Based on that, yeah, I think the way to go is to get a receiver to connect the speakers to and to connect your turntable into it. I don't think you need to go balls-out on a receiver given these are ceiling-mounted speakers, and you don't know what they are.

Your use case is simple enough where you can get a basic Sonos setup and it will more than satisfy your requirements with lots of room to grow. :)

The vinyl community has grown tremendously over the years which also meant new products to get into the hobby. You have lots of options and varieties to choose from.

Edit: If you decide you want help repairing the Technics receiver, try "The Turntable Shop" in North Van. The original owner passed away but the current manager, Connor, learned a great deal from him and is familiar with vintage HiFi repair. I knew the original owner as he helped me repair an old Technics turntable and vintage Marantz receiver way back in the day.

Kind of related to Sonos. Does anyone have any idea of where to get info for some home stereo stuff? I have no fucking clue, but the PO of my place was a bigwig in the music industry, and as such has the whole place wired with speakers for his huge vinyl collection.
Me being a vinyl connoisseur with about 14 records and climbing, need to wire my record player to take advantage of this. All the wiring is there, so I’m assuming I just need a receiver? Any suggestions?

The speakers are already wired into the ceiling in every room. There’s about 6 sets of wires for them but I don’t know what kind they are. Most are 10”
I have a pro-ject turntable. Currently I have it just running through a single Marshall speaker with a little mini amp. I’d be cutting out the speaker and mini amp and wiring directly to the receiver and wiring the speakers to the receiver.
My buddy gave me a vintage technics receiver, but it doesn’t seem to be functioning. Might just be a fuse or might be something beyond that, that needs repair. I haven’t spent the time yet to get it working, but think maybe getting something newer that I can at least play digital music as well might make more sense since my collection is so small.
I should mention I have no interest in hooking it up to the TV for movies or anything, since we never really watch anything other than bluey, which for the record is actually awesome, but doesn’t require HI-FI to enjoy lol.
Hey Westopher, you can get a multi zone receiver to manage the speakers so that you can decide whether to play them in 1 room, 2 room, all rooms etc. A lot of the newer ones will also come with Bluetooth/Airplay/Chromecast capability so you can send Spotify/Amazon Music etc. to them for use.

If you want to talk more offline (probably easier to get details regarding zones/power/features etc.) you can DM me or get my number from Culverin/GMS.

Speakers are in multiple rooms, so I’d need something that allows for the ability to pick speakers to play. All the wiring terminates in the same place though. That said I only really care if the living room and kitchen are set up cause I’m not gonna play records upstairs and go sit in my room downstairs

Hondaracer

That’s really the best case scenario I’m sure if you spent like $700-$1000 you could get an amazing backbone receiver that can manage zones etc. probably AirPlay or whatever built In as well. *Edit a quick search if you’ve got like 10+ speakers it’s actually probably gonna be fairly pricey to be able to use them all with 1 amplifier

This stupid shit just adds up and up like you gotta pay for a higher level subscription to get Dolby Atmos on streaming services? :/ lol so fucking stupid like I have Prime, Crave, Disney+ and now I need to pay the next level up to get the higher quality audio for the system I buy.. OpieOP

I have something similar to this: https://www.primecables.ca/p-358974-cab-8232-monoprice-4-channel-ab-speaker-selector-w-volume-control

It allows a 2 channel amp to run 8 speakers 4 zones. Then you can get an amp like this: https://www.amazon.ca/Fosi-Audio-BT20A-Replaceable-Adjustment/dp/B0DN51F69R?crid=22KFDR91CSK1T&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.1dWNMWdDxwk1gry2FePO39BToeTbJ2LfN X85j9i-DzCjCjf7mEhuZjLlKxrawhY7513XyyVs-ess701XWvr01UX68tUo3hOLPhDO97r_s0SpnKV6UrlPv5oRrO3 mhIlhbKKPbXbXxe6ar9uQE_cC6eIW3PoeJdo3_je8vemqRS6cR 1mozgp9Ux-B0xjmPYvqp5sFobbw6WY1-9I1RxPxaFsBA754y6gDy-KQOY2U5kw7V0cGN8hvnUZpGF1j3WRgryO4VIRtNQGZmr80PuW8 nrUM51KKfnGDf0YQE2U4xvw.GVDql32me3BJaDc9nfswfGdUyg If-57QMnNM6AArUuY&dib_tag=se&keywords=fosi+amplifier&qid=1755233969&sprefix=fosi+amplifier%2Caps%2C247&sr=8-6

