Make sure you crawl underneath and check the rear frame rails, by the axles and the floor underneath the rear seat. They also like to go through axle link bushings.

DTES pop up is happening for the fifth year. Donations can be dropped off on Saturday's at Killarney.

All donations picked up at your front door are great as it gets reused. However most sell to Value village and it is owned by a private equity firm hence the higher prices in stores.

Sally Ann and the hospital thrift stores are great too but sometimes are too full to take more donations.

Honestly, I've ordered thru aliexpress. My last 3 pair of glasses were 26 dollars USD. My dad's progressive were 56 USD. I don't give a shit what brand name anymore.

Glasses are now fashion so I'm happy I have 5 pairs to swap instead of wearing it for 2 yrs. Only catch is you can't claim it via benefits; so i use the budget all on contacts.

Costco is good for glasses, as is Clearly Contacts. The last set of glasses I got before LASIK was from them with one of their free glasses promos. Because my prescription was so bad they were still fairly pricey with all the thinning upgrades and stuff which was a large part of why I opted to get someone to blast my eyes with freaking laser beams.

I have one in every vehicle. Whatever you do, don't get that shit from Costco. The one I got lasted once.......... too late to get warranty , because it sat in the car until I needed it, which was after warranty had ended (90 days). I have a heavy duty portable (not that portable) that I keep in the garage. Its a XXXXXXX (will update with name later). It is totally reliable.

Back to the ones I have in all my vehicles. Noco GB40 and GB70. Those jump starters are amazing. You can start just about any vehicle multiple times, I mean multiple vehicles without having to charge it up again. The GB70 I have in the SUV has been used three times to help others get going, and it is still at full capacity. It can also charge your devices and can, itself, be charged up via the 12v plug in your car. It actually uses a USB 5v. Takes overnight to charge, though. Anyway, wait until they go on sale at Canadian Tire.

You can even buy really nice cases for these things on Amazon. Makes it really nice when giving as a gift.

The starters come in three? sizes. I have the GB40 and the GB70. The GB150, I think, is overkill. Anyway..........

So why have a jump starter for an electric vehicle? Well, even though your main battery is fully charged, the vehicle needs the little 12 volt battery to actually start the car. If that battery ever dies, you're hooped.

Thanks for the tips guys. I was looking at NOCO's and Amazon has ones that are about 50% less, but I guess i'll just get him a NOCO since it seems like it's the most reliable. I asked my friends as well and one of them had a NOCO, he said he's had his in his car over a year and needed it and it was good to go.

The whole point of this thing is to be reliable, so might as well buck up for it.

I'm going to wait until Black Friday, I suspect the deals will be the best and it'll be perfect for Christmas.

Few things here
a) drink and drive is a no no.
b) Accident is accident, it's not 1st degree murder. Bad traffic accident are not necessary criminal charges worthy. It's tough for victims, but it's the truth.
c) If someone committed a crime / murder and a risk of him / her fleeing the country, country has the right to detain him or her. Low risk ones eg// parking tickets, speeding, traffic accidents are different. That's why there are warrants.

I recently killed 2 ratchets from the Stanley set I've been using for the last 10+ years and I'm torn between spending $35 to replace those 2 or $110 for a whole new 183 piece set from CT. I'm only missing 2 sockets from the set (surprisingly not the 10mm!) and I definitely don't need duplicates of all the SAE stuff I never ever use but that's not much more money for the other 183 piece. Actually, they are the place to get Craftsman tools replaced under warranty as well. I had one of those classic ratchets die on me. Went to Lowes, since they sell Craftsman, but they told me they don't do warranty. They suggested going to the DeWalt/Black & Decker repair store. That, I did.

Got a Stanley ratchet for replacement. I've regretted that move since it was the ratchet handed down to me by my father. Thankfully, I have another one. Not even going to use it or get it replaced. They don't make tools like they used to. I should have kept the other one and just taken the time to repair it. You can repair those things. That's what CT does with their Mastercraft ratchets.......... that's how often they break, lol. Anyway, not sure if Stanley is lifetime warranty or not.

