I'll be moving soon and still need to find a bed frame without breaking the bank. Decided on new and want a Captain's / Storage bed. Shopping around and some of the prices are just...

:heckno:

Trying to look around smaller local shops. Anyone know of any good places to go?

I saw this one shop called 'Imperial Furniture' out in Richmond and it all seems pretty appealing. Not looking for exquisite design, just something that I can sleep on :alone:

Spoke to a rep and they told me it's cash only deals, hence my hesitation but still considering it and their website says they've been in the business for 40 years. Any help would be great.

Thanks

When I grew up in the DTES, we had to have our mattress off the floor, otherwise the cockroaches and mice would make life miserable. Actually, sleeping off the floor didn't help all that much.

god, I really wonder how my sister and I ever survived. I am so glad my kids will never have to face that sort of shit.

I appreciate everything I have a 1001 times infinity. I still have nightmares of cockroaches crawling on the ceiling.

When I saw the old place on that movie, Deadpool, I cringed a little.

Happy Labour Day, RS.

I know a lot of people on RS are not union supporters, but the union has done a lot to raise and improve the standard of living and working conditions in both the US and Canada. And, the hard work they have done has had its effect on non-union jobs, as well. Labour codes and other standards.

I also know there are more than a few union supporters on RS who don't say anything, because being vocal on the subject of unions and job action on a forum such as RS is pointless.

Anyhow, the only complaint I have with unions is the fact that it gives lazy workers a safe haven. Even people who had good work ethics at one point in their lives go full on retard and become the laziest and dumbest fucks on the planet once they join a union.

If unions only took care of wages and working conditions, they wouldn't be so bad. Corruption, like in all organizations exists, but more so when unions are involved.

So for a brief second or two, let us thank all those who fought for the working class........

I'm in a pretty good union and I can't agree more with you there. People get hired, work their asses off for a few years until they've become full-time employees, pass the probationary stage and then that's it. They think they're on easy streak for life and just give up working thinking they're invincible, but they're not. There's always a way to remove someone from a job.

No, but I think Dollar-shave club was bought by Gilette so prices may not stay that way much longer.

I recently bought a run-of-the-mill electric shaver and I'm loving every minute of it. I also used to shave with a razor every 3-4 days (asians, ha) - until I bought a philips something or other from LD for $50. Highly recommend.

6o4__boi
09-06-2016, 10:16 AM
i looked into it...i think it was Unilever that bought DSC

also looks like Gilette also has something similar
but theirs is tied into Amazon and looks more complicated
i'll probably give DSC a shot at $3.50 a month

i've actually never had an electric shaver...the prices always put me off

If cost saving is ur goal, you should just use safety razors, you can even get a better shave from them.. replacement blades cost pennies each

Before i used Gilettes i used Schick for 5 years or so

I found they were pretty much useless after a couple of weeks
the hydrating strip fell apart within a week and it'll pretty much nick you all the time after that's gone

Gilettes usually last me a bout a month or two, shaving every day or every other day

StylinRed

http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0545/2477/products/front-profile-razor.jpg?v=1447399895

U just buy new blades and put em in

http://malegrooming.com.au/media/catalog/product/f/e/featherblade.jpg

They're so cheap to refill u could switch a new blade everyday if u wanted and it would still be cheaper than those gilletes Mach/hydro blades, but they're sharp enough to last you ages, longer still if u strop em (some do)

The notion that electric shavers don't get as clean as a cut as manual blades is what also put me off for the longest time. Plus I didn't want to spend $300 on the top of the line ones.

But for someone who shaves twice a week (ie. not hairy at all) they get close enough.

Plus its far, far more convenient.

I got the PT860/20 (on sale right now at LD), and it's as good a shave as any blade i've used so far (been using 5 blade schick if it makes a difference). Give it a try!

I usually get the big 52-count box of Gillette 2-blade disposables from Costco. My last box probably lasted me 4 years lol.

Though it's not much, it grows just fast enough that I have to shave daily. When it grows out more than a day or two I get the patchy pedo-stache thing going on #hairlessasianmaleproblems.

