by a couple of guys off Craigslist who said they were going to take them and then backed out.

I realize as most people are starting to think about taking snowies off that chances of selling them are getting slimmer and slimmer.

Do I wait until next season or just try to get a few bucks for them? The rims must be worth something. The other thing is the vehicle they came off of is not common and I can only find one other that uses the same size wheel and tire.

fliptuner
02-23-2014, 11:50 AM
On one hand, you're going to take a hit cause it's almost time to switch over but you'll free up some storage.

On the other hand, if you go to sell them next fall/winter, they're going to be a year older, so if they're close to 5 years old, might be a harder sell. Plus you have to store them.

What model/size/condition are they?

Harold Ramis, 69 died from complications of a rare disease

http://media.comicbook.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Harold-Ramis.jpg
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/40/HaroldRamisOct2009.jpg/220px-HaroldRamisOct2009.jpg

Harold Ramis dead at 69, starred in Ghostbusters, SCTV
Actor, writer worked with Second City colleagues such as John Belushi, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd

Actor, writer and filmmaker Harold Ramis, the Ghostbusters star whose comedy credits include Groundhog Day and the National Lampoon films, has died at age 69.

Ramis died early Monday morning at his Chicago-area home, surrounded by family and friends, according to a statement from his Los Angeles representatives, United Talent Agency.

Ramis died of complications from autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis, a condition that affects blood vessels he had battled for the past four years.

Chicago-born Ramis started his comedy career in 1969 in his hometown's influential Second City improv comedy theatre, where he would encounter his friends and regular collaborators such as John Belushi, Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd.

"[I'm] deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my brilliant, gifted, funny friend," Aykroyd said in a statement on Monday.

"May he now get the answers he was always seeking."

When the troupe launched its landmark television series SCTV in the late 1970s, Ramis was its first head writer, as well as one of the cast members.

Nearly a decade later, the former Playboy magazine jokes editor broke through in Hollywood with the blockbuster comedy National Lampoon's Animal House, starring Belushi, and became known for some of the most popular comedy films of the 1980s.

Throughout his career, he would mix screenwriting, directing, producing and acting roles. His best-loved titles include his role in the Ghostbusters films — in which he portrayed the straight-laced Dr. Egon Spengler and co-wrote with Aykroyd — and directing the comedy classic Groundhog Day, starring Murray.

He often teamed with his former Second City colleagues for wild and silly films, including Stripes, Caddyshack, Meatballs and National Lampoon's Vacation.

"He was a very generous, smart guy. He was always the quietest person and the loudest person in the room. His volume didn't come from his voice. It came from his intelligence," Canadian filmmaker Ivan Reitman, who directed Ghostbusters and Meatballs, told CBC's As It Happens.

"You had to pay attention because he was always going to say something really clever that made whatever we were working on better.

"I loved the guy. I always felt he was the one I could speak to, that I could be the closest with, and there must have been hundreds of others who felt the same way. It's why I felt like he was the brother I never had. He was like the more funny version of me. I learned a lot from him."

In recent years, Ramis's work included directing episodes of The Office, the film Year One and cameo roles in movies by filmmakers he'd influenced (including Judd Apatow's Knocked Up). He was also touted as a caring mentor in the industry and a key inspiration to a younger generation of comedy filmmakers, including Adam Sandler, Jay Roach, Jake Kasdan and Peter and Bobby Farrelly.

Second City founder Bernie Sahlins once said that, from the start, he knew Ramis “would be an important factor in American comedy.

"He has all the skills and abilities to be funny and to write funny, but he also is a leader, a very nice guy. He was always looked up to, in Second City to being head writer at SCTV. He was never separate from anybody. He was always one of the boys, but he was the best boy," Sahlins told the Chicago Tribune in a 1999 interview. Sahlins, who had worked with Ramis since 1969, died in 2013.

Ramis is survived by his wife, Erica Mann Ramis, his children Julian, Daniel and Violet and two grandchildren.