Depending on the turntable you will need a pre amp like this to connect to the amp: https://www.amazon.ca/Fosi-Audio-Phono-Preamp-Turntable/dp/B08TLRPMDC?crid=2V9LG573IZPE4&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.X2IL7W99jGlElBJh9MfvPWi0WNrHfYL-Su304KeFZWpy_8Rza4L6qWeK6FXPkcvF4lhYvahu43XGw1RzCI i7KUf0RhcDtjVY9j5TVUdiFwf_Ok32Uy8XY4f7e5M6RF7aoH0j fcoK75C7mkd9Sm8lgSPR0RbvVNj3gZkUu8e22ERz51h7UZ73Nw sAwTtdidQ1tPfF5iFZb7k-GeslRfWxgXptQITCpZrriDPdMYzGZX5Az9JG542wT96AGQRa19 ZHj7rB7ghg5ZBQQ3tEat89ymn-Zi7O_NkafdII9VZDpBA._CQ1WZAR_uG-Ypiji8v1OV57lDH1jqaM_xwFawWwyyM&dib_tag=se&keywords=turntable+amplifier&qid=1755234915&sprefix=turn%2Caps%2C289&sr=8-18

I struggle a lot with unions.

On one hand, I see the value. Unions are there to ensure that jobs are protected and workers aren't trampled on by rich employers. That's important. Without unions, it's a race to the bottom.

But unions are also their own worst enemy. I find they can be so stubborn, unwilling to acknowlege reality, and also the cause of their own problems.

It's easy for someone to agree with the premise that FAs should be paid for time spent on the ground working.

Having a junior FA making $25k a year or something like that is absurd.

But what they don't tell you is the existing wages are inflated in order to already compensate for time on the ground. So they ARE being paid for ground time. That said, are they due for a raise? Yeah probably.

I think the reason junior FAs are paid terribly is because union seniority allows all the senior FAs to pick the best routes, like premium long haul flights that maximize time in the air during a shift, while the juniors work 11 hour days doing 6 segments and thus spend half the time on the ground. Isn't that pay inequality between senior and junior FAs the unions's fault?

Sucks for passengers who get screwed at the end of the day.

The postal worker union is another example that readily comes to mind. At this point, if they continue to refuse to accept the reality that Canada Post's current business model is completely unsustainable, the whole corporation is just gonna collaspe.

In fact, at this point, I think it is far better for the federal gov to just let Canada Post collaspe and file for bankrupty, with no further gov funding injections. Then once CP goes into receivership, the federal gov can form a new dept / crown corp to buy up CP's assets at bankruptcy price and start all over again -- except this time, the CBA will actually reflect the realities of a viable business model in today's mail and parcel delivery sector.

Except it would SUCK to see 60,000 people out of work, many of them probably won't be able to find replacement jobs with the same income or benefits.

I always think about what if my dad/uncle/aunt whomever was a postal worker. Obviously you dont' want to see people lose their jobs who are older and will be impacted more negatively than others who can easily retrain.

But then again, 5 day a week door-to-door delivery is totally unnecessary right now. And if my dad had to work Saturdays in order to keep his job, i'm pretty sure he'd have no problem with that.

Also if my dad had to work for a full 8 hours and lose the perk finishing early and heading home but still being paid a full shift, I'm sure he'd be ok with that too. Yeah it sucks, but we all have to adapt.

things for sure can be adjusted based on how the model is, but trying to start from scratch will be HILARIOUSLY ineffective. Can you imagine how many hundreds of millions will be spent on the logistics of creating something? The government doesn’t have a good track record of making new things lately. Well.. throughout time, jobs cease to exist

Go down to mail delivery a couple times a week, cut your labour force, make people retire who are making $$$ compared to new hires.

It’s totally unsustainable as it’s structured. Unions would rather jobs not exist at all than adjust their expectations based on reality

It's infuriating how the union insists on a system of inefficiency. Same with the port of Vancouver and what Hobz was complaining about.