I was at the Coquitlam Ikea last night, just before they closed. Long line up. Behind me was this young mother with a maybe 6 month old baby. This baby had an ear ring. I asked the mother if the ear was pierced. WTH? Judging by the looks of the mom, this baby was headed for a Honey Boo Boo life.

I guess it's better than getting a tattoo done on the kid, but what if the baby did not want an ear piercing? I don't know. Maybe I'm just out of touch with today's world. Plus, it's really none of my business.

Usually a year......... at least. Don't sweat it. Like the saying goes, "Don't call us, we'll call you." And, if they don't after let's say, ten months, then call with your ticket number and details. I'd check right away if any points were added to your record or not. It's simple to do. If the points aren't on there, it's in the system. Like the lottery, it may not even show up. I had one that just magically disappeared. Called a year and a half later and lady said, "Nope........ never got filed. Lucky you."

Has anyone ordered online or bought furniture in store from Structube (https://www.structube.com/)?
How were delivery times and customer service? So many items are back ordered or need to be "shipped from Montreal" and they have a lot of worrying reviews. :/

ya the one at rupert/22nd. the rezoning billboard is up. they're gonna build a lowrise mixed use, similar to the one across the street with the rucky 88 restaurant. who knows maybe they got a deal to come back into the retail space below.

is there a way to make a Word document into a PDF (or something similar) but in the PDF, everything is like an image, where the words aren't highlightable and be copy pasted elsewhere. IE: I made something in Word that I need to share with ppl, but I don't want them copy pasting my stuff to steal it and use it as their own.

Whats to stop them from physically copying down what you wrote or using those camera apps that turn images into texts?

just copy what you have in your word doc and paste it in the PDF and then protect it.

Well, if you have a Mac, just go to "Print." In the dialog box there is a drop down button that reads, "pdf." Just choose where you want it and a few other choices, and you're done.

Your original stays as is..........

You can do this on anything that can be printed, including web pages.

Hell, you can even take a screen shot of whatever. It's quick and dirty. I use "command-4" and the OS lets you select the area you want to take a screen shot of. As soon as you type the key combination, your cursor turns into a cross hair with co-ordinates. Click-drag and as soon as you let go, a camera shutter alert sound indicates you're done. The file shows up on yur desktop.

Was at Superstore on Grandview Hwy this evening depositing a cheque. I look for those envelopes and there aren't any. Damn......... kiosk chick says, "Oh don't worry, you don't need envelopes anymore." Okay, so I do the usual. When I press deposit, the door for envelope opens and asks for the cheque. Not thinking about it, I put the cheque in. Good thing I remembered exactly what amount was on the cheque. Next thing, it says it can't recognize the amount. LOL. Anyway, the freaking machine had scanned the cheque and asked if I wanted to see it. Yes, I do, sir/madam, I say to myself. I confirm the amount via the keypad and then it wanted to know if I wanted the scanned image printed onto the receipt.......... damn, I LIKE IT!

It's probably not a new thing, but it was a first for me.

Dude before me was using the machine and he was like inserting 700 bucks in 100 dollar bills all at once. Damn.......... then he proceeds to pay a bill. He was a little confused, but it all went through, I guess. I wouldn't be putting no money into some godless machine, LOL.

goodbye, Aurora

https://shawglobalnews.files.wordpress.com/2016/11/aurora.jpg?quality=70&strip=all&w=720&h=480&crop=1
:QQ:

It’s with immense sadness that we share the passing of beluga whale Aurora. As detailed last week and through daily updates on her condition, Aurora had been sick for the past two weeks, showing symptoms of abdominal cramping, loss of appetite and lethargy. Our marine mammal care team, under the guidance of head veterinarian Dr. Martin Haulena, and a host of veterinary specialists, pathologists, marine biologists and other experts from around-the-world, had been working relentlessly to provide treatment, investigate her symptoms, adjust her medication, and ensure she had therapeutic care.

After a determined around-the-clock effort by animal care staff and the veterinary team, she slipped away this evening surrounded by the people who loved her, some whom have cared for her since she first arrived in 1990. To our team, Aurora was a part of our family and her loss is absolutely heartbreaking. The marine mammal care team working night and day to care for her are our true heroes, even if we lost the battle.