Downtown Vancouver's Giant Rooftop Sundial (PHOTOS) (http://www.vancitybuzz.com/2014/02/international-village-vancouver-sundial/)

http://assets.vancitybuzz.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/1743681_713791268660795_662320068_n.jpg

There’s a good reason you might not have known about it as it’s completely out of sight and out of mind from Vancouverites, unless you’re Superman or live in one of the condo towers near International Village – where the giant sundial, measuring to approximately 40-metres in diameter, can be found on the city-block sized mall’s rooftop.

nternational Village was completed in 1998 and consists of unique architectural details that are overlooked and forgotten given the mall’s lifeless reputation and the troubled neighbourhood that borders it to the north. Aside from the rooftop sundial, the mall features a central galleria along its southwest to northeast axis (running parallel to the sundial as shown in the photos) to maintain the Canadian Pacific Railway’s right-of-way.

Prior to the construction of the Dunsmuir Tunnel, which is now used by the SkyTrain Expo Line, a ground level rail line traveled through the mall’s galleria, Gastown and the Downtown Eastside to link the CPR’s False Creek rail yards with its Coal Harbour rail yards.

For those who have disputed a ticket, but wished to plead guilty and request a deduction...how much did you deducted?

I disputed a ticket for over passenger back when I had my N in 2012 and have a court date for next Friday lol not sure whether I should attend or just request a reduction.

And it's my first dispute, so what should I expect if I decide to go and approximately how long is the process?

Thanks guys

Seth Rogen's Senate Testimony About Alzheimer's (VIDEO) (http://www.vancitybuzz.com/2014/02/seth-rogens-senate-testimony-alzheimers/)

Vancouverite Seth Rogen testified before the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health, and Human Services to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s Disease.

Yesterday’s testimony closely affects Rogen as Alzheimer’s is a disease his mother-in-law suffers from.

In typical Seth Rogen fashion, the comedian and actor delivered a hilarious, yet emotional testimony, with a moments filled with his signature laugh.

“I came here today for a few reasons. One, I’m a huge House of Cards fan. Just marathoned the whole thing. Had to be here. Two is to say people need more help,” said Rogen.

Watching his mother-in-law suffer from the disease led for Rogen to start a charity, Hilarity for Charity, to raise not only funds but awareness of the disease.

This could be an entire thread by itself.

Provide more details!

okay here goes (spoilered)

I haven't driven the celica in awhile and I brought it out that day and decided "hey ill pop into metrotown for some goodies from t&t"

As I was leaving metrotowns underground parking, I was headed towards the kingsway exit. (parked on the opposite side of the mall because I didn't want to deal with t&t traffic -_-)

I was driving straight and noticed a car heading quickly towards the upcoming intersection (to make a right turn onto the road I was on) he wasn't slowing down or even looking at the road! he was looking at his passenger -_-
I was already entering the intersection at this point and knew I would have been t-boned if neither of us stopped.
So I slammed the brakes
the other driver finally noticed me but still reacted late and he scraped my passenger front bumper.
^^^ all that happened in around 5sec

I looked at the driver with an 'are you kidding?' look but he just reversed his car! it almost looked like he wanted to drive away as he began to turn his steering wheel right! (may have been paranoia on my part :lol)

Then he pointed at my front end and waved dismissively like it was fine then waved his hand to give me the go ahead to continue on my way :rukidding:

All this happened right in front of a security guard btw, literally, he was just walking up to the intersection when it happened

I get out of my car and I'm not sure but I think the other driver yelled out of his window "why are you getting out?"

At the same time I was asking the guard if it was bad or if my car was hit, can't recall as I was getting angrier at this point.

The guard nodded and said something I couldn't hear.

I walk towards the front of my car with my camera and see the damage and began taking pictures/info gathering

The other driver walked towards me and asked "what are u doing?" as I was writing down his plates :crazy2: he claims he didn't know he hit me and apologizes and asked me if I wanted to settle this outside of icbc yadda yadda

I wasn't paying too much attention and just asked him for his information and he immediately and curtly asked for my info too as if I had offended him for asking for his. I wrote his info down and he takes a picture of mine.