Unions were needed in certain time in history, and also probably dealing with crooks like Telus and Shaw, but the time of unions for crown or gov't positions is long in the past.

I agree it sucks to see all 60k CP employees be out of work. On the other hand, businesses and employment come and go. It's all part of the ever present business and labour churn. What we have right now is a totally non-viable business model that does not serve the needs of the public, and require recurring injections of large sums of public funding to keep the crown corp afloat. In the normal private sector, the company would have been bankrupt many times already.

EI lasts for up to 45 weeks, and I'm sure federal labour laws would require additional severence benefits on top of EI. So those people getting laid off aren't just being left out in the cold to rot and die.

In the end, somebody is gonna foot the bill when a business model falls apart. I am vehemently against the public being the one to foot the bill when it is so blantantly obvious that the business model no longer works, but the @#(*$)@# union just refuses to accept that reality, and forces the federal gov to keep throwing good tax dollars after the bad to keep this failed business afloat.

Would CP really be starting from scratch again? In my mind, the plan would unfold more like a new investor / new management buying out a struggling business, fire all the highly paid / redundant / obsolete staff as much as it can, and then rebuild / restructure the whole company again while using as much (or as little) of the existing logistics and infrastructures as it is reasonable to do so.

You do have a point about the Turdeau Liberals being extremely wasteful on hiring consultants at 1000x of what they are worth. I'd hope the Carney Liberals being far more stingy on loosening the purse strings, but Carney alone can't control all these frontline details.

I'd say if there ever is a reconstitution of CP, there's going to be a line item to have to rehire first before TFW. And TFW is going to be harder and harder to come by in the next few years as the clamp down on diploma mills continue.

Doesn't it kind of feel like this is a problem across the board in many sectors of work and industry? Air Canada strikes, daycare worker strikes, nurses, on and on.

It's starting to feel like so many facets of our economy are just breaking down due to affordability crises. Services are raising prices multiple times a year, everything is costing more, with less.

Things that worked economically in the past just don't seem to work anymore. It feels like its all leading to some kind of breaking point.

Still have a boarding pass and supposed to leave at 3pm but apparently even for scheduled flights a lot of FA’s are calling in sick to ground the planes. Such a bunch of bullshit.

They got so lucky, their flight just took off… lots of people stranded and sleeping at the airport.

Sounds like a bit of everyone's fault.

Victim for doing such a labourous job at her age and with chronic health issues.

Union for not listening to their members about the complaints.

Employer for not hiring more workers and giving increased workloads.

SFU is probably the least to blame IMO.

That's great to hear. Keep in mind, if they didn't already know, if their return flight is cancelled because of the strike, they'll be eligble for UK261 compensation. UK261 is way stronger than Canadian regulation.

If their return flight is cancelled they could get 600 euros compensation, and air canada is required to give them an alternative flight, plus meals and hotel :)

As much as I hate unions (side note: who the fuck would wear UFCW swag???), I'd say the biggest 'monster' is the contractor. They run labour farms while getting subsidies from us taxpayers. Fuck them.

Went to beijing in january. Was fine with credit cards and cash but having wechat pay will probably make life easier. The CCP clamped down on security, massive security checkpoints at all famous sites, must carry passport with you at all times. You also need some foreigner permission form submitted in advance to enter tiananman square.

I'm heard horror stories of foreigners showing up with Alipay suddenly not working. I downloaded it and registered, even scanned my passport, added a couple credit cards. Am I good to go? Can I test it here at Chinese places in Van?

Also downloaded Amap to act as Google Maps

What else? Can I just use Didi in the Alipay App or do I need to download the standalone app?

I went back in 2017 and it was already different. You'll need one of their electronic payment systems. I couldn't even get a coffee with cash when I was seeing a friend. He laughed at me and treated me.

Only the really old school places take cash.

Also the major stations all require you to xray your bags, taking the train is like taking a plane it was kind of insane

bcrdukes
08-16-2025, 12:25 PM
I was in Shanghai and Fuzhou in December 2019, just before COVID-19.