We will continue to explore the cause or causes of Qila and Aurora’s sudden illness — a necropsy will be conducted by Dr. Haulena and he will continue to consult with other specialists across the globe as we continue the investigation.

Named after the aurora borealis, or northern lights, Aurora immediately won hearts and inspired generations of visitors, employees and volunteers with her curious nature and gentle personality. Along with the other belugas at the Aquarium, including her daughter Qila, Aurora taught millions about her incredible species and its rapidly changing ecosystem in the wild. The whales have contributed to studies on their physiology, hearing and acoustic abilities; provided baseline data for studies in the wild; and helped scientists discover unique vocalizations between beluga whale mothers and calves, called contact calls. This groundbreaking research began at Vancouver Aquarium in 2002; beluga whales Aurora and Qila contributed to those early studies.

The past two weeks have been extremely difficult and today’s loss has left a hole in our hearts. On behalf of our team of 1,500 staff and volunteers, we’d like to thank everyone who has reached out to us with warm messages of support and offers of help. You’ve shared countless stories of how Aurora and Qila have impacted you and your family and we’re grateful to everyone who has shared those connections with us. Please continue doing so.

no more belugas at the aquarium

Poor Aurora, may she finally, finally rest in peace. Also, RIP to her daughter Qila and her calf, Tiqa.

Too many tragedies. Born in captivity, studied and probed. Put out to amuse................. IMHO, it's about time it ended. These magnificent creatures do not deserve this fate. Yes, they die in the wild, but at least they die in freedom.

The story goes on to say, "We learned so much about their species." How they communicate and all that............ one day, we will be the ones captured and put on display for some other species' amusement and curiosity.

Earlier story about Qila's passing.............

Vancouver Aquarium?s resident beluga whale Qila dies - BC | Globalnews.ca (http://globalnews.ca/news/3070807/vancouver-aquariums-resident-beluga-whale-qila-dies/)

“Qila’s death is extremely sad, but the fact she spent 21 years in a concrete pool instead of being free in the open ocean is tragic,” said Vancouver Humane Society spokesperson Peter Fricker in a release.

Fricker said whales and dolphins suffer in captivity, as they are highly intelligent and social animals, which have evolved to thrive in a specific environment that cannot be replicated in captivity.

/sermon.

my two bits............. that is all.

Imo it's easy for people like us to say ban animals like this in captivity when we are so privileged to basically step out our door and see them in their natural habitat

However, imo Zoo's and places like sea world, have a place in this world. Without them animals would likely never get the exposure required for people to actually care enough about them to make a difference. It's one thing to see them on TV and in pictures, it's somthing entirely different to see them in person.

I've made this case before but the amount of orcas in captivity throughout the world is somthing like 60, if having those 60 on for display for the human race enables one person, or a small hand full of people to care enough to do somthing to save 5/10/20/100 was it not worth it?

I think people in general will care a lot less about animals and especially endangered ones when they can no longer see them or at the very least, hear about them in the news and media

underscore
11-26-2016, 07:10 AM
I was under the impression the larger animals kept in the Vancouver Aquarium were only ones that had been rescued and were unable to be returned to the wild. "Dying in freedom" sounds great and all, but if they would die within a short time of being released it's not so wonderful.

So the article says that the report came in at noon about the missing child but the amber alert didn't go out until 7:00pm? I understand that they go through the procedures of investigating what's going on and who possibly did what, but 7 hours seems like an excessive amount of time to get the alert out. If planned properly the abductor (in this case the mother) could have been over the border and at the south end of Oregon state by the time the Amber Alert went out.