He wanted to leave at this point but security wanted to take pictures of the scene so we waited. Then his passenger came out to speak with me (his wife I'm assuming) she kept asking me to deal with this outside of icbc and I simply told her "the best and safest thing to do would be to go through icbc"
she would reply with "yes it is but that would hurt our insurance. How about we deal with it outside of icbc?" she spoke with broken english mind you but that was what she tried to say

I would just repeat myself and she would too and finally she says "why icbc? it's just small damage" -_- so I told her "it's pretty bad actually"

And that set her off she just started babbling about how I was overreacting and started speaking in her own language and left me alone to argue with her husband.

After a few minutes she speaks with one of the security guards, loudly, and says "its lucky you guys are here because some people want to make this seem like a big deal"

Anyway I got the security guards name and the number of the security office, they told me that icbc could call them to confirm the situation and ask for their pictures.

The other driver and his wife, who wanted to leave so badly earlier, now wanted to stay behind and speak with the security but I didn't care to wait around and went on my way and called icbc, which led to another issue because according to ICBC I only have 7+ years of driving experience (but I've got the 10yr discount) I've been driving for 16+yrs! and they told me we could deal with that in the future.

Just wondering if anyone can help me out on this... I went to check the oil dipstick on my car while engine was cold and got a low oil reading (below the second dot). Then I checked it again after I ran my engine on idle for like 2 minutes and turned it off to check -> gave me DOUBLE the reading. The oil shot up to like 3 finger lengths above the maximum dot. Which one would be the accurate reading??

fliptuner

Cold, on level ground. It takes a few minutes for all the oil to settle, so it can be read accurately.

I posted a thread in the "Vancouver auto chat thread" about my newly established car rental company and letting the revscene community know, however is has been "moved" but seems like it was deleted by a moderator. My question is am I not allowed to start a thread promoting my business? or do I have to get to a certain post count before I can do so?

So I got my celica back from the shop today (after that metrotown accident) and I thought everything was fine in fact I'm not sure if they're even related but my gauge clusters lights are going out now when my headlights turn on :crazy2:
The gauge lights turn on when I turn the car on and when its simply my drl's that are on but the moment the headlights turn on everything on the gauge cluster goes out except for the headlight, door, and seatbelt indicators

That was kitty corner to what MG1 is talking about. F&S was replaced by Soho, and now it sits idle.

The last tenant to occupy it was some family restaurant that didn't last long. Before that in the early 2000s it was "Rain"- some bullshit-trying-to-be-trendy lounge restaurant. Before that was the "Stinking Rose".

I never went to any of the restaurants there. I heard good things about the Stinking Rose, but they moved before I was old enough to afford eating out by myself. It's a shame because I lived so close to it.

According to Business in Vancouver, the plan is for a new weekly art, music and food truck festival at Sunset Beach.

The group trying to make this happen has sent an application to the Vancouver Park Board. The intent is to use the parking lot at Sunset Beach to hold the Food Truck Festival every Friday evenings in the summer.

The event will centre around local artists and musicians and the food trucks will bring the necessary dining options.

If a Wendy's/BK opened there I would be there every day until it eventually closes. I always thought that area was a prime location for a fast-food chain- tons of residential units around. The closest McDonalds is Willingdon to the west, and Lougheed Town Center to the east. THAT'S TOO FAR AWAY!

I went to SOHO twice. Their cajun chicken burger was actually really good. And at $6 with fries and a drink, you couldn't really go wrong with it. Their last-ditch ad is still up. Something about $10 prime rib or something lol

I recently did a CarProof on a car. I knew it had at least one claim on it beforehand. The CarProof showed that it was clean. After talking to CarProof, they had to call up ICBC to retrieve the proper info.