You need to have AliPay or WeChat Pay on your phone. Cash? You'll get laughed at and ridiculed, just like how we make fun of new-rich peasant farmers who come to Canada. The only place I was able to use cash was at McDonald's when the cashier lady (probably a grandmother) knew we were not locals and felt really sorry for us, and had to ask her manager to authorize us to pay for our meal in cash. Had it not been for meeting up with family, we would have been screwed. I tried to pay for a family dinner and the staff at the restaurant laughed right at my face, and my uncle had to tell him I wasn't from here. They both laughed together at me. :okay:

Edit: I should emphasize and encourage you to bring some cash, but you may not be able to use much of it, depending on where you go. Be prepared for oddball side eye stares. Even street vendors will only (prefer) to take electronic payment. Good idea on getting food apps for your phone - do your research on which apps work depending on where you go. If you use a travel eSIM, depending on which carrier you are using and how it is setup, you may or may not be exposed to the Great Firewall. If you use, say for example, your RoBellus SIM, your data will be served by Canadian servers, so no Great Firewall limitations. Enjoy your trip and please let us know how it goes.

This is what Google said:

To set up Alipay as a foreigner, you'll need to download the Alipay app, register with your international phone number or email, and verify your identity using your passport. You can then link your international credit or debit cards, like Visa or Mastercard, to your account for payments.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:

1. Download and Install:
Download the official Alipay app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).

2. Register Your Account:
Open the app and tap on "Sign Up" or "Register".

Enter your international phone number or email address.

Follow the prompts to verify your phone number or email with a verification code.

3. Verify Your Identity:
Navigate to the "Me" tab, then "Settings," then "Account & Security," then "Identity Verification".

You'll need to upload a photo of your passport and possibly complete a facial verification process.

Alipay will then verify your identity, which can take a few hours or longer.

4. Link Your International Card:
Go to the "Me" tab and tap on "Bank Cards".

Add your Visa, Mastercard, JCB, Discover, or Diners Club card.

You may need to verify the card with your bank, such as through an OTP (One-Time Password).

5. Start Using Alipay:
Once your account is verified and your card is linked, you can start using Alipay for payments in China.

You can scan QR codes at stores or present your personal payment code for merchants to scan.

Important Notes:
It's recommended to download the app and complete the verification process before traveling to China to avoid potential connectivity issues.

Some banks may charge foreign transaction fees for using your card with Alipay, so it's a good idea to check with your bank.

While you can link your international card, some users find that using a Chinese bank card or a prepaid card (like TourPass) offers broader acceptance.

My understanding is that you can link your foreign card to alipay/wechat pay before you enter china. Also if you are entering on a transit visa beware that the great wall is not considered part of the beijing area so you could get into trouble.

Beijing metro ticket machines took cash, the marriott hotel I stayed at for reason didnt firewall western content, took amex etc. The "nicer" restaurants + western fast food chains all took credit cards.

And yeah I agree that e-visas are a cash grab disguised as "border security" and ruin spontaneous travel. UK this year, EU next year what next?

It's called "The Lychee Road"

king tasted lychee from some place, loves it and wanted to send to his concubine. So he gave this dreadful task to a mayor, but, 1 day it loses freshness, 2 days in, it changes color, 3 days in and it stars to lost its smell.

It's still the same - foreign SIM cards route all traffic back to the home country (Canadian servers in our case), so western content remains accessible as long as you stay on the roaming sim card's data plan. Connecting to local WiFi (EDIT: or local sim) will put the device behind the firewall.

Ignore. They'll send you a few scary looking letters and have Wiggins call you. You can block their number and they'll go away. My last straw with them was when we were in ER and we got a ticket because we couldn't renew in time while getting tests done, I will never pay for parking tickets with these places.

Absolutely put a bullet in this guy. There needs to be more sense involved when it comes to de-escalation, and force. The problem is, if you refuse to play the game, other people start wondering why you are being weird. Then you have to explain to them that the entire system we're living in is a massive illusion and totally fake and gay.

Becoming a hermit is harder than you think, but easy to maintain once you get to that place in life. It has a lot of rewards you wouldn't expect, probably why so many famous people became hermits because it is such a noble endevour to rid yourself of the average person's company.

A lot of the time, being a hermit was only for the upper classes and people who could afford to shirk all duties and just disappear. I actually really enjoy the time I spent in total isolation and I already miss it. So much effort is required to play stupid to pretend to fit into regular society with the 9-5 slaves and pretend you have the same interests as you row through yet another dullard conversation...

