I have a barely used closet that I want to repurpose to store two sets of tires in.

I currently have a set of four on the ground, but looking to build a simple heavy duty shelf that can support the other set. I would have to stack these vertically, but there is enough space.

Anyone have any ideas on the best way to do this? I was thinking of just installing some wall brackets to the studs and then going to Home Depot and having a piece of MDF or plywood cut to size.

I checked the studs and marked them in the image as yellow squares. I can use up to four brackets. The blue is where I would want the shelf and then the red are the tires.

The brackets are rated for 1000lbs but what is everything else involved rated for? ie the screws, studs, plywood, etc. Personally I'd use all 4 brackets, or make a ledge out of 2x4s that the shelf sits on. You're talking about probably 200lbs centered pretty far from the back wall so there's quite a bit of torque involved.

They go on sale once in a while. I bought two when they were on clearance (overstock and out of season).

I use them in the garage. I strap the tires down with ratcheting straps so going over bumps is not an issue. Princess Auto carries a cheaper version, but I find it quite unstable.


Being on wheels, the tires can be moved in and around.

Would warping still be a concern if the studs are about 13.5" between? With the weight resting on the brackets, wouldn't it be in worst case warping towards the brackets? Old house, so not sure if that's the reason the studs are narrower.

I installed two brackets today and they seemed secure since I pressed down on each one individually with bodyweight. I used 12 x 1 1/2 screws to secure them to the studs.

I took three images. One with just the brackets. And then another two with tires on to have a clearer view on how they would be rested on top of the board.

I don't have the board mounted yet as I need to recut it to fit. It's a solid spruce board that is 3/4 inches thick that I picked up from Home Depot.

EDIT: Home Depot told me to use 1 1/2" screws to anchor the brackets. Might switch them to 2 1/2" screws for more support.

I think if you just screwed 2x4's to the studs around the closet in the "U" shape, and then used 3/4" plywood (or even better 2x1/2" pieces) as your shelf on top you could do without the shelf brackets entirely. It would be plenty strong.

Plus you'd get extra clearance underneath without the diagonal cross brace of the bracket.

For screws I'd use 4" #10's at minimum (I'd probably use GRK's for extra piece of mind)

Definitely get longer screws though, after the drywall and bracket you've only got 3/4"-1" into the wood.

Not sure how they evaluate direct-to-stream movies but box office movies definitely count on China and world-wide revenue (of which China is likely the biggest %).

Maybe I am just a realist and not an idealist, but when I hear "representation matters", I do not interpret that at all to be mattering in a sense of societal benefit or impact, or being seen as 'woke'.

I interpret that as representation now matters for businesses to maximize revenue, because people of certain underrepresented groups are now willing to support/not support certain things with their wallets now.

Back in our parents generation, representation did not matter, because our parents did not give a shit if they saw themselves represented on media, they were too busy working and hustling. Representation was the last thing on their mind.

Nowadays people expect more, and are willing to pay or not pay for it. I do not criticize businesses at all if they are reacting to changing consumer demands.

Big Hollywood movies are essentially banned in China right now; there's practically no box office revenue from there anymore. Some movies get through by only showing China in an ultra positive (not even neutral) way, like Minions 2 recently. They let through just enough movies to make sure their overall revenue is higher than in the US. It's still like 80-90% domestic movies now, compared to 60% before covid.

It has had a positive effect on most of the movies themselves. Top Gun is probably the best recent example of this. Expect Disney movies to cater less to this market, and Universal to cater more.

Any company that is not the city, don't bother paying it... they will eventually send it to collections and send you threatening letters... but when they start calling all you have to do is say "I'm sorry that person no longer lives here, please stop calling" and they're required by law to cease and desist.

They can not affect your insurance or credit rating, anything they say otherwise is complete nonsense and scare tactics.

EasyPark is a City-owned, non-profit company that manages parking lots that are owned and leased by the City of Vancouver.

Which is kinda vague. The ticket apparently jumped to $63 today, it'll be $83 next week and $108 the week after that which is pretty ridiculous. It's my moms vehicle so I don't want to mess up her insurance renewal but when I look up the violation on their site it lists another unpaid one from 7 years ago. So I guess that answers that question lol.

If it was reasonable like the City tickets are (maybe were, I haven't had one in a while) here I wouldn't mind paying it. But this is just crazy.

Stanley Park enforcement is harsh, they are very active especially around the aquarium and Lumberman's Arch (they basically just walk back and forth all day and nail people) - I was ticketed for being 1 min over AND while I was buying a new ticket. My receipt showed I bought my ticket just as they printed out their ticket so they were able to write it off.

Probably has something to do with the fact that:

A) You don't have the potential to crash and injure/kill someone by failing to pay for parking.

B) Parking companies are scumbags. I've been given parking tickets when I've legitimately paid (obviously whatever system they used was messed up) and then have been given attitude when I've disputed like the problem was somehow MY fault.

Here in Saanich there's a public soccer/baseball park (Layritz park) next to the parking lot for the VI Tech Park building. The parking lot goes free at 5:30pm, but it's usually completely deserted from tech park employees before 5:00. When you see the parking company cruise the lot and ticketing people taking their kids to soccer/baseball practice at 5:15pm, you can't help but think "Fucking scumbag vultures, fuck that company".

Where I live the cops catching speeders go out of their way to avoid targeting certain kinds of drivers because of a lot of things at play. The speeding gods have abandoned us.