Largest Sockeye Salmon run in recorded history expected this year on the Fraser River ? Vancouver Is Awesome (http://vancouverisawesome.com/2014/03/12/largest-sockeye-salmon-run-in-recorded-history-expected-this-year-on-the-fraser-river/)

Early indicators suggest that the salmon return on the Fraser River could be the biggest in recorded history.

More than 72 million sockeye could be in this year’s run, which is more than double the previous record four years ago. In 2010, 30 million fish flooded through the river, and the sockeye this year are the spawn of those salmon.

Ocean conditions have also been good for the past three years.

It is being called the fishing of a lifetime, and many in the industry say they are excited to get on the water this summer.

Forgot to mention, if you have little kids, take them to the Adams River during the big run. I believe it starts late September and goes into late October. It's an awesome experience to see a river turn red. Death and life together as one. Two sockeye together to spawn. They do their thing and then die soon after, becoming food for the avelin/fry when they hatch and find their way out to sea to start the cycle again. This act has fascinated people for thousands of years.

The place turns into a bit of a circus with people selling souvenirs and stuff, but it's something you have to witness at least once in your life. Plus, you can visit Lomac. I think he lives somewhere near there.

^it is this year. Nature or should I say sockeye salmon always do the 4 year cycle. No deciding to wait one year or come back one year early. It's like Vulcan Pon Farr. Other species of salmon have different cycles. Pinks or humpback salmon do a two year cycle, while others are one to three. Farmed salmon, yuk, are another story. They are the GMO of salmon. In fact they are not even indigenous to the West Coast.

Can your fish. There are lots of info on the Internet.

Just be careful and follow the instructions properly to avoid botulism.

Bernardin Home Canning: Because You Can (http://www.bernardin.ca/pages/recipe_page/51.php?pid=205)

Google "Home canning salmon." or something like that.

There's nothing like canning your own salmon - so fresh and the taste is second to none. You will be so popular with family and friends.

There's nothing like canned salmon with soy sauce on warm rice. Well, salmon eggs (Ikura) come close (Chum roe, to be exact). Chum or Keta is one of the most disqusting fish to can and are one of the cheapest species of salmon to buy, but their roe is prized in countries like Japan.

Also, canned salmon takes a while to mature. You can eat it right away, but it improves with age. Shelf life is 3 to 5 years. After that, the taste deteriorates.

Foreign duty-dodger wants visa renewed | Vancouver 24 hrs (http://vancouver.24hrs.ca/2014/03/12/wealthy-foreign-student-wants-visa-renewed-after-dodging-customs)

A “very wealthy” Chinese national who only claimed $710 in purchases but brought back $57,000 in luxury goods from Hermes in Las Vegas has been convicted and fined following a Crown appeal.

Xiaochen Zhao, a University of Victoria student here on visa, had her charges stayed earlier on condition of community service after a judge heard she’d likely be “inadmissible” in Canada with a conviction.

In a Wednesday decision, however, the B.C. Court of Appeal disagreed. It said immigration issues “must not divert the judge” from an appropriate sentence.

The court found the frequent traveller — a 24-year-old economics student and daughter of a wealthy Beijing businessman — had twice brought back undeclared goods in the space of a month in November 2011.

Kick her out IMO. We need to set a tougher example to people who do this type of stuff, especially people on Visa where it is a privilege to be in the country. ...If you can afford $50,000+ of luxury goods then you can afford the $9000 duty (from the article) that you must pay. Ridiculous that the Judge didn't want to "inconvenience" this person so he basically ignored the law... sometimes I think we are too tolerant. "Inadmissible" ? So what? Do they think she will suddenly become a completely law-abiding citizen once she becomes a Canadian citizen? Likely no, because she now knows that our gov't will let things slide for convenience. This person knew the rules, consciously lied to save money, is here on a Visa condition that she follow the laws and regulations, and she still decided to break the law. People gotta face the consequences. I got my drivers' license suspended in 2011 and lost my part-time job (which required me to drive), oh well. I fucked up, and I have no right to complain b/c I broke the law. It's time young people started actually taking responsibility for their actions.