The hard case on my Mastercraft socket set shit the bed after 15+ years and split in the middle. I have it ghetto taped together using Tuck Tape but this obviously ain't a long term solution. I don't have a garage to buy a big toolbox to transfer the sockets etc to and I'm too cheap to buy a new set with a new case when there's nothing wrong with the tools now. Would prefer something mobile. Any good ideas? Thinking of some lockable socket rails and then a small box with drawers or something, but takes up more real estate than what I have now.

The loose socket set a friend gave me I tossed onto socket rails and put into a rollable tool bag. It's about the same number of pieces as my main set but it's much smaller than they are in a hard case, which is nice because I bring it on any road trips or 4x4 outings.

It's Mastercraft Maximum that carries the lifetime warranty, not the regular stuff, and they've started to reduce it significantly in the last few years as well. You need to read the fine print to see if your "Maximum" tool you are thinking of buying is indeed lifetime.

LIFETIME WARRANTY

The dog would not move an inch from this guys side, was obviously incredibly well trained and being a vet, I’m assuming he, unlike most people understood the importance of dog being leashed.

That’s the only dog I’ve ever seen, likely in my entire life, that should/could be off-leash. Every other dog, if you think your dog can just be off leash out in public, you’re an idiot.

I mean the guy who was bit did have 1 of the 2 types of dogs that’s more dangerous than a pit, so I’m surprised it wasn’t a lot more of a dog fight.
Not like it helps now, but best thing you can do is grab back legs and pick it up. Fucks up their hips and they can’t bite your arms in that position
The pitbull shit talk in here is ignorant though. Most people would call 90% of any of the mutts in the shelter system a pit if they bite and a corgi shepherd Dane greyhound mix if they don’t.
When you’re getting bit it’s not easy to react in any certain way though, it fucking hurts and dogs are 10x faster than us.
Just hope your dog bites back realistically. A sharpei bit the fuck out of my wife at the dog park and that if my dog didn’t get the dog off, no one was getting the dog off.

Chihuahuas bite the most people on average, but you don’t see them labeled as a violent or dangerous breed. Like most dog attacks, they are 99.9% survivable. Yeah the damage done by a pit bull could be a lot more than a chi chi but an attack is an attack.

My little guys never bit anyone. They’ll bark but never bite. Even if you put your hand on their face they’ll never bite. It’s all related to training and how they were brought up.

We had 4 different dogs growing up, I’ve been around dozens of dogs from family and friends, I’ve never once, not ONCE met a pitbull/staffy type dog that wasn’t a shit dog.

Aggression is obviously a common trait among these breeds, without a doubt.

I’ve never been afraid or concerned about a golden retriever, are there bad ones out there? Absolutely. But they have a demeanour common among the bread that is easy going and relaxed.

I’ve volunteered with a pitbull rescue for a bit doing the occasional transport for dogs to vets or vets to fosters. The dogs were all great, even those with some pretty shitty stories. My last dog was a pitbull shepherd and the only time he ever bit another dog was the time mentioned, which was pretty well exactly what he should have done. Current dog is a pit/husky (supposedly) and again if she was to ever bite someone she’s a pit and if she’s good she’s a husky. She’s the easiest dog in the world to deal with. Never ignores a command, can get swarmed by kids and just rolls over for scratches. Dogs have different personalities like people.

My FIL had a Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix. It was cute and looked sweet, but if you pet him the wrong way, which was easy to do, he would try to bite you. He was barely trained. He was a demon dog and I'm sure he's traumatized a few kids.

Yea, perfect breed to be around toddlers and kids, they are never the breed in the news.

According to.. dog bites.org pit bulls are by far the worst offenders for both severity and frequency…

https://www.dogsbite.org/dog-bite-statistics-quick-statistics.php

The probability of a bite resulting in a complex wound was 4.4 times higher for pit bulls compared with the other top-biting breeds ... and the odds of an off-property attack by a pit bull was 2.7 times greater.
Dog-Bite Injuries to the Craniofacial Region: An Epidemiologic and Pattern-of-Injury Review at a Level 1 Trauma Center, by Khan et al., MS J Oral Maxillofac Surg, March 2020

Parental presence was reported in 43.6% of cases ... The most commonly identified breed was the pit bull ... Pit bulls were also the most commonly identified breed involved in major injuries.
Pediatric Dog Bite Injuries in Central Texas, by Abraham et al., Journal of Pediatric Surgery, July 2019

Physical characteristics like brachycephalic head shape and weight between 66 and 100 pounds were found to have both the highest bite risk and highest average tissue damage per bite.

