Yes to the above and you can investigate/research which non-profits are better at more of the dollar going to actual cause/recipients vs. admin fee/salary. We all know that Cancer (as good of a cause as it is) ... fundraising for cancer is a business.

I will say I think giving is good but nothing quite beats getting personally involved somehow through volunteerism. The reward and meaningfulness comes when you interact with people and see how your itty bitty part ($ or labour) has impacted someone personally.

I don't know about the ones you guys are talking about, but a lot of legit charities use donation funds to pay employees. Not every place can just be run by volunteers - they need actual employees and professionals, and those people need to be paid a fair salary like any job.

^ yes for sure, you need good people to run non-profits. But there is a general % that deems a non-profit as 'efficient' and effective, somewhere in the range of 10-20% to admin/salary. Because they are non-profits, they must disclose their financials and it is somewhat easy to access. I mean you don't want to donate to an organization that take 50 cents (50%) on the dollar that you intend to give ... that is not really efficient.

All good smart prudent philanthropists will ask, 'What is your organization's admin/salary %?'

Take a pic of your exterior faucet? I think if the handle is angled, then it is not freeze proof. But if the handle is perpendicular to the ground, then it’s freeze proof (because it turns a shaft that runs deeper inside your house to open/close the flow of water).

Get the cold plastic ones and not the cheap styrofoam ones. I've had mine for over 6 years and no deterioration whatsoever. Foam ones last one maybe two years.

The jury is out as to its effectiveness, but it doesn't get too cold around where I live. Wind chill, but the cover is there to protect it from the wind. Make sure it is snug as a bug in a rug. If the foam insulation is worn out on the contact surface, just add a new one. You can even fill the inside with more insulation.

It's possible that a shut off was never put in. The anti siphon valve as shown in the picture is a good sign that it's a frost free hose bib. Even with the frost free hose bib, I've had multiple bibs fail last year and the year prior, so if you have a shut off, use it.

I'm speaking anecdotally, but I have friends who have previously, and are currently in med school and haven't been able to get jobs, or had a difficult time. Not due to marks, but due to picking specialties that no one is retiring from, or that they don't care about budgeting to hire. Specifically orthopaedic surgeons and plastic surgeons. Also, it took my wife 7 months to get hired as a nurse when we moved here, because even though they don't have enough nurses, they wouldn't hire any because it's not in "the budget," which is cute because once she was in there is essentially unlimited overtime, which is obviously not great for a budget.
The medical system in this country is unravelling and so much of it is due to inefficiencies.

When my dog turned 15 in 2021... she was diagnosed with a cancerous sarcoma on her leg... 3 different vets including Boundary Bay told me to amputate her leg, said the cancer would spread to her lungs, etc... or they suggested I go to Calgary for radiation treatments that were going to be $50,000+ nevermind living in Calgary for 2 weeks or so... I couldn't cut the cancer off because there's not enough skin on the leg to close the wound... I spent a lot of time reading up on sarcomas and how they're not very likely to spread and decided to just let her be since she was 15... they told me 6-9 months max to live.

Well, it's been 1.5 years now, she turned 16 in June this year... and will be 16.5 soon... the sarcoma hasn't really gotten any bigger and she's happy as can be, doesn't even notice it. I just put on a sock on her leg to cover up the bump so she doesn't lick at it or bite it. I know one way or another her time is short, but I'm sure glad I didn't follow any of their massively expensive recommendations without any questions. She uses both her front legs so much just digging and playing and she can still see perfectly, just a bit deaf... so she's acting like she might make it to 17 or even 18 who knows. If I had amputated her leg like they all wanted, I think she would have fallen into a depression and died for sure.

I also started giving her dog friendly CBD oil recently because I know of at least 1 other person who has a large dog with a leg sarcoma that has been living with it for 3 years and the sarcoma all but disappeared with CBD oil... I am hoping the same will happen for her too.

When my dog turned 15 in 2021... she was diagnosed with a cancerous sarcoma on her leg... 3 different vets including Boundary Bay told me to amputate her leg, said the cancer would spread to her lungs, etc... or they suggested I go to Calgary for radiation treatments that were going to be $50,000+ nevermind living in Calgary for 2 weeks or so... I couldn't cut the cancer off because there's not enough skin on the leg to close the wound... I spent a lot of time reading up on sarcomas and how they're not very likely to spread and decided to just let her be since she was 15... they told me 6-9 months max to live.

Well, it's been 1.5 years now, she turned 16 in June this year... and will be 16.5 soon... the sarcoma hasn't really gotten any bigger and she's happy as can be, doesn't even notice it. I just put on a sock on her leg to cover up the bump so she doesn't lick at it or bite it. I know one way or another her time is short, but I'm sure glad I didn't follow any of their massively expensive recommendations without any questions. She uses both her front legs so much just digging and playing and she can still see perfectly, just a bit deaf... so she's acting like she might make it to 17 or even 18 who knows. If I had amputated her leg like they all wanted, I think she would have fallen into a depression and died for sure.