Hi, it’s Sergeant Aaron Roed of the Vancouver police. In regard to the car accident and pedestrian struck in Vancouver….

This is one of those things which is a tragedy and it’s life changing for everyone involved. Desiree, the female who was physically affected by the car accident as well as the driver of the vehicle. We are not releasing any names in regard to that person at this time, although, I think, it’s kind of out there on social media who’s involved and that kind of stuff. What we are able to say is this appears to be a tragic accident. She did cross between, and this is new information that’s coming out. She did cross between the van and the trailer. Why this happened? Our investigators are still looking into it, and it will be a while for us to determine why she did that, if we are able, even, to ever determine why that happened. She is no state at all, and we don’t know that she ever will be, to answer that question. It does appear at this time to be an accident and the driver would not have known how and why this happened.

We are not proceeding with charges at this time. The investigation is ongoing. When all the information is gathered, it takes a while for something like this, for our collision investigation team to gather everything, put it all together and figure out why and how this happened. We may not know. We do know that she crossed behind the van… between the van and the trailer, while it was stopped and before it started moving again. So it appears that the vehicle was waiting to turn and she crossed. You can understand, but we don’t know why. There’s a lot of speculation. Was she trying to get a bus? We don’t know. Did she even recognize the trailer was there. We don’t know. We don’t have that answer yet, and that’s the evidence we are building at this time. Family is aware of the situation, and its very emotional for them to be going through this. That’s the tough part in any investigation like this that affects people so dramatically.

I don’t believe [there were witnesses], but there is video. That’s how we know that she crossed between the van and the trailer. {And you know it was stopped?} Yes. That’s why we are saying its a tragic accident and the driver would not have known that this was occurring as they were driving. At the time there were no charges and the investigation is ongoing. We don’t believe there is going to be charges laid against him. We are still gathering information. Things could change. Right now, in this time, there’s no charges being laid.

I risked life and limb on two fronts today. One: I drove around in Richmond. Two: I went to check out Foody World.

I haven't been there in like three years. Stopped going there when the city food inspectors shut down the place. Anyway, long story short it looks like they have yet to open that part of the store. 100% agree with this post. The best camera to have is the camera you have on hand. Taking a DSLR every place you go is a pain. If you still want a new camera get a compact mirrorless camera. Much easier to carry.

I ended up selling my DSLR and all my lenses etc just because I never saw myself travelling with it anymore. Not only is it a burden to carry it’s a target dangling around your neck.

Most phone cameras have been good for a while but the 11 pro max is something else:

You're also already hauling so much stuff around with a kid already the last thing you want is another bag, let alone one full of expensive stuff you have to worry about forgetting somewhere. I used my nice camera for a couple of her monthly photos and then haven't touched it since.

What I did do was get better phones for my wife and myself and set them (and my work phone) so double tapping the home button automatically brings up the camera without even needing to unlock the phone. Kids do stuff fast and their attention span is microscopic so being able to get pictures or video in a second is huge. Then get an account with something like Sync, again chuck the app on everything and upload the photos and videos you take right away so if you baby brain and leave your phone on the roof of your car and drive away it doesn't matter. If you want higher quality pictures hire someone to take family photoshoots every so often, that way you're in the shots too.

I ended up selling my DSLR and all my lenses etc just because I never saw myself travelling with it anymore. Not only is it a burden to carry it’s a target dangling around your neck.

Most phone cameras have been good for a while but the 11 pro max is something else:

As for the alarm thing. I had the same thing happen to me, except, I'm the original owner of the home. lol. Lost all the papers and stuff. Never really used the darn thing. It's a DSC. I went and got me a new brain to solve the issue. Then I can set my code from the factory default - and write it down this time. Just too fricken lazy to re and re. Just take off one wire at a time and put it on the new brain. You can tell I'm old school, calling it the brain, hee hee. This project is way over at the end of my things to do list.