Dog Bite Injuries to the Face: Is There Risk with Breed Ownership? A Systematic Review with Meta-Analysis, by Essig et al., Int. J. Pediatr. Otorhinolaryngol, February 2019
Our data were consistent with others, in that an operative intervention was more than 3 times as likely to be associated with a pit bull injury than with any other breed.

https://www.statista.com/chart/15446/breeds-of-dog-involved-in-fatal-attacks-on-humans-in-the-us/?gclid=CjwKCAjwx_eiBhBGEiwA15gLN-Nrpxb55B4SK9G9MqR7v2ZVCZHEpLzBssl222iWfLQ52seV3L8H 6xoCni4QAvD_BwE

284 fatalities from pit bull attacks in a 20 year period with Roweilers coming in at second with a measly 45.

The data is the same wherever you look.

Can say whatever you want about the owner, if you’ve got young kids and have pit bull as a pet, you’re a fool. Maybe all pit bull owners are “bad” because they are dumb enough to choose this breed as a pet?

There’s no point in having a conversation with you about anything anymore. You always have the answer “oh this is my experience and it’s the only one.” Your whole existence is being mad at shit because of something you read on the internet how’s someone going to convince you otherwise.
You don’t know how the stats work. You don’t understand correlation isn’t causation. The most common dogs in the shelter system are labelled as pit bulls, whether they are or not. Not Rottweilers, or even close to that. The most common dogs in abusive situations are labelled as pitbull, whether they are or not. Of course if they are the most common dogs to be put in that situation they will be the most common serious bites. It’s all just partial information for people like you that want to make a point without proper information.
But yeah I’m endangering my kid everyday with my dog. Fuckin idiot.

Most common breed of dog causing fatalities in Canada is huskies, followed by Rottweilers, followed by unknown mixed breeds, followed by pitbulls then add labs and collies into the mix. Common factors are that they were almost always in packs, almost always outdoor dogs, and almost always in remote areas.

Well that statistic website is pulled from govt. data so I don’t know what to tell ya.

They are a shit breed, period. And people who own them are typically shitty owners, a perfect combo.

There is a difference between some mutt mixed breed and a dog who resembles a bully breed with all the typical characteristics, which are generally the dogs involved in these incidents.

I’m sure all the city wide bans on bully breeds all over North America are just a smear campaign.

You don't have a dog or a kid man. You don't know shit about either, like most things you have a strong opinion on. Same thing was the case with whatever "tough guy dog" was the chosen breed at any given time whether it was German shepherds, or dobermans, or rottis. Again, the stats in CANADA where you live even though you don't want to, says that huskies are the most common dogs involved, maybe it's because they are the most common LARGE dogs put in dangerous situations. Don't acknowledge that though and just double down on your shitty opinions like usual though.

I’d say im pretty experienced with having a dog around and generally we had two dogs overlapping at once.

In regards to your above post about Huskies, yea we also had a husky, a Siberian, and he was probably the worst dog of the 4 we had. Another breed I likely wouldn’t have around children.

Animals are animals. Unless you’re ceasar Milan, most people aren’t going to train habits out of bad dogs. Yea the single mom with the rescued pitbull is surely going to be the owner to turn this dog around lol..

Sounds like it's a guarantee so you should take that. You've even got double the odds since she's the 2 worst breeds apparently.

End of the day any dog, no matter the temperament or training can snap and bite when triggered. I'll rather get bitten by a maltese than a pitbull.

There's a reason why condo stratas ban pitbulls and home insurance either refuse or hike the premiums if your dog falls under the dangerous breeds. All data driven. Montreal or Quebec banned pitbulls as well.

The majority of dogs probably won’t bite anyone. Yea, so not a great bet lol

But the majority of severe bites, are caused by the same dogs.