I also started giving her dog friendly CBD oil recently because I know of at least 1 other person who has a large dog with a leg sarcoma that has been living with it for 3 years and the sarcoma all but disappeared with CBD oil... I am hoping the same will happen for her too.

Hell if i were you, id try anything and everything to see what works. As long as its not too invasive and she can continue to have a good standard of living.

The province says British Columbians will get a one-time cost of living credit on their BC Hydro bill this fall, as well as a new BC Affordability Credit in January, to help offset some expenses.

“People and small businesses across B.C. are feeling the squeeze of global inflation,” Eby said Friday, the same day he was sworn in as the province’s 37th premier. “It’s a time when people need their government to continue to be there for them. That’s why we’re focused on helping people most impacted by the rising costs we’re seeing around the world – giving people a bit of extra credit, especially at a time of year when expenses can be quick to add up.

The BC Hydro credit will be available to all eligible residential and commercial customers, including those who get their power indirectly from the provider through FortisBC or a municipal utility.

The Ministry of Energy says eligible people will receive a $100 credit, while eligible businesses will receive a credit averaging $500.

The BC Affordability Credit will be distributed through the CRA, with the province saying a family of four could receive up to an additional $410 in January. The amounts are dependent on a family or person’s annual salary.

“Look for B.C.’s new Affordability Credit in your bank account in January 2023,” said Eby. “We know it won’t cover all the bills, but we hope the little bit extra helps folks out this winter.”

Dear MG1,

To say it wasn’t a good week for factory fish farm operators on the west coast would be an understatement. A lot happened in a short time and here’s a recap of the unprecedented events.

Last week, Washington State Commissioner of Public Lands, Hilary Franz, made a historic announcement, banning open net-pen salmon farms from Washington’s waters forever. This announcement came after Swinomish tribal leaders told the Washington Department of Natural Resources that fish farms were impacting wild fish and one of their sacred sites.

B.C. is now the last jurisdiction on the west coast of North America to harbour factory fish farms.

And in B.C., the shíshálh Nation on the lower Sunshine Coast also announced last week they are clearing Grieg Seafood’s fish feedlots from their territory. This will be the third area in B.C. where farms are being removed because of the will of local First Nations (the other two areas being the Discovery Islands and Broughton Archipelago).

While First Nations are taking a stand against Atlantic salmon farms, the feds are back-sliding on their promise to transition from open net-pen farms by 2025. Their so-called transition plan is being watered-down to simply reduce ‘interactions’ between farmed and wild fish— a plan that will continue to cause harm to wild fish.

There were also several important stories shared this week about piscine orthoreovirus (PRV), a virus spread by factory fish farms that can infect wild salmon and cause their blood cells to explode. A Globe and Mail article reported on DFO’s suppression of science around the impact of PRV on wild salmon. Additionally, findings from a University of B.C. study on PRV were released. Researchers report that 70% of samples taken near 56 fish farms in B.C. and the U.S. tested positive for the virus. A shout-out to our allies Alexandra Morton, Bob Chamberlin, Wild First, Clayoquot Action and others for their work in bringing this news to light.

Our federal government can’t continue to ignore the impacts of factory fish farms on wild salmon. Keeping the pressure on them over the next several months will be critical before the government releases their transition plan. There’s only one solution that will protect wild salmon from fish farm viruses and parasites, and that is to get them off the B.C. coast.

They work amazing.

I use them in rental cars, especially in foreign countries. Always kinda worried I park somewhere I’m not suppose to and get towed. Then wtf do you do when you don’t know who towed it, you don’t speak the language, etc.

When I travel I keep one in my checked bag one in a day bag, usually take the day bag one out and toss it in the spare tire compartment etc. if your kid is the one driving around and they have a phone, you’ll be able to get real time updates, they rely on Bluetooth to send the signal out so anyone in or around the car with a Bluetooth phone will make the AirTag ping.

If your kid has an iPhone though it will pop up saying “there is an AirTag that’s not yours following you”

Been using Apple Music for about 4 years now, it’s kind of the same story with all of the apple ecosystem that now I’m so locked into it I doubt I can ever change

With that said I’ve never not found a song and almost all their Audio is lossless now so k don’t really see another service being better for me. I also have it bundled with the iCloud backup and we use the family account so it’s a pretty good value

I gave a couple of those home pod minis away as gifts and while I don’t think the sound quality is quite as good as Sonos, they work infinitely easier and more streamlined with apple products than Sonos ever will

Has anyone ever come across a situation where you order something from Amazon and to find the package doesn't have the original factory shrink wrap and the product is missing inside?

For context, I ordered a pair of the Microsoft Surface Earbuds on Amazon.com during Cyber Monday while I was in the US. The shipment arrives, I open it up to find that the original shrink wrap was not present and the entire case and earbuds were missing.

I filed this to Amazon and went through the questions and got a return authorization with no option for them to replace it other than a refund. Curious to see how this panned out for those of you who has dealt with this before. Thanks in advance.