I’m not sure if this guy is still working these days but Barry with Technique alarm might be able to help you guys. Just make it clear upfront you need help unlocking your DSC panel and aren’t interested in a monitoring contract.

I have radiant floor heating (water) and the pilot light on the boiler is on but it doesn’t fire up the rest of the boiler. I’ve turn on the thermostat, did a restart of the boiler and still nothing. Any ideas? Or any furnace/plumber recommendations?

Does the valve open up? If valve doesn't open up, nothing is going to light up. The valve is right at the base of the flue pipe (exhaust vent). It is controlled by a switch. If that is closed and the furnace/boiler starts up, it is lights out for you (pun intended).

For the first time I find myself with reman'd calipers and I'm thinking I should paint them. I don't know if they come coated from the manufacturer or not but I don't want them all rusty in a few months.

The question is the colour. My car is black and I run gold or black or white wheels. I like the idea of white but that seems impossible to keep clean given my lax attitude towards scrubbing things. Would yellow clash with the gold wheels too much? I suppose I could just paint those too. Red is always good but maybe a bit played out?

I have no known sense of style so it's a difficult decision for me lol.

If you want the brakes to stand out and they're not puny compared to the wheels, by all means, go red. If you want understated/clean go cast aluminum/gmg/black.

The coating that's on there is just to keep it from rusting after being rebuilt. Clean it off and paint with caliper paint. Don't forget to do the caliper mount too. Don't worry too much about the parts you can't see.

also start with an engine shampoo or similar, to clean off the poo and whatever smelly signs they left behind. I think they tend to return to places they're familiar with, so if you clean off as much as possible, it's less chance they return. And check under the hood again every so often... typical non-car people probably never open the hood, and that's when things go unnoticed, giant nests, chewed wires and hoses...

Honda sells anti-mouse tape to tape around the harnesses iirc, expensive stuff. We have a customer that asks us to (and supplies their own) apply bitter apple spray to the engine bay every time we do an oil change; i think its original purpose is to train pets not to chew things. And apparently it works for them

Can I run the furnace without an air filter for a while ?

What MERV rating are the filters you are using?

Some HVAC guys do recommend running lower rated MERV rated filters like a MERV 6 and change them out more frequently (1-2 months) in the winter.

Being that a MERV 6 filter will cause less restriction on the furnace system = less wear on your furnace. They arguably may not filter as better as a MERV 8+ filters but they often go on sale at HD & Canadian Tire so changing them out every month or two in the winter isn't so bad.

Not sure if serious... but yes, the impurities need to be emptied out the bottom and the filter is probably full of gunk. Also, the difference between the "low" and "full" on dipstick is only 1L of the 4-5L in the engine.

These stinking filters are like 20 bucks a pop !!! Expensive!!! My furnace only takes this weird 16x16x1 that’s available from rona.

I think it’s merv8 but I threw away the packaging. It’s 3M though.
We use DAFCO filters at the hospital I work at and they are generally much cheaper than retail filters.

There are other suppliers/manufacturers out there as well.

If you’re getting reduced performance during the winter months, my suspicion is that the filter media is getting damp. How much outside air is being brought into the furnace? Are there sources of moisture that may be getting into the return air?

Definitely do not operate without a filter.

I try not to get too annoyed, but my vehicles frequently get hit by crap no matter where I put them on the driveway and it gets frustrating. I've found all kinds of dents, scrapes, and dings (a lot from the stupid basketball net you can just see at the edge of the cameras view), had a buddies car get hit and run right out front, people going through vehicles and leaving the doors open, etc etc. Not once has anyone apologized for any of it. My eventual plan is to move out of town to where I can't even tell if I have neighbours, but for now the location is super convenient for when the kids go to school (walking distance from K to college).