I don't recall ever seeing salmon vendors at the Langley Farmers' Market. They might be able to accept an application from you. I'm assuming you haven't already explored that option, of course.

Thanks, I looked into them but they only have wednesdays from 2-6:30pm, not the best of hours.

Vancouver bar installs cell phone lock boxes for a different kind of social networking

Ok, we get it. We live in an age where it is the norm for most people to be literally attached to their cell phones.

You must have witnessed it; you and your friends get together for an evening out for drinks and dinner, and at one point or another, silence. Why? Is it because no one has anything to say? NO. It’s because everyone is either texting, or sexting, or tweeting, whatever — the point is, we’ve become so conditioned to the normalcy of it all, that we forget how incredibly rude we are being.

A bar in Vancouver has come up with an idea to put an end to this shameful behavior.

Score On Davie, located in Vancouver’s downtown core, has ingeniously installed lock boxes at the tables for patrons to ditch their cell phones. This way, they aren’t glued to their screens and can actually focus on the people around them.

When everyone from your party has arrived, the bartender gives you a key to the lockbox at your table. The Province explains. Once everyone has dumped their cellphones into the box, it is locked, and the key is returned to the bartender. If someone wants their cell phone back before the group is ready to leave — maybe they’re just dying to see their latest Facebook posts, or they’re determined to hit level 52 in their Candy Crush Saga — they may ask the bartender for the key. It'll cost them, though.

The person who caves must endure some penalty — most commonly it means buying the entire table a round of drinks.

[ More Daily Buzz: Drunk groom booted off plane for fighting with bride en route to honeymoon ]

Who remembers ‘phone stacks?’ It’s the popular bar game where everyone piles their phones in the middle of the table and whoever checks theirs first gets stuck with the bill! This lock box idea has been dubbed the 'extreme phone stack' challenge. It’s tougher when the phone is out of reach, literally locked in a box.

“Sometimes, the only ‘social network’ you need is the people in front of you,” Score said in a Facebook post.

Originally suggested by one of the Score’s servers, the cell phone lock boxes were launched in the bar on Friday.

“Everyone in the industry sees it – the group sits down, there’s six people and they’re all on their phones, texting, or instagramming their food,” said Score owner, Jesse Ritchie.

It’s embarrassing. People are forgetting how to act and even communicate with one another. Cell phones have become somewhat of a security blanket for those awkward moments when there is nothing to say.

We get it, you’ve got work, emails, and important people to stay in contact with at all times. But sometimes, you need to let it all go, even just for an hour or so, and lock away the phone, and be free.

Today my dad went to Costco to get new tires. He had 4 hubcaps on.
When he left, he did a walk around and saw 4 hubcaps.
Then he went shopping, and when he came out, one of his hubcaps had fallen off.
Take it as a loss and buy a replacement? Or complain?

I told him I'd buy him a new one and I would call and tell them their tire "professional" didn't put the hubcap on properly

So about once a year I go to the bottle depot with my collection of cans. However, I cannot stand being there for any longer than humanly possible so typically I sort all beer/pop cans at home in clear plastic bags then you just tell them the amount and give them the bag

Does anyone know if they have a problem accepting the clear blue plastic bags as opposed to the completely clear ones?

Colombia's fattest baby who weighs the same as a six-year-old rescued by charity after mother said she kept feeding him every time he cried

Colombia's most obese baby - who weighs the same as a six-year-old child - has been ‘rescued’ by a charity so he can undergo life-saving treatment.

Santiago Mendoza, eight months, already tips the scales at 3.1-stone, was flown from his home in the northeastern city of Valledupar to the capital Bogota on Sunday.

Volunteers from Medellin-based Chubby Hearts foundation (Gorditos de Corazon) stepped in to transport the boy after his mother Eunice Fandiño wrote in asking for help.