08-26-2025, 09:21 AM
That’s just stating the obvious though isn’t it? Of course big dogs do all the severe biting lol…

Did you expect a different result?

It still comes down to shitty owners and shitty training. People are fucking weird with dogs sometimes, some owners treat them like family and I’ve known really nice generous caring people that regard dogs as only animals and they stay outside not allowed in the house or they do aggressive training maneuvers that make me cringe… those are the dogs I worry about that “have enough” one day and snap.

And unfortunately a lot of genuinely shitty people think it’s cool or alpha male to have a huge dog and they fuck around with them playing mental games or mean tricks or laughing / bullying the dog cuz they finally found something stupider than themselves mentally they can take advantage of and no surprise the dog is an asshole too after awhile.

Some dogs have a bad vibe too I love dogs and they tend to love me but there’s one nerdy board game couple here we go to their house and they got a husky and the dog has never bitten anyone but there’s something in that dogs vibe or eyes or general aura I just don’t trust.

I would never put my face in his face to kiss him on the head or something like I’d do with most dogs and I’m careful with my emotions around him I can literally feel him picking up on it if I get anxious around him at all, his ears get super pointy and he stares at me really intently. Kinda creeps me out.

The reality is facts and data are one thing, perception is another. Often times perceptions don't match facts whatsoever.

One can argue whether or not pitbulls are more dangerous, but people's perceptions are that they are more dangerous, you'll have a tough time changing that.

That's one of the reasons I've never been interested in owning a pitbull, being covered in tattoos and walking around with one isn't exactly inviting to people. I'd prefer owning a dog that makes people comfortable, a dog that people wouldn't feel afraid to interact with in public.

Hondaracer
08-26-2025, 09:35 AM
Yea 100% that’s also part of it

Like whenever I see someone walking a pit bull I generally think A) are you naive, B) are you doing this for some sort of reason for appearances etc. or C) are you the type thinking you’re the one to save this dog

If I see someone walking a lab or virtually any other dog (outside of maybe a Chiuahaha or some shit, you’ve got your own problems then :lol) I never have those thoughts cross my mind once even if the dog is jumping around and acting erraticly, because generally, I know the temperament of these dogs are not one of aggression

I have never sought out any one breed of dog. I just go to the shelter and meet a nice one and take it home when I can. Odds just dictate that it’s going to be a pit mix because the intact dogs wandering around the res are mostly pits, shepherds, rottis and huskies.

Speaking of dogs or pets, here is a wild story about former basketball player Shaquille O'Neal meeting Tyson and his white tiger back in the day.

Iron Mike's larger than life personality and great physical strength was needed to keep that tiger on its best behaviour. I remember the first Hangover movie with Tyson and his white tiger. Tyson definitely likes his wild cats: :lawl:

https://www.complex.com/sports/a/backwoodsaltar/shaq-mike-tyson-white-tiger

Shaq recalled how he met Tyson for the first time while he was serving time in prison in the early '90s. When he was released on parole in 1995, he invited Shaq to visit his home before his first comeback fight. "Before his fight, he says, 'Hey, come to the house,'" said Shaq. "So, we come to his house, ring the bell. Ding-dong. I hear a, 'Come in!' So, I open the door, right? There's nobody in the lobby... I start walking, [and] a fucking tiger comes running down the stairs."

Around this time, Tyson owned a white tiger named Kenya that he was often photographed with. "I'm turning around, trying to get to the thing, and then Mike came and he start wrestling the tiger," he continued. "I told my boy, 'I'm not a gambling man, but I wish I had a million dollars to put on the fight. I just seen this man stop a fully grown tiger.'"

Shaq asked Tyson if he remembered the incident, and he confirmed and admitted that he would often sleep in the same bed as his tiger. "You gotta be with them everyday," said Tyson. "I'm getting ready to get a cheetah, but I'm not going to let my wife know." He added that he had Kenya pretty much from the moment they were born.

Asked if he was big spoon or little spoon when he would sleep in the same bed as his tiger, Tyson said, "Well, at one time I held them and as they got older, they held me." He said he never got bitten by his tiger, but when he owned a lion, he was bitten. Tyson also shared that he bought the house next to his so his other wild cats could live there. "My tiger didn't like them in the house," he laughed. "So, I let them have their house and let the tiger stay with me."