The state of Texas has a convoluted string of bullshit in order to register and title a vehicle. This has led to the rise of a "paper plate" epidemic (https://www.khou.com/article/news/crime/fake-paper-license-plates-texas/285-60f278a8-327d-4ecf-b38d-02785b6105fc) where folks will perpetually ride around on temporary license plates which are harder to track and scan.

This goes double when the vehicle is stolen. You just pop off the plate and put on a paper tag and boom, there you go. You're "riding dirty" as we said in olden times, but because there are so many of them it makes it hard to point to a car and say "That one is legit" and "That one isn't". Criminals gonna criminal.
Building on that, because Nissan extends credit to anyone with a pulse, and the repo business isn't super effective, you get folks who "buy" a car with a down payment, drive it off the lot, and keep it without making subsequent payments.

The rise in the right is a mix of internet propaganda (the right excels in this, and has for eternity here), and people's angst with late-stage capitalism.

We've commodified the world to every degree nowadays, people are tired of it. The move to globalism has realistically lessened the proverbial "slice of pie" for everyone, and as such rightwing nativism has bolstered as a result.

The irony of it all is that this expected and understandable anger is being targeted at the wrong people, and predictably the orchestrators of this very problem are using it to entice voters to vote for them.

And before you say that I fall into "that group", I have received 3 vaccinations in total and often wear a mask in public when indoors. I find that wearing a mask does not inconvenience me. I'm a healthy individual (haven't been to the doctor in ages) and I get flu-shots annually. I have yet to catch COVID-19 (knock on wood).

I find that most mask/booster requirements are now optional/recommended.

I could never willingly move to Alberta, I'd have to be pretty desperate. Even at the west edge of Calgary I'd have twice as long of a drive to a ski hill with worse snow conditions, a much longer drive to any sort of outdoor activities, zero interesting roads to drive on, worse weather, and no family. One thing I’ve learned over the years is, never buy no-name electronics. So many things can go wrong with electronics. Buy from a reputable manufacturer, ‘cause they stand behind their products. I’m sure there are exceptions, but I would rather go without than throw my money at some fly by night company. Also, for big purchases, the place I buy the item from is a place where you can get great, honest help. Car audio, for example, I get stuff from local businesses, like Soundsgood (I have no affiliation plus they happen to be Revscene sponsors). For TVs and home sound systems, I get stuff from Sunny Electronics. Honest people and very competitive pricing on name brand electronics.

Bought it because it was confirmed to have a Samsung brand panel inside and not a random "no name" panel manufacturer. Samsung quality panel at a fraction of the cost of a Samsung branded product.

I used to have access to all kinds of graphic arts equipment. Retired and left it all behind. Used sublimation, vinyl, large format printers, etc. Heat presses, mug presses, etc. Even direct to fabric. I miss doing that stuff, so instead of spending tens of thousands on equipment, I decided to get a Cricut. Nowhere near the flexibility of a Graphtec or a Roland, but on a budget, the Cricut seems to be a good fit. I was wAndering if any RS members have experience with a Cricut. I just received my Cricut Maker 3 and finished setting it up. I'm not a crafty person, but have a feeling I'm going to be one with this machine. I can make decals for the car, do wall decorations and a whole bunch of other stuff. Fabric, maybe not, lol. It says even wood and thin foil, like WTF? Anyway...........

Sublimation was my favourite, but I would have to invest in a printer that can use sublimation (Sawgrass) ink. Nothing like making mugs and stuff with images.

My friend decorates cakes with her cricut, supposedly they discontinued their cake decorating line tho? But she had made pretty cool looking cakes

lol yeah the cricut would cut up fondant/chocolate into cool shapes etc and she'd use it to decorate or combine to build 3D decorative pieces

Yes you can make decals for your car. Don't have to buy cricut specific vinyl either.

Canon Ecojet printers will accept sublimation ink, but you'd have to use ONLY sublimation ink in it. Otherwise you'd have to get a SG500 or something which is purpose-built for sublimation.

Proscan and RCA as companies don't exist any more. Proscan was the premium brand owned by RCA. The names like many other companies that are no more are owned by marketing companies. They sell the rights to the name to other companies/manufactures.

Anyone buying a TV should spend 5 minutes at https://www.rtings.com/ . They do a ton of testing on TV's.

i bought my samsung qn85 based on some of the reviews on that site, but it seems like outside of rtings a lot of people really hate samsung. maybe it's the reliability which is not discussed on rtings. my last samsung lived for 11 years and i rarely even turned it off lol

Yup. I have lots of leftovers, end of the roll material, etc. I can’t afford full rolls from places like Joto Paper or Grimco. With the Cricut, I have to use their self adhesive mat to use scraps and non-Cricut material. With the Graphtec I used to work with, you could set the starting point anywhere on the vinyl piece, as long as the material fit between the adjustable rollers.

The awesome thing about the Cricut accessories and materials, is that they go on sale at Michael’s, periodically. Tomorrow is the start of their 40% off Cricut accessories (mats, material, and tools) sale.

Just looked up sublimation capable inkjet printers. Technology improvements - damn. I guess with all the EcoTank printers on the market, all it took was for them to come up with the idea of filling up bottles with sublimation ink. None of this specialized cartridges for specialized printers. The Epson EcoTank ET-2760. Damn. Rated very high and affordable.

And the ink is not expensive.