I had a similar experience with fido few years back. I went into a fido store and wanted to get the $60/10gb BYOD. So i switched 2 lines over. The clerk made a mistake and somehow lost one of my phone #'s. She tried to get the # that she lost but failed. So i had to get a new #.she said would give me a $50 visa gift card via mail. . I was going to chop it up to make skid plates, but it turns out it's really expensive stuff (according to the internet) so even if I could get half of what the retail price is that's still 3x more than what premade skids cost. I'm tempted to sell it and just buy them but I have no idea how to sell something like this since shops and stuff would just buy it from a supplier.

I'm going by what was stamped on the sheets, the 4'x6' are 22 ga 304 (followed by a coil # and heat #?) and the 3'x10' are 0.062 AK Steel 7520256 301 FH AMS 5519 N.

I could only find pricing on this site https://www.onlinemetals.com/en/buy/stainless-steel-sheet-plate-301-full-hard, so I have no clue if they're insanely overpriced or something, but they have the 3x10 sheet of 301 for $581 US each and 4x6 of 301 would be about $150 US each. That'd be about $2300 CAD total. The skid plates I want would be about $600 delivered so if I got anything above that I'd be happy.

If that's totally out to lunch does anyone have a good resource for comparing types of metal? The skids plates are listed as 4mm magnesium-alloy, I take it being called "full hard" the 1.5mm 301 steel is pretty strong? I could double or triple it up but I have no clue how to ensure what I'm using is actually strong and I'm not underdoing it and effectively just putting tinfoil on the car.

if a shop is already using material like that then they'll prob buy it if it's a bit cheaper than the supplier. thing is that is pretty specific stuff, so no shop is gonna buy it unless they need exactly that, since they don't just want to have random shit taking up space in their shop. call around to a few sheet metal shops, doesn't hurt.

I'd check a few tubes and see what's the best fit. You don't need to worry about high temps or oil so I would think most of them will work, I'm guessing you'd want black and not orange or blue so it's more subtle. It takes a while to cure so park it somewhere dry and disconnect the battery so the door light doesn't kill it.

Is anyone familiar with the process for checking for pancreatic cancer? I have reason to believe that my dad might have it based on recent symptoms he has been having with his health.

Does he go to his regular doctor, tell them he wants to get checked, and they try to get him booked at a specialist?

I'm wondering what the timeline is like because I also found a local company called Prenuvo that seems to be able to screen for many kinds of issues with the pancreas (and other organs) at reasonable prices with same week bookings (based on their online appointment system).

And a bit more of a general question, but if someone is confirmed to have cancer, are they generally fast-tracked for medical appointments and such?

Went through it with my Grandma and at first we went to our family doctor then told him the symptoms. They referred us to a coastal health clinic to get blood work done to confirm whether or not it was cancer. Process took about 3 weeks iirc. When it was confirmed we had to go to a specialist at St Paul's to receive care. Unfortunately it was late stage so not much other than palliative care could be done. Wish you the best of luck.

It’s hard to even see it there because pancreas is at the back.


This disease sucks. My dad passed away from this. Came very quickly. Just go straight up to the family doctor and ask for referrals.

First, does your father have a GP or does he deal with walk in? I have heard and seen stories at walk in. Some GP's dont want old or cancer patients.

I would start at GP to get bloodwork and preliminary diagnosis and then switch to False Creek for fast track scans if you are experiencing a long wait.

I had full executive package at False Creek. I had every organ ultrasound scanned and so many tests I cant remember. (Benefit provided by my employer at the time)

You can pay and see a doctor at False Creek instead of going to GP but I am am hoping, I dont pray, that you are wrong and your GP will give your dad a clean bill of health.

I paid for prenuvo scan December 2018. Human body is always changing so clean scan doesn't mean that is permanent.

I would go False Creek before another Prenuvo

In my opinion, speed depends on your GP and health region. My dad waited a week for an MRI and a friend waited 2.5 years.