MG1
11-26-2016, 10:11 AM
I think it's because they weren't too sure if they should proceed or not. It was the mother who abducted the child. Usually they don't issue an Amber Alert unless it is deemed important enough - as in immediate danger. They eventually issued it because the mother was a bit unstable and had no coping skills or something like that. Plus, they probably believed they could be found in a timely matter. If all abductions were placed on Amber Alert, we would be hearing that eerie sound way too often.

agree with this, except in the case of Seaworld
If they were rescuing injured animals and caring for animals that couldn't survive in the wild any longer, sure, charge people admission to pay for costs. But Seaworld is a listed company on the stock exchange out to make a profit purely through the exploitation of these animals... that's wrong.

watch the documentary BlackFish, it'll likely change your views on Seaworld

(http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/samsung-samsung-65-4k-uhd-hdr-led-smart-tv-un65ks9000fxzc-un65ks9000fxzc/10414916.aspx) which was on sale for $3499.99 at Best Buy yesterday... Now its at $3999.99 and its also sold out. Anyone know anywhere else I can find this for a good price and/or recommend something similiar or even better?

Last year, Black Friday had WAAAAAAAYYY better deals on electronics than Boxing Day. Was actually quite sad.

I know because I chose to wait until boxing day and paid around $400 more for my electronics. (Totalling around 2.5k)

Has anyone been a cadet?

Can anyone tell me why for all these years they endure the elements, no matter how cold or hot, in their uniforms to accept donations in front of supermarkets?

Not that it is my concern, and I don't mean to rude or insulting in any way, but I'm just curious, instead of standing outside with a can, could they not expend their efforts to other fundraising activities?

Could they not wash cars or have a bake sale instead? It seems much more effective than standing all day for getting nickels and dimes

I think it could be exposure and probably part of their training, as well. I talk to them when I can about their base and affiliation.

They are all so polite and well mannered.

Better than getting into drugs and vandalizing............... as for bake sales...... Girl Guide cookies, ftmfw!

I was in army cadets through high school and fundraising outside is no different than girl guides selling cookies outside a supermarket and usually they're only there for a few hours. There's more traffic from standing in a populated area than there is hoping that people are hungry or have a car to wash which can take a bit of time and take several people at once. IF they had a car wash and you were to go to it how much would you donate? 5...10$? sit there for 10 minutes and have 5-6 kids rushing through washing it and probably resulting in you going home and re washing it yourself, or take 40 kids and scatter them around entrances to super markets/malls and have hundreds of people walk past them donating 25c to 2$ at a time.

It's the uniforms that get people. Some of the guys were in cadets with me moved on to enlisting in the army and are now 10+ years in making the army their full time job. Some people see those kids and it gets to them because they may know a family member or a friends child/parent who has served and it melts their hearts thinking those kids could be the ones guarding you one day.

After many hours of brainstorming, we came up with the name, "Operation RevNose."

That was a long time ago.

It hasn't operated (pun intended) since our dispatcher left the country.

Find another dispatcher and we can try to get it up and running.

We had a lot of fun for the two years it ran...........

Even though I'm a Buddhist, I love non-secular music of the christian kind.

Even Gregorian Chant........... Schubert's Ave Maria always gets me in the feels. Yes, I took Music History at UBC along with Composing. Music is in my blood. It all started when I enrolled in summer band camp, lol.

Anyone ever have their fireplaced serviced in the Tri-Cities?
Any recommendations on a good company? How much do they usually charge?

Mine started acting up yesterday. Pilot light still on but not turning on when i switch the thermostat up. I'm hoping it's just a thermostat/switch issue but just in case it's worse, i could use some recommendations of a place I can call. Thanks!

Anyone ever ship a TV before?

I'm moving back to Vancouver and haven't been able to sell my 40" TV that isn't a significant loss. I checked Canadapost and it seems like it's only about $50-60 to ship it.. I know it might end up breaking but I have all the original packaging and what not.

Can't really decide if $50-60 is worth the gamble of losing the entire TV or just sell it for cheap and "lose" the $300.

How much did the TV cost to begin with (and when did you buy) and how much does it cost now? Might be a factor when considering whether to just get a new one or sell it for a loss but guaranteed to cover the cost of a new TV.

Bought it originally for $500 last year (looks like about ~$400 but I do understand TV values go down fast) and posted it up for $350 but all I've been getting is lowball offers of around $200 lol.

This question probably belongs to the auto chat group but don't want to start a new thread in case of being flamed. All I wanted to know is if a Honda dealership can transfer inventory from another dealer. I know some of the other manufacturers can do that, but wondering if honda can say like from Destination Honda to Richmond Honda. Thanks!
